    I'm a little confused, he doesn't want to support animal flesh farming, but he's offended to know he's still supporting the same practices in when he buys any animal products? He even knew about the cruelties in the dairy industry already. So confusing. Why is abuse ok in one instance, but not ok in another?

    Tough/awkward conversation and in all honesty I empathise with this guy as I came to vegetarianism in a similar manner. Through meditation leading to a felt deeper connection, rather than watching any documentary or ethics debate. He's in a transitional period, and no doubt where he is now already feels like a huge shift in mindset and lifestyle, so hearing someone tell him 'that's not quite good enough' is a tough pill to swallow. That said, unfortunately it took me another 2 years (and a vegan friend enlightening me on the egg and milk industries) before I went fully vegan. So as uncomfortable as it was, hopefully this conversation planted a seed with him that will lead to a transition to veganism in less time than it took me.

      There's no "fully vegan" or "partially vegan", there is just vegan or not vegan. The point is, that vegetarianism is not different from meat eating. Eggs & milk come from rape, torturous conditions in confinement, systematic murder & kidnapping of new born males. And after all of that the females get sold and sent to the slaughterhouse too, so there's truly nothing good about vegetarianism. People trick themselves into thinking, this is a step by step thing, but it's not. You don't even lose much. There's still 7+ different types of milk and scrambled vegan eggs are also a thing. Honestly it's stupid to go vegetarian, after hearing about veganism.

    I see this as good enough isn't good enough. The man has cut out 90% of the animal products most people consume. Yet he is seen as just level as us normal meat eaters in your eyes. There was no acknowledgement of the steps he has already taken, you basically told him all the work he has done is pointless in your eyes.

      Watched once, skimmed a second time, at 3:35 you said "I love that". Though this was in response to his motivations, not the work he already did.

    It's certainly not clear if farmed animals are worse off than wild animals. I also can't imagine farmed animals agreeing to genocide as ending farming would mean the end of their species..A hard one to figure out..

      So you think species existence is important for its own sake? Would you agree then since animal agriculture is the single biggest cause of biodiversity loss and species extinction that the right thing to do is go vegan?
      also farmed animals going extinct isn't necessarily entailed in a hypothetical where everyone stops eating them. The ones left over could live on sanctuaries and just exist for themselves rather than for human "purposes" as they do now. Similar to how your life is yours to do what you want with, animals want their bodily autonomy as well.

      @@MrTheoptimiser Well I'm not a fan of the term bodily autonomy as it's used to mean the opposite of what you'd think such a term would mean.
      With that said, I think it's disingenuous for anyone to claim they are speaking for farmed animals, even their end goal is to see them completely eliminated, or mostly eliminated. I can't imagine if these animals could speak, they would agree with such a fate.
      Maybe there's an argument to be made that vegans are speaking for the wildlife that would replace farmed animals, if we committed genocide against farm animals, but I've never heard that argument made.

      @bobhill4364 but can you appreciate that from the perspective of farmed animals that they don't want to be killed so you can have a 15 minute meal? If they could talk they would object to that surely?

    • @MrTheoptimiser
      @MrTheoptimiser Před 3 měsíci

      @bobhill4364 it's clear from their behavior that they object to gas chambers and bolt guns in fact.

      @@MrTheoptimiser Absolutely. The question however is compared to what. Whether these animals would prefer being well fed, safe from predators, in exchange for being used in agriculture is harder to say. I wouldn't assume to know the answer to that.
