- Gooday everyone and hoping that here in the UK especially (though parts of Europe are suffering much worse), you're enjoying and coping with this incredible summer weather. In all honesty and for me at least, I think a drop of rain wouldn't go amiss. In fact in some areas of the UK, the weather has gone from one extreme to the other, and are now experiencing torrential downpours and thunder.
In this video I have a treat for my 1000's of cookery fans - a quick, tasty, healthy and nutritious meal - whole mackerel, new potatoes and asparagus.
Also I give an update on when I'll be getting back to the cruising videos again, as well as why some of the canals are closed in places.

Kevin, it’s good to see you cooking again. As an adolescent, I used to spend many summers staying with my grandfather on Cape Cod. He had me help tend his vegetable garden, which included asparagus. When the asparagus was in season, we ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and learned that snap point on the stem leaves off the tough stringy base and leaves you the best of the top part. So put down the knife and snap away. Cheers!

You're right Marty, no air con onboard. It does get a bit much, so I go outside and find a shady tree.
I am one of your cookery fans so I will enjoy these videos . As I watched this Tonight Queen Elizabeth passed I wanted to say that we here in the States mourn her passing also . In many ways she is the words Queen she always stood for duty and service showed great decorum and humor and respect for people. RIP

Glad you are back. You can’t cruise when there is no water. The heat is also a serious factor to be considered. So just enjoy life and cruise when the muse calls again.

For those not from the UK, wondering about the temperatures, we've experienced 2 separate weeks of above 30C, this summer, which hasn't happened since 1976. Normally, the summer temperature is ~23C +/-4C. The weather broke with thunderstorms and rain, 3 days ago, where I am, so we're back to normal temperatures.
The temperature around the lower half of the UK has remained around 30 - 35c for most of the time. Combined with little to no breeze, it's been hard going at times. Hit 38 one day.
@@CountryHouseGent Hotter than here in the S. of Spain. Most I've measured in the last few days is 34c.
I'm from the American south. We are used to hot weather but those temps would make even a southern girl wilt. Yikes!

Perhaps oddly, I find your cooking bits nearly as relaxing as the cruising. There's something very appealing about cooking smells wafting through the cozy confines of a narrow boat. The snugness will be more alluring when it's cooler, but I'm still loving the cruising cuisine.

Glad the knife worked out. Be careful when using the bread knife. I have had a bun in my hand and went to split it open in my hand and cut said hand open without feeling the initial cut.

Mackerels are considered some of the most nutritious fishes. They're an excellent source of protein, vitamins B2, B3, B6, and B12, and vitamin D. Their flesh is also full of minerals like copper, selenium, and iodine. Some of these fishes also contain good amounts of iron and vitamin B1.
