The duralast sealed ratchets are a great choice. I have the 3/8in and 1/2in and use them daily as a professional automotive technician. Strong, smooth with ease of use, hard to beat for the price.
I only have older usa tools craftsman old husky old kobalt Williams thorson easco sk otc etc etc etc but my daughter for my birthday she saved up some money she's 5yrs old she bought me 3/8 stanley Taiwan rachet she apparently got it at walmart .... Never the less I had to use it cuz I didnt want to hurt her feelings so I start using it . it felt nice the grooves fit nicely between the groves of your finger I stoped and gave it a double thought so I took it apart greased it up and man it feels nice its been two years now and feels good its kinda my go to rachet for everything now . then when I need another one I use a different rachet but for a shade tree mechanic or a diyer I deffenetly recomend that cheapo stanely rachet works great
I bought a Craftsman tool set to take on mobile jobs and to the racetrack. The satin finished round head ratchets were total junk! I was at Walmart one day and saw the Stanley ratchets. Though they were Taiwan made, they felt solid. Much better than Craftsman's usual quick release ratchets. Though I don't use them daily, they have seen some hard use and have held up just fine.
Kobalt makes most of there mechanics tools in the us Nevada actually
Check out the Duralast 3/8" head ratchet it the 1/4" body, you guys will love it - Part #73-868
I can vouch for the 3/8 Stanley 91-929. Numerous brake jobs, bolts-ons, oil changes, used as a hammer a few times. Hammered on the handle with a sledge instead of using a breaker bar. Still going after almost 10 years. 10 bucks at Walmart back then, 10 bucks now.
Great job! I like the descriptive detail you included for each ratchet. You now have another subscriber. I'm more a DIYer and have older USA-made Craftsman stuff, some Tekton, and a couple of Harbor Freight items. Harbor Freight is not my main go to though. Since you included a handful of auto parts store ratchets you left out the NAPA Everlast ratchet. Keep up the good work.
Also nice selection of 1/4" ratchets to choose from. Thanks.
The Duralast is virtually identical to my Blackhawk BP-1214 ratchet that I have been using almost every day for over 2 years with no problems. It's quite a bit smaller than my trusty old Snap-On that I have used for over 20 years,
I think I'd take the Duralast out of all of those, but I use Tekton 90t ratchets. Although, the Tektons are more competitive with Snap On rather than big box stores.
Thanks for the great review. Even Dura-Last and Kobalt both looked very good.
Nice review 👍. Subbed
Good vid! ive got the craftsman 3/8 and ive gotta say i love it. The duralast looks very different to anything else, its another one i think i will have to invest in😉
I'm buying a set of those new Duralast ratchets because of the new design and I love the quick release. Honestly that Craftsman is a great option simply due to the low profile but they are also the most expensive
I got a complete set of the USA made Craftsman thin profiles ten years ago and they have been my go to ratchets ever since. I love the feel and the lefty lucie is nice and compact. They seem to get around engine bays like no other when it comes to standard pattern ratchets.
I have a pair of Craftsman linesman pliers that have a date code (C) inside the handle. They don't have soft grips or any chrome left but they are the sharpest, strongest and straightest pliers I have!
Its unfortunate that they cut the quality of the ratchet and had the audacity to ask more money for them. They're nowhere near as good as they used to be.
That Duralast 71-420 is the best, use it everyday NOTHING comes close to it in terms of size… always looking for more of these and the 3/8” drive version….
Are there a spring under the gear grip
I like the Duralast model, head looks like Blackhawk 1/4" model. Kobalt use to be OK but I think all the new current stuff in manufactured in China V Taiwan like their older stuff.
I like the old Kobalt tools as well, I actually have some old USA Kobalt sockets that I will be comparing to Snap-On soon I use both very frequently. Kobalt tools were my first tools of choice!
What about Allied stuff, there pro grade line? 🤔
Just collected the warranty on a Stanley 1/2 inch . Went on the web site and called the 800 number and it was in the mailbox in less than 3 weeks. Great company Stanley!
I'd like to get the Duralast 1/4" & 3/8" if available. The small heads would be nice for all them tight spots. Can you get them online or just go to the local Autozone?
Can't find the duralast ratchet. Where can I purchase one? Autozone website shows different part number.
for those of us that don't know sears-craftsmen does own the patent to the locking mechanism it was a landmark case the maker sued sears n lost because he worked for them
wish you would have put Carlyle in there
Right on spot. If you can't walk in to a store and buy any tool then it really doesn't apply. If you want to compare tools out of special trucks you can do that.
That small head Duralast is something else! It can actually be more comparable to a Matco 1/4 drive ratchet. Not bad! 👍
I'm a fan of Cornwell ratchets because I was able to get two five-gallon buckets of them for free in 1982 before they were melted down.
I’ll be doing a tool review on power torque, Duralast, Gearwrench and Pittsburgh 3/8 drive socket set in the next couple of weeks. Stores AutoZone, Orielly’s, Advanced Auto Parts & Harbor Freight. Hope you tune in.
Which store carries gearwrench?
Stanley has a new professional series pretty much sealed. i recovered it through warranty, honestly one of my favorites and I'm a cornwell guy.
I need to check this out! I also hope that they are available at Walmart
I wish you would have looked the Carlyle ratchet. They have some amazing tools. I'm still waiting for that Duralast ratchet to hit my store.
You're right I should and will, I think we still have a NAPA here. The last time I went all they had was Evercraft tools lol! Stay tuned for another video!
Noah R yes I actually buy a lot of Napa and they're really nice. Cheap too! this month $10 for the 1/4 slim teardrop and $15 for the 3/8 I measured it come just under an inch
hi i have a new craftsman ratchet that so far i love model #2072 its low profile and just feels good in my hand works very well so far i find myself using it over my s-k I've had for 30 something years
Duralast are strong as F. Read a destruction test of a number of common ratchets and their 1/2" drive ratchet didn't break until nearly 900 ft lbs.
had a screw fall out of both a husky and a HF. unable to find correct screws. never had that problem with my craftsman and its circlip.
You should inspect your tools before you use them. If you see a screw backing out tighten it up. If still keeps backing out a little blue loctite takes care of the issue.
I once broke a Stanley 3/8 ratchet and found out it had a lifetime warranty, so I called them and the lady asked where to send a new one to, I asked if they needed the old one sent in and she replied not to worry about it. The new one was the black finish, it was a little stiff at first but worked well for what I was using it for.
That's good to know, at least they didn't give you the run around and you got a working tool.
A good comparison video.. thanks for posting. cheers !
My experience Duralast and Standley something I stay away from. I rather get tools from Taiwan than China if US not available at a price point. With that said the Harbor Freight Pro line isn't bad. I like the Kobalt ratchets and torque wrenches, time will tell.
I like the Harbor Fright General Moa ratchet
I have duralast tools I run a shop in Missouri and about a year ago I ordered some duralast tools and use them everyday and haven't broken one yet they are very good for cheaper tools
I would like to have had the Craftsman head with the kobalt handle (my old job required tight areas, must have lost several inches of skin off my knuckles throughout the years, and those extra teeth would have been nice).
Craftsman for life
Craftsman and husky are the best looking .
I like the duralast for the 1/4 inch ratchets you have there. Sad cuz I'm an old craftsman guy before they decided to put profit over American jobs, that is. I have a thin profile 3/8 craftsman but not sure if it's made in USA or not. I'd like to grab one of those duralast with the 3/8 anvil in the 1/4 inch body. I don't mind German or Taiwan stuff but hate seeing a company leave our shores just to make low quality stuff.
On the other hand Tekton who has almost always been a Taiwanese tool company now make their new line of pliers and cutters here in Kansas, so that's awesome. They aren't over priced either most between $10-$15, with a lifetime guarantee. Take a picture and email them and they overnight a new one to your door.
I love old Craftsman tools! Keep your eye out for more videos, I'll be making some talking about the very same things you just mentioned! Tekton has been stepping up their game and I like to see that. As for your Craftsman tool it is safe enough to say that if it is the older model and doesn't say then it's not made here, otherwise it would be a matter of looking.
if it says L-AE on it its made in Taiwan
Knox i picked up a metric wrench set from tekton....i have the anap on short pattern metrics but needed something longer....they are really decent ...good chrome ...and the tolerances are great...today i grabbed the duralast double box end offset. In metric.....they have gauranteed for life engraved into the wrenches...i paid 30 ....no skips....id recommend them ...
I have a really nice 25" Power Torque flex head ratchet... great for suspension bolts. ...I like it alot.... Think I paid~$40 for it....4:00 Tekton and Craftsman have these made in the same Taiwanese factory...I have the Tekton one... they're exactly the same..... except Craftsman uses a retaining clip...Tekton uses screws...
9:00.... Really nice.... handy micro- head ratchet....👍
4:10... Tekton sells that exact ratchet for $15..... nice review....
now 20 for the 1/4 in , 25 for the 3/8, 32 for the half inch ...
The Stanley is chrome vanadium and does have a lifetime warranty.
Yeah but they’re very sloppy and low tooth count. The rest of their socket sets are fine but the ratchets are a joke
That Power Torque looks to be a rebranded Crescent ratchet, Which are excellent.
Thomas Celentano I have a Crescent 3/8 with 75 tooth. It has slipped under high torque but I got it used and never cleaned it until yesterday. I am hoping you are riggt because it operates very smoothly otherwise and I didn't realize dirt would cause a ratchet to slip.
Hey Secretkoopa can you make a CZcams video on who makes the best 3/8inch drive ratchet
A company out of japan called nepros makesa very high quality ratchet...in the us ...snap on holds the title
I like Mernders masterforce and Lows Kolbolt. The only chaftsmen I like is pre stanly black and decker. Hart combo werches and swerc divers are nice. I 🇺🇸🏒🐧😎
You should add Gear Wrench to your reviews to....Thanks for the video's!!
Gearwrench blows all these POS ratchets out of the water
Gear wrench and Tekton are more competitive to the tool trucks.
@@CenturyofTerror that craftsman 84t is quite literally manufactured from the same parts. It's just a gearwrench 84t with a quick release which I prefer. Shame they're so hard to find anymore with Sears being such a mess. None of the stanley craftsman's I've looked at come close.
Quick release means quick to rust teeth!
that duralast ratchet is the same as blackhawk. and I also have a performance tools one that is the same. the husky and craftsman ratchets have the same design because the same company was making tools for both as well as Matco and armstrong. so they all have that design.
I thought Craftsman had a new 96 tooth version out, and what about Gear Wrench? I like the Kobalt and Craftsman still even though the quality has gone down some, and Craftsman might sell the use of there name to Black & Decker / Stanley, check out the info on it almost a billion dollar deal
Did AutoZone discontinue that Duralast ratchet already?? I went to their webpage and couldn't find it.
Last night I bought the 1/4" and the 3/8" drive Duralast ratchets..my theory is they can't keep up with the demand
Can you give me the item number from the 1/4'' ratchet you bought?
71-420... I actually had to go look at the ratchet because I couldn't find it easily on Auto Zone's website. What is going on there?
That's the same boat I was in. I too physically had to go to the store to buy it.. I absolutely love it, it's an instant classic! Thank you for your help
FaceWindu sealed heads are the way to go... this style sucks... and is weaker
No Carlyle?
To me looks like the majority of the ratchets have the same body profile. Wonder if they are hurt rebranded for different companies.
thanks for info....i have a stanly tool set that about 10 yrs now...it was made in taiwan...it was nicely made..and still work. Now i bought a emergancy car tool one which is stanly ,, but made in china....i can feel cheaper and loose material inside. I hardly use the one inside the car...but the at home one i like to grabe it first....hey the chinese bussiness model is that if it doesnt brake they stop making profit. But what the heck im not a hard core mechanic...just a do it yourself guy. I regret not buying craftman tool set when it was made in U.S.A....but i was a kid and can not afford that....lol Now i understand why my older brother craftman tool looks so little , but cost 2 or 3 thousand dollars.....now i know....hahahahha
kevin Leeparker, that's exactly what I'm talking about! Stanley has taken a dive but the old ones are tools that you can rely on. I like it! As for the kit you keep in your car you might want to put a bit of time into making a purpose built kit to keep in your car, it doesn't have to be big, it only needs to handle emergencies you might come across
Stanley make husky and powerbuilt
I bet that husky would beat a snapon
I feel ya I also hate tool company's going out of the US just too make tools
Stanley ratchets have a black plastic switch that rotates the pawl. They're junk.
I've read the comments and I would like to know WHERE I can go and buy AMERICAN made tools and ratchets? I live in Phoenix, AZ. Please give me the address of a store I can walkin and check out and the feel of the tools. This is 2019 and I'm really not interested in those great tools that you have or used and they no longer make. Today is today.
what about Titan ..?
I like thier stuff
anyways I would spend another 15 $ and get Proto/MAC
Laser etching? really?
Snapon mac then your major parts stores deal with it us people who spend that on tools make our livings by them lol craftsman doesnt hold up to snapon yes it is Wareantntable but not if its broke all the time. Broken tools dont fix broken cars
Stanley has a lifetime warranty. made by Apex tools...
Stanley is made by Stanley Black and Decker. Just like Craftsman.
Tekton and gearwrench are better then all Those.
I've always bought USA made Craftsman ratchets for the past 40 years, even gave some to my buddies as presents. But the China made Craftsman ratchets with the plastic reverse lever are junk. Too bad Sears chose profits over pride & quality. Doesn't Sears realize people who bought Craftsman throughout the years are willing to pay more for quality Made in the USA tools????
I will be making a video talking about these very same things!! But keep in mind that plastic is lighter than steel, I know when going to a job a lighter tool box is always better than a heaver tool box with the same tools inside, don't get me wrong I want my tools to feel sturdy and last and I don't think that plastic selectors are better than steel
It wasn't Sears that chose to move production overseas, it was the manufacturer. Sears actually requested that U.S. made tools be kept available. The brothers who run Danaher, the manufacturer at the time, chose to shut down the American plants to save a buck. They later sold the tools division, named Ames manufacturing, to Bain Capital. Bain just closed the last two U.S. factories and fired the workers to ship production to China. Sears is not my favorite place in the world, but they are not to blame for this. Get your facts straight.
A Profit Gurua has take hold, Stanley now owns them maybe a better quality will be coming?
Agreed, on the other hand, I was surprised to find recently they sell re-branded knipex cobra sets for a good price, win some loose some i guess.
GM
The reveiws on ratchets have been done
Why do you so much 1/4 ratchets 😁
Snap on the best.
Looks? I want tools that function and last and are easy to use with a lifetime warranty at a reasonable price. Who cares about looks? Also, whats the torque rating before the pawl breaks? Because nobody EVER misuses or puts extra leverage on a ratchet. I find the flatter handles to be better in tight places, they don't rotate in your hand.
Stanley owns snap on
false
The duralast is the best the rest of these are not good ratchets ratchets are the one tool u shouldn't cheep out on...
Craftsman? more like Crapsman.
Do Harbor Freight!
bullshit there is no best ratchet or best brand, best tool is depending what you want do and depended from requiment! for only one bolt loose or thigt it's never required have heavy snap-on, for aircraft engine dissamble you can forgot simple tools too.
do the tool your job? less cost+less weight+enough quality+ work well then it's done. to take a heavy snap-on to loose fifty M5 bolts you only move heavy weight nothing else.
you never use 1/2" or 3/4" or 1" size ratchets for a M5 Bolt too? the perfect tool is whos do your job in best possible and that nothing to do with brands!
Why limit yourself to a bunch of imported Taiwanese and Chinese store brand ratchets ?
If you want a good quality 1/4 ratchet get yourself a $27 100% US made WRIGHT tools 2426.
It's the smallest headed American made ratchet you can Buy today and their contour grip is unsurpassed.
Definitely don't buy the crappy Chinese Craftsman ratchet for the same price.
Where can one buy Wright?
Who gives a shit how thick the ratchet is? Irrelevant with functionality and reliability. There is no quality on that table. All you need to say is “ like anything else you get what you pay for”. You buy crap expect crap. You want quality, don’t be cheap buy quality.
