Had a tough week at work, just got home, made a brew and sit at my desk and see this. EPIC START TO THE WEEKEND!
You need a smart tv, they have youtube. Its nice to watch these videos on a big screen.
These car needs so much love. Can't wait to see it cleaned up and running.
At last someone is saving British classics. Your channel really is a breath of fresh air. A cracking little Midget in brg.
I love the MG Midget. I did some skid pan training in one years ago. Great fun.👍
This little car has always been my favourite car from as long as I can remember.
do it up ,nothing is to far gone for you, great videos and a genuine honest guy.
Now you talking Rob, had 3 of these over the years. Looking forward to seeing you inspect it and hope it’s worth saving. They certainly are quirky to look after. Very tight under the bonnet and they have a boxed in transmission tunnel which makes engaging the prop shaft splines in the gearbox end a little tricky to say the least. Chris is right such fun to drive with the most direct gear box action and steering I’ve ever come across.
I’ll give you a thumbs up for rescuing a Midget, it’s not looking too bad mine came home in two separate journeys so count yourselves lucky
I have got the biggest smile on my face that I have had for long, long time.
Thank you so much for getting a hold of this for the channel Rob.
Bootneck 👌👍
Had a 1275 Midget back in the 70s. Cracking car but a money pit. Corrosion, front suspension wishbones and kingpins used to wear out quickly, but what a bucket of fun! Looking forward to the videos, don't keep us waiting too long!! Cheers.
Looks like a great project, can't wait to see the updates!
This Midget is a *Pure Beauty* Begging to be Restored, Miles of Smiles Await's.
Great find Rob.... enjoying the content as ever! 👍✔👍
I had an original black 1275cc MG Midget 1973-4. Loved it, only sold it because I went abroad to work. Midget owners always flashed their headlights to each other on the road. So much fun owning it. Good luck with this one, it'll be fine...
Been watching your channel now for 3 months and it's become one of my favorites keep up the fantastic work
ian tredgold thank you really appreciate your comment 👍
I can't beleive people leave a lovely car like that. Nice to know that someone is trying to save it. There is nothing like driving a convertible on a warm summer day! Will enjoy this!
What an absolute beauty, from an era when the brits made solid cars.Wish it was mine , well worth a total nut & bolt restoration. Totally original.
Great to see another one saved. I have just rescued a 1974 Midget. I will be following along with your progress.
It makes me upset that person to put it nicely, can treat such a wonderful car like that . That was once a lovely MG
Agree
Saving British classics one at a time 👍🏼 You’re so lucky the brakes weren’t frozen solid 🤞🏼well done lads 🤘🏼😎
Just got started on an MG B myself, save this dusty beauty otherwise we will only see grey slick modern cars on the road. Every classic automatically puts a smile on your face. Love them and keep them running 💪🏻
Cant wait to see it washed ,29 years of grime .should have been covered !!!! Great content guys !!see you on the next one!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
love the video as a 1965 Austin Healey Sprite owner great to see people getting MG Midgets back on the road
What a great little project......thank you so much for taking the time out to to show us all what we wanted to see!
I’m sure the paintwork has been preserved with all that layer as a protection....and I bet it will run with very little tinkering!
It would be great to see the mg back on the road a bit of British motor heritage
Seen the second part for the mg doing a good job it could do with a wash think that will make it look a lot better
It's definitely worth saving Rob! I'm currently rebuilding a 1970 Midget that had been in a barn for 15 years!
Your dedication to this channel is unlike anyone else on CZcams
J thank you 👍
Thanks Rob and Chris, like others I have had a Midget (Ooo Err!) and a couple of Roadsters (Last Roadster was taken on an excursion to Russia where my co driver drove it into a 34 year old Maserati) Thanks for constantly furnishing us with memories of our past fleet!!
Cant believe the owner wouldnt put the roof on or a car cover.
It's a rough diamond waiting to be cut and polished to bring it back to its natural beauty! Great content looking forward to the washed MG !
That would make a brilliant nut and bolt restoration, thanks for the great videos perfect for a wet and windy weekend.
Love these cars Rob can not wait to see it all cleaned up and hopefully not to rotten underneath, although most repair panels are available , it deserves to be put back on the road if possible , keep up the good vids really appreciate them .
My MG midget was 1966 model. I bought it new when I was a student at South Shields at Marine college. I bought it without paying taxes for export since I was not a UK citizen, with a view to sell it after 1 year. I paid 365 pounds for this car. It was my pride and joy and was a great hit with the girls at Westoe Towers. I emigrated to Canada where I now live. My first car in Canada was MGB-GT. I love these cars and sometime see them in Canada. My car was also British racing green.
Rob, I only began watching your videos this year, coming across them by chance. I've looked at some of your back catalogue too. I've realised that what makes me enjoy them so much is your enthusiasm for what you do. It doesn't matter if it's a car that only makes you a couple of hundred, or a high end big earner. You love it and it makes me wish that I had your job!
As an aside, this little MG will, I'm sure, be a lot of fun, but could be hiding some horrors. A friend had one almost 30 years ago as a second car and only sold it on when they had children. He was a keen car addict and kept it in good order. However, once he sold it, it became a restoration project in one of the car magazines at the time, something like Classic Motor or similar. Anyway, when they stripped down the paintwork to repair some rust they found that new panels had just been bodge welded directly over the rotten ones beneath!
Whatever you do to it, or have to spend, someone will want it, knowing your level of finish and pride in your work. I just looked on Autotrader and was surprised at how cheap you can buy one! A 1965 model with leather interior for £8k! Some go for over 20K and some as little as £4.5k, which was a surprise!
Paul Bradford it’s not ours and will need to go back to the owner but yes I had a look they are very reasonably priced
Can't wait for this beauty to be cleaned up and running, i bet it cleans up well after the wash you will be surprised i think. Looking forward to this cheers guys.
Nothing is too far gone, it is just how much work/time/money you are prepared to throw at it. Good Luck. I love midgets. (the cars.....)
looking forward to watching the journey of the mg 👍👍
I’m looking forward to seeing this one run and drive!
Can't wait to see this up and running. Great little motor, really hope it's worth saving. Look forward to the next video 👍
I've got the same 1965. Drove it to southern Spain last year for a better life. No need for the roof, and no salt on the road.
Glad you have got the chance to get it running.
Looking forward to seeing it washed.
Wanted to say thank you for the tip about using q-tips as 'paint brushes' for patching in stone chips - tried it yesterday and it worked an absolute treat!
andrew smith your more than welcome 👌👍
Looking forward to this, can't believe the chap never had a cover over it, top vid ad always rob👌👌👌👌
Brilliant I was 21 year's old in 1991 takes me back😀
Stick with it. Will make a great series. I knew someone who had an mg b in worse condition than that and now it's immaculate so don't give up on it. Full restoration is what that classic deserves.
N W we are only getting it running and cleaned and it’s going back 👍
My very first car.....a 1965 Mk2 MG Midget........I'm so jealous it really looks like a really good "Barn Find"
I can't wait to see the progress you guys make. It will need attention to the SU fuel pump (underneath the boot floor area) a new set of plugs and points, a battery fresh gallon of petrol....and hey presto!
Imagine the end product after you get it to work, huge satisfaction and great content for us to watch especially on a car like this. Appreciate you doing this for the viewers - we all love it. Look forward to the second and the rest of sequence to this!
Wow Rob and Chris its good to see a old classic live on and by the time you both have got it sorted im sure the owner will thankyou for it cant wait to see the next video of it as all your videos are very interesting big thumbs up 👍👍👍
Love these midgets, i have a 1974 Wolseley 6 Auto. All the best guys!
Looks 100% original, not even an after-market steering wheel. I can't remember the last time I saw an original MG grille that was that straight and free of dents. That barn must also have been pretty free of ambient damp, judging by the solid-looking sills, door bottoms, etc. Terrific find.
Need a part 2 already 👍🏻
Cracking video as always Rob! Can't wait to see it cleaned up and running mate!
Rob you are spoiling us now, really looking forward to seeing this makeover
Thanks Rob and Chris !
Excellent idea! There's not much wrong with that Mg that some fresh tyres and brakes, fuel system flush and some paint won't fix. Looks incredibly solid underneath all that dirt and dust - Your knocking it it out of the park with the content, looking forward to seeing its rejuvenation. 👍 👍 ☺️
Looking forward to the test drive it will be cool
Get involved and enjoy
All the best from NZ
A great little car . I bought one brand new back in the 70,s. Red of course absolute classic, wish I still had it now. In fact I just sold my restored 1990 NA MX5 that I had for the last 10 years. Much the same but loved the Midget !
Stumbled across this channel when the £200 focus came in my main page. Love this channel, great to watch someone with passion and has a great way of presenting and speaking to the viewer that’s makes you feel like you’re on the journey with you. Love the projects, have gone back watching all your old videos! Love to buy one of the cars you fix up later this year, you do an incredible and professional job! Literally sat for hours watching the old videos 😂 also never considered an auction so was great to see how it all works with your videos! I’m off to an auction now on Monday, not to buy, but just to see what it’s like all because of your videos! good work, can’t wait for more, loving this channel!!
Sam Booton thank you Sam appreciate your support and message all the best 👍
Awesome. Got a really soft spot for MGs. Just hope it's not too far gone and can be saved.
Great video again guys. Never been so excited as wait to watch a bloke wash a car. Or are you taking it to your local £15 place. I,d love to see their faces. Great content and the little MG won’t let you down..
I love it. 'Barn finds' are massive at auction at present. You'll half the value by washing it!😆
I’m really looking forward to seeing the progress of this one. 👍
Rob- Your content is bang on- It covers all tastes from the Ferrari to the bike- And all ages, Id say- Many of us have had some of those cars or worked on them. I’ve got a few and you’ve already done or touched on 2 of them- even though my daily run-around is a bit newer but still an MG. (TF160)- They are a joy to drive, easy to park and easy to repair. That Midget is easy-peasy as Rimmers, B&G have all the bits, if not a little pricey- you can even get Heritage shells- but you wont be doing that!
The MG looks good- don’t jet wash it off- Id just hot soapy water and a brush of if you have to- a brush on the jet-washer.it wont take long- Its got no roof and you are going to get water into it- through the doors etc, so try and limit the high-pressure water!
Next door neighbour had an A and a Midget- his wife flogger it all when he p’eed off for a song- She would let me buy it or them as it would remind her of him- I don’t get rid of stuff, I’m overrun with bikes and cars J
It would make great TV content but I know the producers would ruin you guys..
Really appreciate the thought you guys put into the content you feature on the channel 👍 I could watch barn finds, getting old engines going and cleaning cars like that all day long. Looking forward to seeing it getting cleaned and up and running 👍 nearly 80K as well now Rob. Cheers 👍 Jack.
Cracking little motor, Rob! A year older than I am and it looks how I feel!!
I drove a Midget in 1989 as a mechanic on a test drive, I’m 6”6 tall and could barely close the doors and drive it 😂. It’ll be nice to see it cleaned up 👍.
A great British classic car, loving it, thank you.
Every part is still available for the Midget. Yours looks like an excellent example for restoration compared to what I've seen some people take on!
Hello.
The midget you have is a MK II, in my opinion the best shape i had a 65 fantastic 1098 motor, and they are now quite rare, when mine was on the road 5 years ago there were fewer than 65 on the road in britain.
Also command strong money, i sold mine for £4.800 to a classic car dealer, it was on his stand at the classic car show a few months later for a lot more. Its a gem of a find.
Do your thing lads, can’t wait for the next one!
2020 version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - GO ON Rob, get involved and make it fly !!!!!
Reminds me of my 63 Sprite. Ahhhh....lots of fun. Old English White with red hood, red tonneau and red interior... many miles ago👍
Am 65 now and had a 65 Midget when I was in my late teens/early 20’s. Mine was tartan red with steel wheels and a great little car. Really looking forward to seeing you work your magic on this one. Cheers.
I've got a '71 MG Midget in parts in my garage, this may be the inspiration I need. Looking forward to it. 🙂
Is yours a 1275cc
@@hfraat25 Sure is. Stripped it down about 15 years ago for rust repairs which have been done just needs painting and reassembling.
I think you're on to a winner with this Midget. Dry-stored for so long , it should be pretty sound. Go for it: better than ending up on Car SOS or Wheeler Dealers!
absolutely worth saving! can't wait to see it cleaned up. nice
you think someone who's into cars would have covered it when storing it.
Agree, a bit of tarp would have made such a difference
Anthony G yeah
10 minutes spent covering it and it would have been a hundred times better than it is now, strange that he didn't!
Lol my dad has one of those in his shed and it covered in stuff to but he put a car cover over it and it hasn’t run in years
@@Xavier_Ns why does he not just sell it on ?
Can’t wait to see this progress. Really live watching your content and as a result I will be having a go at some DIY copart repairs very soon.
a very good project...looking forward to the videos with this one guys...well done to you both.
Restoring this little iconic car will be amazing. What the owner did to that car is shameful. I’m really excited that you are going to give some much needed TLC!
Thanks for taking the time to do these, you will never please everyone but most of us really enjoy them. Love seeing England again through your truck windows.
Been watching the channel for a while now and i absolutely love it. This is great to see. I've just bought a MX-5 RF and i love how its so true to the recipe and spirit of a car like the midget, the true original little sports car. The MG deserves to be revived. Love the channel, love the builds. Please keep the quality content coming. Thank you for your efforts in the name of entertainment for your loyal subscribers.
Now THAT is a cool project. You realise you are getting to be a restorations channel but always good content bringing lovely old cars back to life.
Midgets were mega little cars back in the day. Dead simple and never let you down. Even with Lucas electrics. Looks like a dinged RH wing but they are available from British Heritage no worries.
To be honest I would take the seats and carpets out, jet wash the interior then dry it out. Its a convertible they get wet!
I had a mk3 Sprite.. same as this mk2 M.G. wish I still had it, great fun, great clubs. Easy to work on loads of spares..
Would be so satisfying washing the mg. Good job rob
Rob you have brought us a real treasure with this 1 . Real beautiful colour under all that dust. This is such a winner for us subscribers.
some graft needed to clean it up but we all know you two never shy away from a bit of that.im looking forward to seeing it getting sorted
Cant wait to see it rob i was 19 me and my freind drove it the whole summer we had so much fun.
My Nan and grandad used to have one of these, brings back so many memories
Hannah-Louise Withey 👌👍
Fantastic video rob looking forward to seeing it cleaned up
Great little moter rob , and a fantastic addition to your videos, this will be great to watch.
Can't wait to see the first pass with the jet washer.
Like always it’s a job that’s been waiting for enthusiasm you both have to restore salvage cars go for it 👍👍👍
Lovely Jubbly, looks reasonable after sitting for so long, get started we can't wait to this little gem cleaned.
The petrol tank might need a flush out then 🤣
Awesome Rob love this!
Subscribed, can't wait to see the car minus the 30 years of dust. I have a 69 and your 65 looks in fair shape from what I can tell looking thru the layers of dust. The fact that it was running in 91 then stored under a roof is good. Looks like the right front wing was banged a bit, but that's easy to deal with.
Brings back many memories, my '73 midget, roof down, holiday in Cornwall with the girlfriend of the time. Wire wheels, before the abysmal rubber bumpers, it's got everything going for it, If you're not saving it, call me!
to convert from rubber bumpers to chrome you have to change the springs as well
@@squeakmillward Who mentioned converting from rubber to chrome bumpers? I stated that my 1973 Midget was the model BEFORE the rubber bumpers were introduced in '74 which they did to comply with the USA market.
Yeah! Love your comments. I owned the Austin- Healey (1965). A truly great British Car! I used to travel once a week to Scotland in it, then back again at weekend. A round trip of 480 miles each week. Flat-Out on the A1 and A66, it showed 100MPH on the clock - but I doubt it! It seemed almost unbreakable. I owned the Healey for six years, and had many memorable trips with the Hood down, and nice sunny days. Wire wheels too, all shiny and new. I hope that salvage rebuilds can restore the MG to new condition. It isn't that difficult - over time. I hated the change of model with the USA rubber bumpers. It was the USA that forced change.
Get it running guys can’t wait to watch more rob 💪👏👌😁😁
At least it wasn’t left outside for all those years ! Still a lot of work ,you two definitely don’t go for the easy ones ! 👍
That ain't too far gone. I had a midget that I restored years ago, the A posts are still good, the cills look ok, it has had repair panels put in at sometime. All you need is available. Nice early midget. Go for it. It will be great fun. Rooting for you here.. ;o)
Looking forward to this one. Good luck. 👍
