“I’ve been to the best shoulder doctors in the world, and I’ve learned hanging from a bar is the best thing for your shoulders” Alex hormozi. I had shoulder pain and legit I did stretches for 1 day and hanged and all my shoulder pain was gone from only a couple days of hanging. Truly an amazing exercise.
I shattered my shoulder in a motorcycle accident 10 years ago. Ive had extremely limited ability to reach overhead since then. But a few months ago i started hanging semi regularly. It was extremely painful at first and i couldn't do it for more than a few seconds, but i can hang for over a minute now and the difference it's made in my ability to reach overhead has been tremendous.
i always felt like i could never approach a bar like this because i’m super overweight and i know i can’t do a pull up. but this video gave me hope that i can start somewhere and even the most basic work will make a difference. thank you for this, genuinely
I second the wrist wraps comment. Your grip will give out before any of your muscles, Idc how overweight you are. 👍 And if you're doing this to build some basic strength, just do it every day, as much as you can each day. If your muscles aren't used to it, it'll be hard - but the muscles used in this will recover daily and the more frequent you do it the faster you will adjust.
Further advice on pull-ups and chin-ups: jumpstart into the up position and only work on the descending half of the exercise. You'll be able to ascend sooner than later 👍🏼
i never really trained my grip specifically, but once i started doing these i noticed my grip strength explode exponentially. it's such an easy yet beneficial workout it's seriously a cheat code.
Thanks for everything, Daniel. I've bought several of your programs and would recommend them to anyone (and have), but even the content that you share for free is life-changing. That sort of kindness is uncommon and commendable.
Hanging was my main exercises to strengthen my back and grip when i was struggling with pull ups. They are really good exercises although i often forget to do them
do this everyday at the gym helps a lot with back pain cause from work. if you work in any sort of construction work i recommend doing this everyday it makes a big difference
@rolandopovis6187 I live in italy, yes there are parks with bars, but the main problem is time, I wish I had the possibility to do it within 1 minute 😅
@asinglelettuce598 I won't bother you with details but mounting and dismounting takes me around 3 minutes. And I agree that's not much but can make the difference. I could hang for 2 minutes if I'm randomly passing there and everything is ready to go, but I'm not that determined to mount + hang + dismount 😅 But please don't judge me as a lazy ass, I wake up at 5am to train before work when I could easily wake up at 7.30am if I wouldn't train
Ngl hanging saved my ass more times than i can count. I work in TV production company and we do football and basketball stadium work , the amount of times i have dead hanged from scaffolding so the other guys can pass me cables to route is astonishing
This is true. I had a dislocations and clavicle shortening due to multiple right shoulder injuries. I climb regularly and within weeks of stopping, I have chronic shoulder pain. As soon as I get back to climbing, the pain goes away within a few days. Hanging helps when I am taking breaks from climbing.
Very informative, thank you. After adding dips, I have developed right shoulder aches and clicks and also pain when doing simple unloaded movements. I had been doing passive hangs on rings which felt good but I’ll switch to active hangs. 🙏

Most importantly, it stretches the omovertebral ligament that connects the superior medial scapula and the cervical vertebral - the left scapula is attached to the pericardium.

i had shoulder pain for 6 years with over 10 different PTs looking over it, having surgery (bankart repair), several cortisone injections, literally hundreds and hundreds of hours of videos about shoulder pain watched and many many months of breaks from the gym but my bursas and tendons kept getting inflammated after a heavy chest day. once i started hanging 3 mins a day and focus on chest stretches and rear delt work, my pain completely went away. i tell this info whoever has shoulder pain as it was the only thing that truly helped me and im sure hanging was the most important of the 3
For me it was the opposite. I need to do very gentle Physiotherapy sessions to stabilize my shoulder. I had Hypotonia as a child. So this coused my inflammation and ingery. Stay safe and ONLY what feels good!

By holding weight or your body under tension for 1 minute +, you are building muscle. Don't over do it as you need time to heal the micro tears.
