Film about a storm rider washed ashore.
What is the price of freedom? Paul Johnson sailed the world all his life. He loved, drank and lived foolish, never truly living on land. Now he is turning eighty. Both him and his boat are unfit to sail. He drinks a liter of vodka a day and contemplates his life, his death. What is at the end of such a journey? Is there loneliness? What is the relationship between freedom and selfishness? Does fulfilling a dream always have a bitter end?

Paul Erling Johnson, a respected sailor and designer of boats, was born in England in 1938. He died on June 28, 2021, aged 83. A world-renowned sailor, builder of boats and frequent caller on Bermuda was recalled by friends for his motto in life: “Never be afraid to be terrified.”
I met Paul in Cariacu once. He invite us in his magnificent boat, and told us so many stories of his life!
He had the heart of a true artist, and he was also an alcoholic.
Stay away from alcohol people. 💙

I had the privilege to live and work around Paul, he was one crazy mother fucker but a wealth of knowledge! I worked on S/V Breath out of St. John USVI and got to get to know this legend first hand! Wouldn’t give up that experience for anything!

I can’t wait to see the final cut!! I was very fortunate to sail for 3 weeks with Johnson on Venus back in 2005. I lived aboard a wooden ketch (Prana) for 3 months in Tyrel Bay in Carriacou, and many of my fondest memories are of long conversations with Johnson, sipping rum, sailing with his cat Woozle, listening to Pink Floyd and Winnie the Pooh on his little cassette player, painting watercolors, reminiscing about his incredible life. He is an original. When I tell people about him they are typically in disbelief.
I’ve always hoped that someone would document his story in film.

I purchased and viewed the film immediately.
This is a beautiful depiction of one of the most authentic individuals I’ve ever met. Johnson is living art, and your film captures his essence, as well as the influence and relationship with the wonderful people and nature of Carriacou.
I will definitely be viewing this again and sharing with others.
