For anyone watching this in 2022 after prey was released. The pistol given to Danny glover at 17:14 is the same pistol that the main girl from prey gets from the French trappers. Really cool how they did that
Now I'm wondering how exactly that predator managed to get it. Maybe fought against the girl and took it off her after he won? I'm really intrigued.
@@lootrat6988 in Prey the main predator was dropped off from his ship which proceeded to still move away while he was off it. I'm guessing the one from this movie was piloting it so when he had found out his partner had died he came back and destroyed the village maybe.
I just watched Prey the other day, and at first I didn't understand it, because I've only seen the first Predator film, but after watching this, my mind is absolutely blown
I liked Prey but I don't really like how they tied that back in sicne the pistol already had a comic tied to it that fleshed out Greyback (the predator that gives him the pistol).

One thing I'll give this movie, it does kinda shed more light on the Predator's honor system. Gender and age mean nothing, only that the hunted are able to defend themselves. One of the more interesting examples is with the lady cop, a scene that kinda confused my sister-in-law when she saw it for the first time. The woman herself was worthy prey, but as soon as he realizes that she's pregnant, he has to let her go because the baby she's carrying is defenseless. Their honor system is one of the things I like about the Predators, as it really elevates them above just being a mindless killing machine.
Also it shows that when the predator is killed, the others reward Harrigan with a trophy instead of killing him.
The expansion of Predator lore is one of the few good things about Predator 2.
I liked the expansion of Predator hunting/combat techniques such as the usage of new or unused weapons like the combi stick.
Other than that Predator 2 is a bad but enjoyable film.
@@AAJillSandwich Yeah, Predator 2 has it's flaws, but it really does an excellent job expanding Predator/Yautja lore, and showing just how well-equipped and well-trained these beings really are. And on a side note, the Combi Stick is my personal favorite Yautja/Predator weapon of all time. The idea of a double-sided, extendable/collapsible spear that you wield like a quarterstaff is absolutely badass, and, as we learn in the Alien Vs. Predator lore (films, comics, games, etc.) the material it's made from is actually highly resistant to the acid blood of the Xenomorphs.

The Yautja (Predators) follow a strict code of honor. You can probably find it on Xenopedia, but they are super honorable. It makes up for the people they kill. They are awesome aliens.

Lance wasn't killed by a Xeno. Tes he was torn in half by tye Queen, but in Alien 3, Ripley brought him back online, to find out if there was an alien on board. He tells her, then asks her to unplug him.
One fun movie monster to add to the list in there though, Lance Henrikson was killed by Pinhead in Hellraiser: Hellworld, It was a terrible cgi kill in a terrible straight-to-video horror, but it is something to add to the list of popular horror movie villains.

Predators is definitely an underrated sequel. Predator 2 is a piece of trash.

I don't think Predator 2 is awful. It's an underappreciated rough gem. Great forboding city hellscape. Some of it is brutal! We just expected Arnie but he didn't agree to do it.
I like that it's so different to the first film where instead of a tense jungle environment you got a city filled with violence which is a perfect place for a Predator to hunt and learning more about the honor system it just has an identity to its own and that's what I appreciate the most.
Arnold was going to appear, but he was occupied with Terminator 2.

Which I would love to see on Dead Meat, as it's honestly a very surprisingly pleasant film.
How you know you made it to the big time: A predator deems you worthy, and provides you with a parting gift, and or a marking.
The marking was a very big deal in AvP lore. The guys making the movie didn't realize this (I watched the director's commentary, they had everything backwards), but the Yautja sent to hunt the xenomorphs? Those are the trainees. Getting that mark is a statement "I am an adult, I am a hunter, I am dangerous" . Getting that mark means quite a bit, though the movie really dulled the impact. In the book, she got her mark from a legendary hunter who killed an alien basically barehanded, and it was enough to get her a spot in their society
Cool story about the pistol Danny Glover received: In a comic, it was revealed that it belonged to a pirate who proved his worth and ended up fighting his mutinous crew side by side with a Predator. He died, but that Predator took the pistol for his collection, eventually giving it to Danny because his actions were reminiscent of the pirate.

Whether it's a great sequel or not, it gave us some more iconic weapons for Predator, and Predator is the most badass he's ever been.

Honestly, Predator 2 is freaking fantastic.
It's exactly what it's supposed to be, a sequel to Predator that changes the setting from 80's Military Action Movie to 80's Cop Action Movie. It plays by the rules of the original (heat wave, only killing armed victims, Predator healing) while expanding on both the humans of this world (Gary Busey and Gang) and the Predators themselves.
Brilliant sequel; sure, it's not on par with Aliens and Terminator 2, but it stands head and shoulders above what most sequels can ever aspire to.
I totally get that her reaction to an alien crashing into/through her apartment was completely unnatural, but that woman’s “I don’t think he gives a shit!” was hilarious to me.
A very underrated sequel. But also a pretty good sequel.

For once I feel like they should’ve made one sequel where the predator doesn’t die and has a successful hunt
People need to understand: the first Predator was sold as a cornball 80's action flick with an alien killer, Predator 2 was a hardboiled cop movie with an alien killer. Tonally, they're very different films. Glover wasn't Arnie, he wasn't supposed to be. But I think that lends strength to this film in the same way that Dutch and his oozing machismo lent strength to the first. It doesn't make it an inferior film: it makes it a different one.
The cool thing is Arnold was the buff macho man, but he needed traps to deal with the Jungle Hunter. Danny who is, apparently not so impressive, killed it in melee combat with his own blade.
@@JohnPerry27 exactly, people expected Arnie to just machismo his way through the movie Contra style and get the girl in the end then put his feet up over Preds corpse and drag a cigar, because that would be the cliché. But when Pred started hunting down the team in brutal fashion and made Arnie use brain over brawns, thats when Predator became different from the rest of the 80s action flicks, its much closer to a horror movie than people think.
A film being different does not mean it can't be bad...

Those who kill predators in honorable combat are regarded highly and spared. Plus a lot of other stuff, like if you’re caught takin credit for kills you’re exiled or killed. This one is actually my favorite in the saga, sure it has flaws that can’t be denied, but it’s got a very unique style I just love.
Predator 2 is one of the best movies of the extremely niche “sequels that aren’t as good as the original but bring in enough new ideas so they aren’t boring” genre
There’s a comic book that explains how the predator got the flintlock pistol. It’s been a while since I saw the comic but I believe the guy who owned it was a pirate. Ties it all together nicely.

In the last pages the pirate was betrayed by his crew, but the Predator, who planned to kill the pirate himself, fought alongside him, killed his crew then they fought and he killed the pirate, who handed him the pistol before dying.

The whole deal with predator not killing liona is that the predator community follows a strict code: if someone has a disease, a child or are helpless (being on the toilet or naked) if these rules aren’t followed they will be a disappointment to the predator race. If they are close to death they will set off a bomb to not let anyone else get their hands on the technology they possess. However, if they fail to do this they will be a disappointment to the predator race. They will have to get the tech back at all costs even if it means they lose their life

This movie's biggest strength is the Predator himself. They don't try to hide him anymore. He's bumped up to slasher killer status with prominent screen time and a variety of kill methods. Props to Stephen Hopkins on this front, having just come off Nightmare on Elm Street 5.

It was a perfect movie as a sequel,some mystery for Harrigan,but not so much it becomes unbelievable to the audience,more weapons,which in the comics was only given to the best hunters,great choices when to use the thermal camera for when he's watching his different challenges,seeing the predator ship,am i missing anything?

I love that the predator movies eventually mingled with the aliens movies because now lore has to explain how bill paxton is in both aliens and predator movies at extremely different timelines.
Actually it's possible to have a bit of fun with that to create a theory. Leona's child could have been from Jerry, the timeline as it's displayed would make it too quick to develop but we're never really given a clear indication of how much time passes throughout the entire movie so if it turns out it takes place over the course of months it's entirely possible, since the child hasn't developed enough to give Leona a baby bump yet. This would mean that Jerry's genes would pass on to further generations, which could in the future result in Hudson being Jerry's great great great great great great great great great grandson.
The Part of the kid runin into the "Predator" and asking *Want some candy* and the predator ignoring him is pretty ironic lol

Yeah, but because of how elements are defined (by the distribution of electrons in the outer orbitals) it’s unbelieveably unlikely that any new element would be the sort of thing you could build anything out of. Pretty much every element past 100 has only been produced in labs, and the samples literally decayed within milliseconds
Yeah but its not a commonly used element. It would actually be more likely that whatever material he used is something pretty accessible on our planet, even if they were mined from another galaxy its safe to assume they have similar or the exact same elements making up their home planet. Right?

I have fond memories of this movie from childhood. I love Danny Glover and his team. I think one of the parts that sticks with me is where the Scorpion does ALL the coke and then says "The Scorpion...is ready", and it's almost like the predator understands and chooses that moment to attack

The movie must have been given a cinematography award you got to admit most of the shots in the movie are award-worthy when the movie was made in 1990 with the one where he's walking through the puddle of water to kill King Willie and when he's climbing up the side of the building I haven't seen the movie myself but still definitely some of the scenes were award-worthy from what I see
Predator 2 is definetly not a bad movie, the first one just set the bar too high

Actually I'm not sure Bill Paxton gets killed by the Terminator. He is shoved out of the way and rips the other guys heart. It's not clear.
