  • The Ghost of Castle McCarr. The Scottish highlands provide the setting for the search to continue, but where exactly is the next pearl? The only place left to look is the distant castle, which is said to be haunted. But ghosts aren't real - are they? This episode was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 6th February, 1990.
Provided you're of a certain age, the first thing you'll notice when watching this one is that the nice Dora who helps Sally on her quest is quite clearly Supergran. I don't know if it's a good thing or not for someone whose IMDB credits include Lady Macbeth and Desdemona to be so indelibly seared into so many memories as one particular relatively daft character, but I suppose it's better than the alternative.
Anyway, there's always a spooky episode in each series, and this is it this time round. It's nice that the Gory Story Hour (almost) makes a welcome return, while T-Shirt being scared out of his wits is always funny. Notice that when the moment hits, he doesn't think twice about deserting Sally in the middle of all the danger! Without giving too much away, the ending is part Scooby Doo and part Wizard of Oz, but not quite what I was expecting at all. Meanwhile, I can't be the only one desperate to try the tartan custard offered at one point.
Besides Gudrun Ure, the other guest role is filled by Jeremy Stockwell. Going by his own website, Jeremy is very much a stage actor who also focuses on directing, speaking, and coaching of others. Interestingly, he's also listed as a puppeteer on both Spitting Image and Wizadora, and - knock me down with a feather - I think he's the Jeremy from Finders Keepers (as in, "Jeremy's Joker").
Look out for a little Children's ITV continuity at the beginning featuring Jeanne Downs on some sort of quest of her own.
Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.

Loving revisiting this classic show. Forgot that Supergran was in this episode. I love Georgina Hale she's great actress totally hamming it up. She's great in the episode of One foot in the Grave too

Yes, that's Kellie - she was in series five and six of T-Bag, plus one of the Christmas specials.

VideotapeFTW I believe it is Clare Buckfield who played Jenny Porter from series 3 onwards.

By all means, feel free! (Not that I could stop you, but I really do appreciate it when someone asks.) Just one thing: if you mean the first episode of the 1986 series, you've picked the video with the worst picture and sound quality on the whole of my channel! Perhaps I could recommend this one from 1985 instead: czcams.com/video/Dh9tvmnD5Cs/video.html
Your choice, of course. You're more than welcome to post a link to your vid in the comments of the original once it's uploaded. :-)
