- Today, I have the Lauten LA-220 FET Condenser Mic in the Audio Hotline Studio! In this review I also include a GIANT comparison including 7 microphones.
MICS INCLUDED IN COMPARISON: Lauten LA220, RODE NT1, RODE NT1A, LEWITT LCT 440 PURE, 512 AUDIO SKYLIGHT, AUDIO-TECHNICA AT2035, TANNOY / BEHRINGER TM1
I want to give a big thank you to Lauten for sending this mic over and allowing me to do an honest review of their microphone.
Check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!
TWO THINGS I WANT TO MENTION:
1. I AM ABSOLUTE GARBAGE AT SAYING LAUTEN CONSISTENTLY, MY TONGUE GETS CONFUSED OR SOMETHING.
2. On the mic and in the documentation their mic name says "LA220" but online it says "LA-220"... I am not sure which is right, probably doesn't matter when you are searching it, but it is odd.

Hey thanks for the review, I’ve been very curious about this mic. The clean electric guitar sounded PHENOMENAL, everything else sounded respectable. I like the hi cut feature on this mic, too, it’s actually a good option to cut some unnecessary high frequencies at the source. Keep up the great work and entertaining reviews!
I actually preferred mic D in the speech blind test. Surprising considering I normally find the NT1A to be too sibilant and sharp. That LA220 lacked a bit of low-end for my test.
Mic sounds clean man. Good review bro
Just got this mic and I love it! Got a great deal on it too.
Great review, and BRO, Im totally cool with rocking a $300 mic. Seriously though, I own the NT1 (love it), and this one reminds me of my Neumann TLM102s I have. Ill pick one up now from your review!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoy the LA-220!
Love dem kitties!
You shouting at the shotgun mic made me LOL - thank you!
Lauten’ are super Great!!! Really superior stuff :)
Great review as ALWAYS... they All sound sweet and unique... Love The lauten, though; check out the Lauten LA 220 V2...Pulled the trigger on her recently, SHE'S AMAZING! VINTAGE AND MODERN SOUNDS ARE SUPER VERSITILE!! Has characteristics of NEUMANN and TELEFUNKEN! SOO SWEET..
ROCK ON
I think it holds its own. The filters could save a little time for some.
This thing is awesome!
Hi, please make a review on Shure SM27!
😂 I love these reviews!
I really like the Lewitt. Top focused but clarity is lovely. I liked it so much I got a 441 Flex. Same sound with multi polar patterns. I'm surprised at the build of that one given the price.
Wait so that mic is exactly the same as the 440 just with multiple polar patterns?
Well, it has two capsules. Not one, so it’s not exactly the same. Having multi polar patterns can be very handy for different situations unless you only use it for one thing. If you only want a cardioid, the NT1 might be a better bet.
@@levi8781 Pretty much. they have a tiny bit of a different sound due to physics with having two capsules attached to each other. But honestly, they might as well be the same sound wise. They have a bit less bass but that also makes them to me a bit more pleasant especially when you are using that proximity effect. It's minor tho.
Sounds great. Lauten clear. Yeah I said that stupid thing.
microphone isnt expensive until it's $3000... BRO
seriously though there's some really good mics in the sub-300 price range: Rode NT1, Lewitt LCT 440, Warm Audio WA47jr... I wouldn't mind owning any of those
The Lewitt and Lauten sounded best.
this test actually made me smile... because I followed the test...
mic D, E, and (surprise...) G sounded cheap to me, and... surprise surprise... it is not the TM1 !
LOL, the TM1 actually sounded pretty great...
I try not to change my initial impression, because knowing which were which can affect our judging...
but after listening again, E sounded cheapest :D
exactly this D,E,G sounded too much artificial bright
As of Oct 16 this mic is $239.99 on Amazon
Review at4040,,, ❤️❤️
I think this is a bit of a dangerous zone for a high end brand like Lauten to step into. Their US built mics are outstanding in both build and sound quality. I feel that the 220 does not align very well with their image, it feels like an OEM mic from china that is priced slightly higher than it's supposed to. It's certainly not a bad mic, but it doesn't feel like a Lauten. I think it's better to do like Neumann and make a slightly more expensive affordable mic that retains the same quality as the rest of the line.
That said, hats off to the cheapest mic in the test that did surprisingly well!
I am 64 years old. I Suffer from Tinnitus. They all sound the same to me.
Lauten isn’t hard to say unless you have a speech impodement
I guess I do
It was hard for me to pronounce it the same the whole time. The act of saying the word wasn’t hard. My mind would go back and forth between:
law-tin and lau-tin for some reason. Probably because I have heard different people say it both ways.
"Impodement"
Ironic
@Audio Hotline I think you missed the wordplay gag my friend. Check the spelling 😀
You've been doing great these reviews wrong the whole time.
