  • In this video, I have an opportunity to take a real-world problem I got called out on. A pilot reported a magneto problem on his aircraft, and I went through the first process of troubleshooting the problem. Part one will take us to the ordering of the parts we need. Then, we will repair the magneto in part two and reinstall it onto the aircraft.
I am also promoting the live stream on September 15 at 7pm CST, in which we will perform a troubleshooting exercise for the location and repair of aircraft wiring. I had asked in the video that anyone wishing to attend, who has not used a multimeter, review the Multimeter 101 video on my channel.

I have a j3 Cub with a c85. I check the mags before the flight and get a 125rpm on L & R. I also have moved the mag switch to OFF and the engine shuts down. However AFTER my flight when I move the mag switch to OFF the engine will not shut down. I have taken the switch apart, cleaned it, ohm checked it and it tests good. What do you think is the problem?

You might have an intermitten ground wire from the switch to where ever its grounded. I might even be grounded through the switch mount and it could be riding on paint or corrosion.

Yes I have had a chance to replace one on a stranded 172. I will add that experience to part two.

I am so sorry. I forgot to mention the electronic magneto. That for sure is going to be a video soon.

Good question! - but it costs a lot of money to set one up, and there is very little income for the instructors. Right now I am doing online only until the economy changes.
