I'm so happy that this professor is objective enough to highlight the perpetual impact of wrong precedents. Pretty foolish to build s highrise building on a defective substructure. Good job, Prof!
Your comment captured Prof’s exposition so well. Well said
Honestly, indeed "legitimacy of elections are no longer with the people but with politicians and Judges." Many of us commoners no longer bother to vote many years ago. What's the use voting. I said it before and TVC refused to post my comments. This supreme court judgment has more to it than meet the eye. There's the visible hand of a monkey manipulating the matter to deal with a current corrupt situation. How can the country move forward by using a seemingly legal method to solve a corrupt situation. Politicians and Judges, una de play. Don't run o. Stay and face the music when the time comes.
Very brilliant comment from our courageous, highly educated and respected lawyer. Indeed you cannot give what you don’t have. 😂😂😂
This are brilliant thoughts not like Liborous Oshoma that goes to every station to say what the people want to hear rather than say the truth or state the facts
Prof chidi odinkalu, i can't thank you enough sir, God bless you and richly bless the womb that held you for nine months, God bless your mother 🙏.
It turns me on to see that we still have people with head on their shoulder. Kudos prof
What Professor Kalu is simply explaining is that you cannot employ dirty water, dirty bowl and dirty soap in for the process of restoring a piece of dirty white clothing back to its whiteness. And I think this should not be too difficult for anyone to understand.
I humbly suggest to the host/anchor to watch this interview again and then check his dictionary for the meaning of the words "afraid" and "facts". Perhaps then he might understand how some (if not most) viewers (as well as his guest) may perceive his attitude as being uncomfortable whenever the guest's responses to his questions were different from the script he (the host) had written beforehand. I'm pretty sure he can do better than that but of course, he's not "afraid"! Speaking for me and just me, I must thank him though for inviting Professor Odinkalu to this interview.
Well humbly suggested 👊
This host is stuck on arithmetic, the guest is on calculus. The host can’t seem to understand that this judgement won’t solve the problem because the LGAs are still at the will of governors who installed them.
Exactly, the host and journalist struggled along to understand or accept the fundamental but repeated errors in jurisprudence that has bedevils our political process and which still makes the local council autonomy rather fluid.
😅
Even that withstanding, this judgement still VASTLY increases the power and independence of the LGs.
@@MA-go7ee well, for now that is all “in theory”. Let’s see if in practice this is one of the court judgements that will be obeyed/enforced.
Bandit election? Yes!
As long as the governors determine who becomes the LG Chairman and the state electoral commission continues to conduct LG elections, the judgement holds no water.
One of the major problems we have in Nigeria is that the media is not interested in the pursuit of the truth and the advancement of the public good.
That is the honest truth. They all pretend to be journalists but are afraid to speak up. Nigeria has many issues, and I'm not sure where to start.
they have all been captured by the government, started from the Buhari govt .
Just like our judicial system
You have said it all!
Government Captured
Parties Captured
Media Captured
The State Capture completed.
It is all over Ladies and gentlemen.
I was jubilating over the verdict until I watched this interview. Indeed, Professor Odinkalu deeply understands how Nigeria works and his view has made me sceptical of outcome of the celebrated SC ruling.
We were in the same boat comrade
There is no uhuru in sight. We must get our elections right
Exactly
Prof may God continue to bless you. I totally agree with you intoto that our supreme court is utterly IRRESPONSIBLE.
You people cannot appreciate the judiciary as arm of government, Is this not a progress?. You hide under the bed of a woman and be giving comments irrelevantly. Don't get me angry o. Anyways, jokes apart, let's appreciate this. The effect is that Local government is closed to the people and the positive impact should be felt. the people should hold their leaders accountable in their respective areas(L.G). EFCC nets await any corrupt leaders!
I can strongly confirm the validity of every of his argument
This are brilliant thoughts not like Liborous Oshoma that goes to every station to say what the people want to hear rather than say the truth or state the facts
The guy has lost credibility
Odinkalum your thought are spot on, unfortunately they are far more weightier than what our Judiciary can assimilate and handle. It's a sorry state of the Nigerian state, and even scary when there seem not to be any light at the end of the tunnel.
The man is right, the money will still find it's way back to the pockets of the governors.
LGAs are the selected choice of governors who cannot raise their hands or move their legs without the order of their governors!
Those who can not stand the heat should avoid the kitchen. Uzoma, if you as a journalist can not stand the frankness of Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, don't invite him to your station for an interview because he's not one of those that will sugar-coat words for you. It's only those who don't have honour that come to your station and be massaging the egos of politicians. Furthermore, he is not one of those University Professors who after years of studies, research and writing journals, still compromise their integrity to rigg elections for uneducated and semi literate politicians all for pots of soup. Well done, Prof.
BUT WHY DO OUR JOURNALISTS DELIBERATELY ACTS STUPID AND CARELESS AND IGNORANT? KAI!!
The journalist has been compromised because they have been compromised by the politicians
This journalist has drank the water of foolishness
The most of the journalists in Nigeria are all pretending to be stupid, directly collaborating with the corrupt system in Nigeria to destroy the country
Na mumu dem be nau,🤷♀️😂
THIS IS COWARDLY DISAPPOINTMENT, WE DON'T HAVE MEN AGAIN .
This host is completely out of his depth. The Professor's thinking and logic is certainly way above the understanding of the host .
I don't think the host is out of his depth. It's either fear of loosing his job or ideological inclination both situations can be cloud your judgement
@@idiaidia6082 u right 😂😂
Accurate responses from this Prof.
Professor has always been genuine and honest about the realities of Nigeria’s failure
So proud of you sir,a brother to Rev Fr Augustine Obinna Odinkalu from Imo State . intelligent people
Do you know them ?
Yes
This problem of Nigeria includes this kind of journalism; crappy
Prof says it just as it is. Kudos sir!
I am not afraid of facts, I am a journalist 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks to the Prof for his predictability and facts analysis
Pay attention to your guest. You weren't following him. Are you an APC member?
😂😂😂
So the professor is labor or what are u implying. The prof is deviating from the question and talking about the 2023 election which a lot of u are still delusional about . The prof made so much sense on what he's talking about but he's still deviating from the actual question and the interviewer is not ready to play politics and we know channels tv to be neutral from Arise an indigo pdp/ labor tv station and tvc which also tilted to the ruling party.
Kudos to Prof. Well spoken. 👏👏👏👏👏👍
I totally agree with the prof. I don't know where the interviewer is not seeing prof points of view
This host is very uncomfortable here. It appeared his planned script is not working. Prof is erudite, direct and clear.
Professor of Law, not bought or dashed, it shows in your depth of thoughts and communication. Thank you sir.
Thank you very much Prof. Insightful thoughts ❤
You dont fail.
Nice listening to you always.
Prof chidi odinkalu ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ please adopt me as your son, Well said sir, shame on this quack journalist.
Some of our journalists need to be retrained 😂
The interviewer is so daft..instead of asking what can be done to correct the political jurisprudence set by the supreme Court to refresh the whole system..you are busy asking how to legalise illegality..
This is the problem with Nigeria. Most of the comments by people with Yoruba names are condemning the facts stated by prof. Nigeria is very sick with this degree of tribalism. Terrible, indeed.
You see and read what's on your mind.
Anyone who believes the supreme judgement will solve the Local government issue in Nigeria is simply daydreaming.
But it's a step in good direction
@@JimmysteeveI wonder why some people think we can solve the problems in one day.
@Jimmysteeve
Which direction
As long as the LGA elections are flawed, there is nothing you can do.
It will be rigged, and the rigged LGA chairmen will just hand over the funds back to the governors
That is why Nigerians don't know anything and allow these politicians and do called judges deceive them
@@njuzyelvisekambi314
How many years of your independence?
Who will conduct local government elections in the state.
Isn’t it state independence electoral commission, which members are selected by governors.
It is your mate who are fighting for their future in Kenya, in Nigeria you come with your tribal and religious sentiments.
Your president today doesn’t have primary and secondary school certificates, and you see it as a normal thing.
Even his university certificate is being questioned.
You will suffer it not me. I live in Edmonton Canada. My children are enjoying good education better than you do.
Keep on deceiving yourself. Someone like wike’s wife, how can such a judge adjudicate political cases.
You just missed the point. what was the impact of the educated in Nigeria politics?
God bless you sir
Truth is bitter like Alomo . Unfortunately, truth is truth
Truth is not actually bitter. It is in fact as sweet as sugar. It is only bitter for that hate the truth, but for those of us that love Truth, it is sweet and you can see it from the majority of the comments from the interview
Prof. Thank you for being blunt.
Prof is always on point. The Supreme Court is dead and can't provide a solution.
The LGA will with their own hand send a percentage the governor wants to them 😅😅😅😅. If not the LGA chairperson will not smell that seat
Host should be more articulate in the questions and build on the discussion
Blessed is the womb that conceived this man. Even more blessed are children flowing from his loins. I'm speechless.
This is what I expect from any learned mind unlike those who have been hailing the supreme court over the development.
The same Supreme Court should pass a judgment barring the states electoral bodies from conducting or overseeing local government elections.
I am unfazed and unmoved about this ,as it is a late and flogging a dead horse
This journalist is olodo why are you keep saying 2023 election when the man was saying from 2003
Prof is on point
Chidi Odinkalu may you experience peace here and forever more......
Thank you porf
Do you think these journalists in Nigeria (if they can be referred to as one) go back to read comments by their viewers? The failure of the institutions that has contributed to the failure of the country is not unique to the judiciary and law enforcement alone. The news media, as represented by the host of this program, exemplifies the inadequacies of the media to play their part in a liberal democracy. Frankly, I became irritated when this host kept pushing a mindset in contravention of the point his guest was making repeatedly. To make the matter worse, he referred to himself as a journalist. The jury is out whether we can truly call him a journalist or simply someone hosting a tv program.
Prof, you have said it all, sir. ❤
There should just short down Channels TV. There are part of this problem we have in this country. Na APC the run channels underground 😅. How can a TV station be afraid 😞 of airing the truth. There should know that my brother Odinkalu is no afraid 😟 to say the truth before inviting him
Well-spoken Prof!!!
Am disappointed with the anchor of today's interview, how can he be asking his guest to explain the obvious truth. Asking the same question over and over again.
The legitimacy is not from the governors but the people and because of deep seated misplacement. The control mechanisms for local governments is not electoral. The local government governing council is the most of important factor how we use not now as Nigerian in our different localities matters.
Nobody will obey these criminal justices . Nigeria will not move forward with all these criminals
Inasmuch we don't believe that anything can work or good thing can't come out, then why do we still remains as Nigerians? Let every region go there separate way and start allover again.
You're afraid of getting answers to questions you asked...
For me how to get this right is to correct the state electoral process make sure the electoral process in each of the state is independent from the state governors and those local government chairman can emerge from different parties without the governors influencing them and pray the supreme court to stop giving Nigerians bandit judgement in
He was like “ how about if the appointees were qualified” to be judges 🤩
What now happens to secondary school teachers and other workers salaries domiciled in the local government areas. Who now pays. Is it the local government or the state government.😮
Nigeria judiciary is a crime scene and a family Christmas 🎄
Nigeria is a captured state.
Professor, you are legend
Are the governors accountable for the judicious use of the funds they get. Talkless of local government installed by the governors
God bless you, Prof., for always being frank! This channel TV anchor is biased!
The worrisome substitution of our country
What we should now watch out for is governors dissolving LGA chairman seats and appointing sdministratorsthe to continue their thieving ways
No allocation without elected individuals according to Supreme Court
Read the judgment. That was a perfect judgement no elections no funds. That how counties and counties work in other country. This funds are used by Governors since 99 and they have been fighting not to give local government Autonomy because they know they are going to be weak.
You didn't understand that verdict.
And you think the local government chairmen are holy ? Hahahahaha 😅, you better think again and again .
@@Chrisugo None are holy but LGA autonomy is better IMHO, now government is closer to the people and we can talk directly and hold LGA chain and women responsible
Who are the Democratically elected people. Once you dont derive your power and authority from the people but on the governors and judiciary and government then it is useless
We all know it’s not going to cause an immediate change but should be e not begin? For those of us that has witness effective local administration before 2003. It’s a welcome development which will eventually makes democracy reaches the grass root with it dividends.
Thank you sir God bless you
Prof you're on point
Bandit election? Yes!
As long as the governors determine who becomes the LG Chairman and the state electoral commission continues to conduct LG elections, the judgement holds no water.b
Corruption has enguffed the country.
He has answered your questions. Why are you repeating the question
This presenter is an absolute disgrace! Indeed, a product of an endemically corrupt & rotten system; totally unfit & incapable of raising his questioning to meet the sound and empirical analysis of the Professor. Very sad indeed!
Please confirm to us the services expected of governors vis-a-vis LGAs
Because super court is zero those not mean that lG autonomy is not needed , let us do something
How can a building stand on a faulty foundation.
The journalists in Nigeria now are so careful that they can’t even stomach the facts. It’s strange it’s judges electing their children’s wife’s in laws . It’s a sad situation no wonder the judgements are a downward spiral
This guy was not smart enough to devite from his pre-written question because he was not expecting the guest to tsje hom bsck to the irigin of the problem...so it was just a back and forth to nothingness
Prof is saying that the people have no means or power to hold politicians accountable for their performances in government because they derive their mandates from the courts and not from the people.
The host is as useless as their judicial and the corrupt politicians in Nigeria.
Why didn't BAT push for this while in office as a governor? I will only give kudos to a sitting governor for fighting for local government autonomy in all spheres. Nothing is so special about governance!
This is why I don’t like Channels TV. They are pretenders and very afraid to speak truth to power.
God bless and guide the president of Nigeria
I am waiting to hear what petter obi will say on this issue
Is peter Obi the president
The issues in elections seem from national assembly not the courts alone
The host keep saying i understand....whlie he dnt understand nothing...Pls next time understand
This Journalist is a mere questions asking Journalist. He said so. They(his types) are always afraid to do investigations because exposing flaws in governments would make them lose patronage. Lazy and dogmatic as usual. He was not listening to the date(year) the Professor was reeling out. The guest is a very patient man.
The system is totally flawed yet we have an Odinaka.....the story of seeing issues from.only one perspective is totally wrong. There will always be exceptions and a turning point.Better write what wrongs than let the old order remain.
Who will monitor the LGA chair person. Rubbish
Channels has been a serious problem in Nigeria for the past 9 years
Suprême Court just hand over local govts to apc and we know how power hungry apc wants to go. I don,t believed in good faith in suprême court, my opinion. Apc believed in one party system govt and I hope this not thé beginging!
Where is my comment?
This interviewer is a shame to journalism. He should just go and collect an APC card and get a job there.
Mr host please allow my guest to nail it. And it seems you are afraid of the truth
Jeffrey uzono being afraid of fact
Even as a journalist, you must do your research and be abreast with facts.
Naija journalists 🤥🙌🏿
