- The extended version of my wildly popular "25 Min Optimizing Hydration" video.
Here I cover:
◾ How to "optimize" your own hydration
◾ How much water to drink (hint: the whole "8 cups a day" thing, that's all nonsense)
◾ Why your diet may be causing you to need more water
◾ How to test (i.e. personalize) yourself
◾ Why optimizing hydration matters
◾ How hydration works (physiologically)
◾ What & How much you sweat
◾ Sports drinks & electrolytes for hydration, good or bad?
◾ I'd appreciate support on patreon: / andygalpin

I found this through Huberman lab. This was a great help. Thanks Andy. I'm heading to part 2. 👍
Kool Moe Dee - “How You Like Me Now” was the very first CD I ever purchased way back in 1987. Thanks for that throwback!
A tip for people like me who find it hard to simply drink water, buy the bulk packs of inexpensive bottled water. While this may not be the best option to "save the planet" , I have no problem drinking water if I can just grab and go. And I keep a couple bottles by my bed so I drink water when I wake up instead of straight to coffee. Without a pack of bottled water I notice I go back to my default habit of barely drinking water
Can't wait for part II. Awesome job !
My hydration strategy has changed over the years as I've aged, now 63 with a more active bladder. I hydrate in the morning and early afternoon and never in the evenings. Any water in the evening or before bed results in too many wake ups for pee breaks.
Also on the bike on long hot rides, I have to stay way ahead of hydration, because it seems that my ability to "catch up" late in the ride by drinking more is reduced. The flip side of aging is that power output is reduced, resulting in less generated heat and calorie burn, so I can go longer (but not further) on the same hydration and caloric intake.
Such an important topic! I have always felt that hydration and sleep are the most under-valued part aof a successful training plan! Thank you for this! Brilliant!
Hey Andy, awesome video, really appreciate it.
Chino XL.... dude you got me with that one. I’m definitely gonna spread the word now though
Thank you Dr. Galpin
Wow! Excellent video! I remember back in old school TKD classes I would attend in New Orleans in an old building where half of the time the AC didn't even work we rarely took water breaks. We would be drenched! For some reason we thought that would make us tougher! Now we know better! Thanks!
Andy Galpin - you truly are the godfather
Thanks Andy :)
Thank you Dr. Galpin. where can we get the sources?
Andy, I am curious your thoughts on electrolyte replenishment during training for MMA athletes who are going for 2-3 hours (and most likely sweating a lot)?
Anyone know where to buy an osmolality tester like show in the video?
This video made me thirsty
What are those hydration devices called?
2ND! First goes to the cutie reading this ;)
Gollie
Have you any knowledge off Precision Hydration -
Kool Moe Dee! ❤❤
Am I tripping on the fluid intake graph? 35C is way hotter than the vast majority of people spend all day in. Is it just that any cooler and the graph levels off?
A cursory glance: Sawka and Montain (2000) is titled "Fluid and electrolyte supplementation for exercise heat stress". Borderline inappropriate in the context of general hydration.
Should we be consuming sodium and potassium in our water on the day before a soccer game ?
Holy crapperonni
Well we know one person, so far, is dehydrated...
It’s 44 minutes
