      991.1 wasnt raw .... it was an unfinished product with a semi working transmission and flawed engine
      with a proper set of exhaust 992 is on similiar level of rawness to a 991.2 but with better performance
      only comparable in term of driving pleasure would be any 997 rs thats well maintained

      Sorry Big T, love your stuff, but I don't agree with you on this one. The analog is more engaging, more of a real world experience. Not having to look at a screen is like throwing your smart phone in the trunk and just escaping from the troubles of the day. Having a bunch of screens in your vehicle is tantamount to having your face buried in your smart phone while driving, only it isn't in your hands. Imagine a your child buried in their phone who won't look up during a conversation with you, vs one who sets the phone aside to pay attention to your conversation while retaining eye contact the entire time. Same difference.

    I’ve owned a brand new 991.1 GT3, 991.2 GT3 manual, 991.2 GT3 RS, and now a 992 GT3 manual. I don’t disagree about the interior, especially since the 991 had a lower, more mid engined car, dashboard height that gave a much better view of the road. The 992 feels like a sedan in comparison, so I agree with him on that as well as the over complication of displays/screens (for a 911). The part I am fully disagreeing with is the way the car drives and the build quality. The 992’s double wishbone front suspension gives the car heroic levels of turn in and front end grip, yes the wheel is more darty but it transmits so much more feel. The structural rigidity and build quality of the body is noticeably better. The 991.2 feels ok in this regard but the 992 feels like a whole lot more expensive car in it’s solidity, the way the doors close, the tighter panel gaps etc. And the final advantage of the 992 is the engines ITB’s (individual throttle bodies) that give the car so much crisper throttle response at every single part of the powerband. So like any car when it is redesigned, there are some advantages with the prior generation but in my opinion the 992 is absolutely the better car ….especially in terms of performance/rawness which is the reason you buy a Porsche GT car in the first place

      It's too digital, large, and refined. GT cars should feel like a cup car!

    • @iOSAT
      @iOSAT Před 3 měsíci +5

      Yeah I spent some time in the 992 GT3 and GT3 RS recently at PEC Atlanta, and have test driven a GT3 Touring; a major takeaway I had is the GT3 truly should be a Touring model for road driving. You simply cannot get enough out of the 992 GT3 (and naturally RS) when you’re on the road, yet the GT3 T essentially sets its own expectation of being a “touring” car, not a race car. Take the 992 GT3 out on the track and I’m not sure anyone will be complaining when they’re seconds ahead of the 991, and even further than a 997. Given the complains surrounding road driving, I don’t expect he does or plans to take it around the track.
      His complaints seem to boil down to, “well it’s too good”. But this is something that’s been said every generation of Porsche - every generation is larger, more refined, more digital…. but faster, quicker, more stable, and built better. Porsche doesn’t have a track record of making worse cars. But, if you want more “visceral” as every enthusiast cries out for, buy the generation that fits your expectations of feel.

    • @iOSAT
      @iOSAT Před 3 měsíci +9

      @@ClubBlau I understand your sentiment, but if you believe the GT3 should feel like the cup car… I don’t believe you’ve driven a GT3 Cup Car. Also, consider Porsche is a business that sells to its average 911 buyer: a 52 years old man. Their average consumer would be absolutely broken by a Cup Car driven on the streets.

    • @ClubBlau
      @ClubBlau Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@iOSAT I did buy the one I want. :) personally I still enjoy the 991 touring more on track than I did my 991 RS or the 992 Gt3. That's me. To each their own of course. Just my opinion.

    • @ClubBlau
      @ClubBlau Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@iOSAT sure but I think the average 52-year-old probably doesn’t want a manual only super stiff Porsche. They probably want the comfortable one. So they should keep the pure one pure for the pure driving buyers. Instead, there is this trend where they make every car more water down and mainstream. Keep the GT cars more like race cars. That’s the point. Or at least it used to be.

    Sure, They’re fast if I get the road space to see what they can do, but I get far less enjoyment when compared to the older analog raw and slower generations. BRING BACK LIGHTWEIGHT ENTHUSIAST CARS

      That's what I love about my 2019 Miata RF. Even though the car only has 180HP it's more than enough when the car weighs just over 2300lbs.
      For a 4 cylinder it revs so smoothly and makes power all the way to redline. The car feels like it wants to be reved out and the best part is that I can actually do that on public roads without losing my license.
      My Miata is far from the most capable car on the road but the levels are low enough where I can actually play with and explore the car in a fun way without needing to get up to triple digit speeds.
      My car has an electric steering rack which is a bit numb but every other touch point and input gives you information on what the car is doing.
      Out right performance is awesome but I'll take a slower and more playful car over out right performance every time.

    I agree with everything he stated. One thing I noticed after experiencing the 992 compared to 991.2 was the sound. The 991.2 had this insane induction noise on the inside when you climbed through the rev range that made you almost cringe as you got to 9k. 992, while it sounded nice, was missing that rawness. Also, the 992's auto start stop is insanely annoying every time you get back in the car, you would need to dig through the menus just to turn the damn thing off. 4:00 My biggest feat right there when going into a new car. I absolutely ADORE my GR Corolla. I may miss the analog gauges but the simple digital cluster works well enough, and it doesn't ding nearly as much to be annoying. The only time it dings is occasionally if it doesn't feel a brake input and it sees a wall coming a little too fast. It's sensitivity can be adjusted but it rarely happens (1-2 times a month).
    I saw my friend's car with the new HRV and it beeps if it thinks there's a car on your right or left lane. The GR simply flashes and it can also be turned off. I've driven top trim Lexus's that have a facial scanner that beep every second you're not looking at the road.
    So I'm still glad that despite my GR Corolla being made in 2023, it still feels almost as raw but comfortably so, as my old mr2 aw11 from 1989.

    As a current 991.2 GT3 6MT owner, I wholeheartedly agree with this video. Some more less-discussed points: the 992 specifies C40 spec engine oil over the A40 spec. C40 spec oil is harder to find and much more expensive. Doing an oil change on the 992 GT3 means a lot less oil comes out on the drain. I typically get about 7.5 litres of oil out of my 991.2 GT3.

    The whole point of gauges is to provide information at a glance. If I have to interact with gauge it has already failed it's mission. This is a psychology failure of the designer. The phallacy is that you can just implement a different method and it will succeed because it is newer. But it will not succeed unless you match all the features of the old implementation. You need to *think* about what the purpose of a gauge is and how it is used, then design your product to do what it should as quickly and easily as possible.

    I agree. I have a manual 991.2 GT3 and bought my wife a 992 GTS manual. The interior of the 992 is a big step down in my opinion. The softness and more disconnected feeling is right. I think in the case of the GTS trim it works bc this is meant to be a less raw car, but the 992 GT3 is not appealing to me for all of these reasons he mentioned. The GT3RS I think might be, but honestly this is now such an aero dominated car that I'm not sure it has appeal to me as a road car.

      Your analogy of LSX is too extreme. A lot people just want the basic creature comforts, we don’t want to bombarded with technology inside the cabin. We don’t want a huge ass tablet inside the cabin like a Tesla. The younger generation might want that, but the guys my age 40-50 years old buying these types of cars don’t want that nonsense. I own a nice 991.2 manual like you.
    No dealer ever offered me a new gt3 992 (hard to get on the list) so went with the 991.2. Reading and watching reviews on the 992 made me feel somewhat pissed that I had to pay essentially the same for the old car used as I could have for a new one had I been given an allocation
    Having driven older Porsche 911’s along with a Subi STI I agree with you re analog dashboards and rawness. And I’ve never even driven the 992- so cannot pass judgment as to whether the new dashboard would be a deal breaker as it was for you. As it stands to go to a 992 at current aftermarket prices from my 991.2 would still be $50k-
    Hard to say if that front suspension upgrade is worth the $50k, even if I tolerate the digital dash

The 997.2/1.2 GT3 is the sweet spot, even above the 1.2 RS. It gives you 90% of the RS experience with a drop of refinement, and gives you still some of the unfiltered mechanical noises of a 997. It is a lower spec, manual seats, no touch screen. I love the simplicity of it and the power. Gets shitty mpg but you expect that. I drove a brand new 2023 that was pretty optioned up early last year for a couple weeks. Big 14" screen, all the sensors, auto start stop, etc. I went back to my old truck and just felt at home. This is the video I've been waiting for. I do really like the 992 GT3, and I did a double take when I saw one the other day. Really a cool car that I'd like to have one day. But that 991.2...it is even more special to me. The looks, the hybrid between analogue and technology, and the sound in-cabin is unbeatable to me. In short, I don't dislike the 992, but the 991 is prettier to me and is still an excellent track car if that's what you want. However, if you want the most raw experience in a Porsche GT car, you have to go back to the days of the 996/7 generations with the Mezger engine and mechanical power steering. Pretty much everyone who's driven them agrees that their steering was better than even the 992's EPAS based on feel.

    Completely disagree with this video on so many levels.
    The main screen can have Apple CarPlay fully and you can turn off other notifications so I don’t see how that’s a concern. The center screen can be set so that sport and race both show the same screen. That means that when you start the car and the normal mode, all you have to do is move a click dial once and then the screens are the same. By clicking that button once you also remove the auto start stop. If you’ve ever been in a real modern race car it’s loaded with tons of technology, buttons, and digital gauges everywhere. The GT3RS is a perfect example. The double wishbone front end is not just a minimal performance increase. It is massive. The performance of the standard GT3 992 out performs the previous GT3RS in every measurable number. The new car is also lighter than the previous generation spec’d right. I’ve driven all generations of Porsche GT3, and I currently own a 992 GT3.
    This video is purely Clickbait. And it worked.
