BMW G310 R - No GoPros allowed during Test Ride. Are you to blame?

  • When I went over to BMW Tusker in Bangalore to take a test ride of the newly launched BMW G310R, I was told that GoPros were banned during the test ride. Apparently, BMW had a few unsavory incidents with people from the CZcams community who made misinformed reviews.
    And to a large extent, I think they are right because I see so many people directly comparing the BMW twins with the Bajaj Dominar or the KTM Duke 390 without understanding that BMW is a luxury auto brand.
    Well - so go on, listen to my rant and my first impressions from having ridden both the BMW G310R and the BMW G310GS.

    It's not just about comparing with other bikes. It's just that they've priced it like this only here. They've priced it lower than the Duke in UK. So they want to be premium bike only in India whereas they've priced it as a budget bike in Uk. That's why i think no one should buy that.

    Here's an argument to tell that the G310R hasn't been priced properly here in India!! I've seen other videos where they've told that the G series bikes have been priced lower in other countries than India even when the bike is being manufactured in India!! Does that even make sense!!!!

    Dude you forgot to understand one thing the Same KTM Duke 390 in US costs 100$ more or approximately same price as BMW. And why its only in INDIA its a premium brand and why not the same case in US (You understand it by seeing competitive price with KTM).
    Note that all that the BMW 310 R bikes are shipped from INDIA and still they costly in INDIA because they cannot have bike at same price as TVS bikes. BMW is just making us pay more than what they truly deserve.

      Raj Gajbhiye, exactly! And why the hell are they running from competition? Sure the brand is a premium brand BUT that doesn't mean you can just ignore your competitors! Duke 390 is a clear competitor, check international reviews please.
      And savant my man, comparing Toyota corolla and a Mercedes Benz is definitely not right, but compare a Toyota land cruiser and a Mercedes SUV. That's how this BMW and ktm comparison. Call me a ktm fanboy idc. :)

      John K Bijo 100%agree with you and if bmw believes that they are premium brand then they should not sell this bike at cheaper price than ktm duke 390 in other countries as well, the fact that they are selling this bike at cheaper than duke 390 in other markets take away its all premiumness for me in india

    • @gichanLive
      @gichanLive Před 6 lety +3

      Agree with you as well. Both are similarly priced products in international markets, and I believe BMW could've priced it more aggressively here in India. And it looks like in most markets the BMW is actually priced lower than the KTM.
      His point of brand value still stands though. While most of the money is for that BMW badge, I can see this will be an easy decision for the both sets of customers(the ones who want to buy it and the ones who'd look value for money). Give me similarly priced Sennheisers and Beats, it will be the former any day, for me.

      Agree. And KTM is priced 200 to 300 USD more than BMW in the US market. And KTM and BMW both are considered premium. Just cuz of good built quality of plastics doesn't make the bike premium. Performance also should be premium. As per international reviews and few indian reviews KTM engine is punchier and more refined. BMW is just taking advantage of naive people

    I know people have their perspectives, and I respect that too but to me yeah G310R 'IS' a premium product.
    And also I've heard that it has a 10000km service interval, which indicates how good the build quality is.
    With that kind of build quality I don't think we can really can expect it to be cheap.

    I don't get why you are trying to justify their act in the first place. Is this some sort of return gift that you are giving for them allowing you to test ride the bike?
    This is an arrogant brand and deserves no future in India. They also kicked out Rohan Albal of PowerDrift during the Auto Expo 2018. Sheer arrogance. Not sheer riding pleasure.
    First, they make an underpowered bike which can't match up to the competition. It can't even hold its own versus the RR 310, forget the KTMs.
    And then they go ahead and overprice it in the home market itself, even though it sells cheaper outside.
    And then, they say wearing riding boots is compulsory for the test ride, as if they are giving us some 1000cc bike that will yank the life from us.
    And now, they ban action cameras because people are spreading the word that the bike is no match for its competition and is just overpriced in the name of brand

  • @chandlerbing8531
    @chandlerbing8531 Před 6 lety +2

    BMW cars and Toyota Corolla or Cruze can't be compared because BMW cars provide a larger engine and much more features than the Corollas or Cruzes, and that's why they're pricier. I agree with the 'premium brand image' thing and no one expected the bikes to be priced as equal as a Dominar or the Apache 310RR. Even though, BMW is offering the same engine(just a bit retuned), and no extra fancy features which deserve a huge 3.5L price tag.
    In the end, people with money who want a 'premium' single cylinder bike are gonna buy it.
    From BMW perspective, if they would've priced the bikes starting from say 2.5L ex-showroom, people would've bought them on a large scale, cause, you know, a BMW in 3L. But then the bikes would be as common as the Dukes, losing their premium brand image. And in the industry, brand image is very much important.

      Yeah. Internationally the naked is priced at par or even below the 390. Build quality without tech does not warrant such a big premium. And yes India is a price sensitive market and people like me want the beat value for the money we spend.

    Savant life, I personally feel BMW should have stayed with their twin cylinder big bikes instead of producing single cylinder ones. I don't see anything wrong in comparing g310r with Duke 390. I am sure the old 390 can take on the g310r hands down and yes, the quality issues are a factor when it comes to these brands and BMW has an upper hand. But paying 4.2 lacs for a single cylinder produced in India, 300cc and has less features compared to its competitors? Idk man. If you are buying it for the brand BMW, it's fine. If you are looking for a good motorcycle that fits in your budget, trust me you have better options. And sorry to hear tusker motors didn't let you record the test ride. Shows how insecure they are with their product.

    There were so many haters for bmw 310 twins. If you can't afford it then why talk shit about it. Plus looking from bmw point of view, it's their cheapest motorcycle on offer. A brand which used to sell motorcycles at 20+lakhs is now selling a motorcycle at 4lakhs. It's pretty reasonable.

  • @loneridermukesh2928
    @loneridermukesh2928 Před 6 lety +1

    Sir, you are saying everything sensible except taking the example of iphone for g310(s). Because Iphone is at par with tech, speed and experience. So, such price is fine for iphone. But talking about g310s, they have no much features to price highest in the segment. Now, talking about Brand value and blah blah non sense seem illogical. People loved BMW only because they have been making best in class, ultimate and unique machines in the market, in every aspect. However, this time also they made a different and good vehicles and there is NO denial to that. But not even close to best in segment, to price the highest in the segment. I know that you will say Versys is the priciest of all. But that price is only because of non-localisation and pack of accessories.
    Anyways, I think BMW is trying to save business because they know that the bike is not worth that premium price. And they do not want brand specific buyers to know about that. And FYI, they never said NO to any such Go Pro test rides in Western countries because there they have a reason for putting the price (non-localisation). Here they simply want to cash the brand sentiment of buyers with that price for such mediocre motorcycle.
    Anyways, you sounded offensive to people who use the term "BRO" in their comment.

    The BMW G310 is a great naked streetfrighter for the gentleman or for someone who's looking for something a little more conservative. That's always been the case with BMW Motorrad's design ethos since the 90's. I wish they could have carried over the asymmetrical design from some of its bigger siblings like the F800 R from 09'. Is the premium pricing for the exclusivity?? I don't know. Great effort from BMW Motorrad.

      Even I was dreaming abt those asymmetrical headlamps haha

      Those asymmetric headlights are the least BMW could have done to actually justify the price tag.

      The Savant Life You are right about the premium pricing and exclusivity. However, informed motorcyclists tend to see past brand logos. BMW bikes are not the most reliable on the international market or even the easiest to deal with when it comes to claiming warranty.

      Totally agree!! BMW's in the past had a shaft drive and the exhaust unit aswell was on the left side. Don't know why they went down the conventional route. Some USP was expected from BMW to make it stand out. It would have been a segment first in a small capacity bike and certainly would have justified the higher asking price.

    Totally disagree.. You should be even pissed off that they didn't gave you a test ride with gopro ...... And FYI chevrolet and Toyota are better than those Germans.. In foreign market too.. And if you are so much in love with BMW(showing so much sympathy) get rid of that reliable and trusty fz and buy a g310r shit.. Oh yes I forgot how badly you criticised x blade..
