Loved everything about this one! Both singers were amazing but that second singer about knocked me out of my chair!
Deep voice is Henning May, the "may" of AnnenMayKantereit. The other singer is Frederik Rabe of Giant Rooks. They video went from one band to another and then they all gathered at the end.

I recommend Pocahontas, live in Berlin from AnnenMayKantereit. Also, Lass es Kreisein, live in Cologne. Both bands are German bands often singing in German.

The singer Henning May not only has a very raspy voice, but also a very powerful one. They started out as three street musicians in 2011.
There is a nice recording of their early days singing Sunny Day in a German city unplugged and pure.

I just found the second band, AnnenMayKantereit, about two weeks ago through some CZcams shorts. The lead singer, Henning May, has the kind of voice that just draws you in (that one in the brown t-shirt). I just had to hear more, and thankfully they have a lot of stuff out.. and it's ALL good.
Long story short, I ended up listening to their entire output & now I consider myself a fan of theirs. I had to order their albums from Germany because they don't sell them here, but they are super famous in Germany. Their original stuff is in German, but I guarantee that is not a bad thing at all. I don't know that much German, but Henning's voice is the kind of voice that works in any language, and he even makes German sound pretty..! I'm 100% sure if they'd perform in English, they'd be world famous by now.

There is nothing wrong with the sound of the German language. If you think so you don't know it.
If I remember it right, AnnenMayKantereit never had the intention to be popular all over the world.

I don't think they should perform in English at all; it's pretty clear to me that they have chosen their native language for a reason and I totally respect that. I just wish that more people would see & hear beyond the language barriers, and got to know their music. There's nothing wrong with being popular.

The song is a cover of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (1987).
This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice, May pronounced like "my") is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. Since - as always with reactions to this one - everybody in the comments is recommending to watch more of AMK (which is obviously a good idea) I have to recommend you also watch more of Giant Rooks, too! I especially like "Bright Lies", "Bedroom Exile" and "Wild Stare" but there are many other wonderful songs out there!

I think anyone who doesn't have a fantastic voice immediately sounds like an amateur next to Henning May. That's why you should never underestimate the singers in the songs in the co-ops.
