  • Josh shows you how to clean the spark arrestor on a line trimmer.
We recommend using a torch to get the best possible cleaning. An alternative could be using a wire brush.

Works brilliantly on my Stihl 55RC. The spark plug spanner is the correct size to remove. Thank you and a thank you to whoever in Stihl used their brains while deciding what size to make the arrestor.

Thank you for this video it fixed my Echo SRM-225. My trimmer kept stalling/bogging down when giving gas, cleaning the screen fixed the problem and it now runs like new.

Also when screen is removed , the hot oil can drip on your hand ,so like the man says , wear gloves, just in case.. good advice

Old video but hopefully I can get an answer. It's probably a dumb question but I just bought an Echo SRM-225 and was wondering if I just took the spark arrestor out completely......would this void the warranty?

I have an Echo SRM-225 . It doesn't want to start for me so I brought it to get fixed. The repairman told me I'd need look at the carburator and it wouldn't be worth it for me to have him fix it. I have now replaced the fuel lines and cleaned the carburator and replaced the gaskets. It still doesn't want to start. The primer fills with gas and it sounds like it wants to start but can't turn over. Any ideas on what it could be? What do I need to look at? Thank you in advance for your help.

You can get a replacement carb on eBay for under $10. I have replaced several and had no issues

Spark arrestor stops hot exhaust sparks from leaving the trimmer, thisvstart being mandated in California in the early 70's, it just a law nothing important.. he is right it will stop the bogging, but the unit will create a slury of unburnt oil

@@markfernandes2396 So clean it...It still runs better without the arrestor.
