@benson Benson That is NOT fact. When you add up the fact that boxers get a much greater share of PPV and are allowed their own sponsorship deals it is not even remotely close, there will be some low ranked boxers making more than some fairly well known UFC fighters because the UFC's business model simply put does not allow the fighters to make as much as they could be.

Good point. But you can't go by the disclosed pay figures. Those are just to make things legit with the commission. But, mma guys are severely underpaid..especially the undercard guys. You can't tell me that it is fair that the entry level UFC contract is $10 grand to show and $10 grand to win..and it used to be 6&6. That is really sad. But that isn't my biggest problem with the UFC. My biggest issue is how Dana White and his Zuffa buddies made him, Dana White, the biggest star in mma. It should be the fighters that the general public think of when they think of mma. But nope, they think of Uncle Fester - Dana White. In boxing, everyone knows who a guy like Bob Arum is. But they don't think of him when someone mentions boxing. During the SEG days in the UFC, no one even know what Art Davey or Bob Marowitz even looked like. But during the Zuffa era, Dana White became the face of the sport (well, the UFC side of it at least). Mr. Sakibara (sp?) didn't do it in Pride....it only happens in the UFC. Disgusting and appalling.

UFC fighters should be thanking Paulie. This is the reason the UFC doesn't want anyone even mentioning a Fighters Union, the reason the other major sport athletes get pensions and major portions of gross revenue is because they have representation. The fighters are the product and if they stick together they would receive what they deserve but the way things are they get a pittance of what they should get and if they complain about it they get punished. I know Stipe is a blue collar guy and likely loves the people and being a fireman but he should be making enough money that it doesn't make any sense for him to even think about going to the firehouse. He should have enough money to buy a firehouse for the city and pay for his own health benefits and not need to punch in at the fire department for medical benefits and a little pension. I am sure many other UFC fighters are working regular jobs too.

I dont understand why George is almost siding with Dana. He knows these contracts, anybody who is a hardcore knows how UFC PPV works.
It was exposed with Alistair Overeem’s contract.
Their model is just like the old music model back when ppl bought cd’s and records.
U dont get one cent unless the PPV does over 200,000 buys. In Alistair’ case he was guaranteed $1 for every PPV from 200-400,000 buys, $2 for every PPV from 400-600,000 buys and $3 for every buy 600-800,000.
These are how the PPV buys are structured in the UFC. Its a complete joke, in boxing the boxer gets money from the very first PPV buy and they get the lion’s share of the $30 the PPV costs. ( PPV actually costs $60 a buy but the satellite carrier or cable provider takes half of it, so that’s why its $30)
The Fertittas are non-union business operators, so they used their business smarts to create this model knowing they would get the king’s ransom and basically give the fighers peanuts, while dangling these discretionary bonuses to fighters like carrots.
I would estimate in Conor’s case he was able to start at $5-6 instead of the $1 per PPV above 200,000.
Anyhow, i just dont get why George is arguing with Paulie.

@@Insertnamehere287 that doesnt mean half the ppv goes to Conor. The PPV reportedly did 2.4 million buys and that doesnt include the gate and merchandise sales. So if Conor got around 40m, whatever his cut was whatever the fight generated, that's around 20 percent. 40-45m from the backend plus his base. It makes sense to me. No way Conor would come back without a massive backend profit, he just wouldn't, he made 98m from the floyd fight alone.

I recall don telling Tyson he had hundreds of millions when he was in prison Tyson looked into his account when he got out of prison and zero . Same with Ali Holmes Witherspoon etc . Expect fighters to go to court about this in years to come . The Ali act was brought in boxing so the non disclosure of pay wouldn’t be allowed . These guys ain’t rich their cars , jewellery ,clothes & homes are rented they live paycheck to paycheck just like normal everyday people & when you’re told your gonna make 80 million and you buy all this shit spending 50 million thinking you’ve still got 30 left & you only get paid 40 then they’ve got you become their slave to fight . He gave examples of the past, said that he wouldn’t win the Floyd match because of it, and he wouldn’t beat Khabib for that reason. He has every right to say he has no balls, and he has a valid point. It doesn’t take more “balls” to compete in either sport. Saying it takes more balls to compete in MMA literally makes no sense. A person picks a sport, and trains. Their level of determination is determined based on HOW they compete, not WHAT they compete in. “Making” it to the 10 round isn’t significant either, it’s all about the fight that was put up until then. Which wasn’t much, especially against the smaller guy who isn’t a knockout artist in the first place.

Paulie makes a lot of good points. Its weird with Boxing & MMA because besides the fact they are both combat sports, the natural evolution of the two sports have evolved into different animals. Boxing is made up of headliners with four major sanctioning bodies (WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF). Because of limited rules, the sport is allowed to be more organized with more proficient rankings. It also evolved since 1800's so it had time from generation to generation to learn from its mistakes. The criticisms of Boxing have been around for ages (best fighters ducking each other, bad judges decision) and will continue to go on for a long time. MMA has evolved into a monopoly due to smart business men who copied the blue prints from Boxing (since they were Boxing guys to begin with who got into MMA). With MMA being more of a dictatorship ran by an greedy ego maniac who has the resources to eliminate and buy out competition so they can be king of the mountain. However MMA is weird in regards to how it is as an entire 'sport' since MMA is made up not of sanctioning bodies like Boxing, but organizations that thrive in different countries. UFC / Bellator for USA. We saw Pancrase, Pride, DREAM, Sengoku, and now Rizin that thrives in Japan with a more pro wrestling rooted production style. While One FC runs Singapore / Asia. M-1 for Russia. Jungle Fight for Brazil. Various orgainzations in Europe, but Europeans have not adopted MMA entirely and have stuck to the tradion of Boxing as their main sport (Klitschko brothers, Anthony Joshua, David Haye, Lennox Lewis, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe remain Gods of combat sports in UK / Europe). So Boxing splits revenue with Boxers, managers, promoters while MMA is primarily organiztions with their fighters as employees rather than a big part of the revenue split except a few exceptions with really big names (GSP, Conor, Rousey, etc). If you are really deep in combat sports, its difficult to explain where Paulie is coming from to the average joe. But those of us that are into combat sports can see exactly where he is coming from. The problem is there is a term in MMA called 'the evolution of the sport' which progressed from a violent blood event to a legit sanctioned sport with rules, points, judges, etc. And the evolution took the turn to where the money goes to the one promotion - the UFC. It cant be changed tomorrow, the issue will be to continue to evolve into the money going toward the fighter one day. Even if you put Scott Coker, who all of us hardcore fans wish would have the same power as Dana, at the top of the mountain, it still wouldn't completely change tomorrow, but it would be a step forward in the right direction. If you guys are NFL fans, you just saw the New Orleans / Rams no-call which possibly could have cost Saints a superbowl trip. The relation between the two is that sports are not perfect. There are not perfect sports. Things go wrong. Things are not fair. Things are out of the fan's control. But you just have to observe, hope, and if you have any kind of power, do your part into making the sport into what you desire, wheather you want fighters more money or better judging or whatever.....

He seems spot on in this conversation. He's right! Mixed Martial Arts does need the Ali act inserted into the sport to financially protect the fighters. But boxing has b.s. also. The judging system is an absolute joke and this definitely turns people off to the sport when a good fight comes down to someone getting robbed on a decision. Boxers lose lots of potential earnings from poor decisions, not to mention the fact that most of these judges know nothing about boxing. Judges in any sport should have full knowledge of what their judging.

And he actually got $380k. The 30k was a payout he got as part of the Reebok deal. Not what the UFC paid him to fight. But nice try.
