  • The world's youngest president, Ibrahim Traoré, 35, born around 1988 in Kéra, Bondokuy, Mouhoun Province, Burkina Faso, is the current interim leader of Burkina Faso. His early life was spent in Bondokuy and later in Bobo-Dioulasso for high school, where he was known for being quiet and talented. Traoré studied geology at the University of Ouagadougou, engaging actively in student associations, and graduated with honors.
He joined the army of Burkina Faso in 2009, and his military career includes significant milestones. Promoted to lieutenant in 2014, Traoré was part of MINUSMA, a UN peacekeeping force in the Mali War. He was recognized for his bravery during rebel attacks in the Tombouctou Region in 2018. Later, he returned to Burkina Faso to fight against the insurgency, participating in several counter-insurgency operations. His promotion to captain came in 2020.
Traoré's dissatisfaction with the Burkina Faso government, particularly concerning the mismanagement of resources and corruption, led him to become a spokesperson for soldiers stationed in the north. He was a key figure in the January 2022 Burkina Faso coup d'état.
Traoré has been vocal about breaking the shackles of neo-colonialism and changing the status quo in Africa.
