    My son and me used to squirrel hunt with muzzleloaders. I use a charleville musket with shot in it. I used pillow tacking lub, for both my top and bottom wad. Paper had a tendency to catch on fire. He used a hawkens rifle same method. We got a hole lot of squirrels hunting that way.

    Man That reminds me of a muzzle loader that my grandfather made for my dad years ago. He had a friend make the barrel and he made the stock. It was a 50 caliber if I remember correctly. I wish i had that skill. Love the video man keep them coming. Have a great day .

      Thanks. This is a kit gun from back in the 70s and is a 45 caliber. I never built one myself but want to.

    I have a 50 cal. Frontier Flintlock rifle. I shoot #6 shot 70 to 90 grains of 2F black powder. 20 to 30 yards at the most. I use the same volume of shot per volume of powder.

    You gotta try 40 grains of powder 40 grains of cornmeal.Then you're shot and then a Overshaw wad try that.

    I would have sworn the wad would have been the ticket. although I like the idea of the paper better... very surprising. May have to work up a load for my .50's

      @GO_OutDoors  Před 3 lety

      Yes i was thinking the wad would have been the way to go. I thought of trying my 50 cal

    I shoot number 6 shot out of my 60 caliber. 70 grns 3f and same amount of shot. With a card wad over the powder then a thin card on top of the shot. Shoots good to 20 yards.

    Pretty good patterning. What did you use to make your paper cartridges and what weight would you estimate the shot load? Keep having fun.

    • @GO_OutDoors
      @GO_OutDoors  Před 3 lety

      I just used a wood dowl that would fit down the barrel. I used #7 shot and have no idea on the weight. I guess I will make another video and try different shot size and weight's. Thanks for watching.

    So would you say shooting shot out of a rifled barrel damages the bore?

    • @GO_OutDoors
      @GO_OutDoors  Před 2 lety

      I would say if it was lead shot no but steel shot yes maybe. It also depends on how deep the rifling is. If the rifling is beep you would not get a good tight pattern with loose shot down the barrel. But using a wad to contain the shot like I did no problem. Thanks for the Great question.
