    I see there are a lot of us next-generation Polish folks whose families spoke Polish, yet never taught it to us. My grandma spoke it when she didn't want us kids knowing what she was saying ... but not enough for any of us to pick up on it! I started learning Polish because it's a huge part of my heritage. Thanks for the great video.

    I'm Czech and I learn Polish as a hobby, because I noticed, that some films and series are translated into Polish earlier than into Czech. So I tried to watch a few of my favorite series in Polish. It sounded funny at first, but I got used to it, and now I understand it pretty well.

    I know this video is 7yrs old but thank you for this. My dad was Polish and he came to the U.S. when he was 8 with my grandparents... he passed away when I was 10yrs old. I regret not being interested in learning Polish when I was little... my mom is Mexican so I grew up in Mexico and my 1st language was Spanish and then English. I only learned 'Good Night' in Polish as my dad always said that to me when I was ready for bed so I retained that for all these years. Now, I want to learn Polish and this made it easier to start. Some of the vowels and consonants are a bit similar to Spanish. One day, I want to travel to Poland and know words and phrases. I have 2 sons too and my youngest (he's 17) he is soo interested in learning Polish because he has some Polish blood in him. I am just happy I found this channel to start. Thank you.

    There is really no such thing as "Polish in 3 minutes" as represented by another series of Polish lessons provider. I personally found your lessons approach much more helpful to beginning learners. You are more structural in that you begin with Polish alphabets and that helps tremendously for an English speaker to conceptually *transition* into the Polish or Slavic linguistic mode. Your pronunciations are also *slower* to allow students to emulate you in as correctly pronouncing Polska alphabets as possible. I can't imagine learning another Indo-European language of which Polish is one without first learning the alphabets, the vowels and the consonants, as well as the general rules governing their intonations. Because you take the time to teach it right, your lessons are very effective and the clarity of your lectures really stands out. Thank you! Although some other series are also well intended I am sure some other learners may find them more suitable to their language acquisition endeavor but as for my part, I am going to stick with your series. I speak Polish pretty fluently (i am of polish descent and my parents are both polish) but reading and writing has always been much harder. This helped me combine them and I'm getting better at readying polish words.
    Also, (I'm not sure why) I pronounce prąd more like prod (english sounding 'oh' sound) and the 'ę' sound more as a 'eh' sound. Maybe it's the area of Poland where me and my family are from and we have a slightly different accent.

    Hi,
    I hope my comment will only help :)
    Nasal vowels are pronounced differently whether they are isolated or in a specific consonantal context.
    We pronounce with nasality when isolated, before fricatives or in the final position of a word
    BUT
    when before certain consonants nasality of appears in an additional consonant sound
    e.g. before = /om/
    = /bombel/
    = /zomp/
    = /kompiel/
    before = /on/
    = /sont/
    = /montfa/
    ...and so on, and so on ... I haven't even started
    It is simply against the basic diction rules to pronounce it in a different way
    I recommend some consultations or a deeper dig into the subject :)
    cheers

      I live in Kraków and I will never say /montfa/ NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always say MĄTWA, ALWAYS SĄD NOT /SONT/. This is very controversial. Maybe in Warsaw they say in this way. So I think the lesson is very good and leads in proper way. Cheers.

    • @malgosn
      @malgosn Před 8 lety +2

      teaching the language is always about the standard pronunciation in the first place, not regional.

    • @jacekplacek8274
      @jacekplacek8274 Před 8 lety

      +malgosn Standard pronunciation should prefer beauty of language. Langage is living.
      MĄTWA - is like fresh seefood

      No.. No... she is right very difficult to catch the sound, so many words are silent in speaking but do exist in the words, if are they silent in speak then what is the need to put in the words, thank god! english do exist in the word, at least one language which get us connected to each other.........

    ¡Thank you so much for this! I'm trying to learn polish and I wanted something like your video, you know... explaining the pronunciation of each vowel and all that stuff. Been trying with apps but they only gave you words and pronunciation. So, again, thank soooooo much for this. ¡ITS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! :D
