*dude lays down the most beautiful and soulful performance for the next century*
"bravo. alright bobby"
that condensending tone - horrific
Y'all are reading way too much into Scott's voice haha, he's just very laid back.
@@kaspartambur do you mean the piano or the guy? lel
@@Johnoooh ofcourse the piano! :D , good playing, even better show hosting, but that grand really... really brings the hope down for humanity!
@@kaspartambur XD all about them good vibes
Bobby: *Solves world hunger, achieves world peace and prevents climate disaster*
This guy: "Bravo" lol
"Alright Bobby" 🤝
"thanks so much"
Yes because whoever listens has there SOUL fed lol
He really appreciates it
Exactly how I felt hahaha “bravo!”
Favorite parts of this performance for me are how gently he lays down some of the passing chords. Keeps me hooked when the melody takes a breather and add a great contrast that has me leaning forward a little.
You can hear that he is feeling the rhythm and not counting it, which really conveys the vibe
I would like but I kind of want to keep it at 420. Soz.
Edit:nevermind I'll like now.
Edit:hi me again from the future things are pretty swell from this end
Totally. All about the subtleties of his touch And L
shows how important dynamic is.
He's playing from his heart, not acting as a machine ,that's the human touch no machines can match already .
He pouring out more than just his soul, he pourin out all of Georgia's too.
Back when my dad was alive, he would always play the piano in church every Sunday. And I tell you, not because I was his son, but I sincerely believed he was one of the best musicians I have ever known. The way he played the piano was super similar to the way it was played in this video. I swear since I heard this piece I couldn't help but jerk a tear since it reminded me of him. I still remember the days he would bring me to work when no one was available and he would be playing a beautiful grand piano in the middle of the gigantic hotel hall and he would let me sit next to him so I could see what he was doing. Every note he played just seemed to have a purpose, like his fingers would dance and the note would play with them. If he was still alive he would've loved this piece and would be explaining the beauty of it nonstop. I do wish I could hear his playing again and my only regret would probably be that I never bothered to learn the piano like he did because he would've loved to hear his son play just like him or even better. Though his legacy would be there since he was the one who taught me how to sing.
Rest in peace dad. May the angels dance with your music like everyone did.
That was so heartfelt and absolutely beautiful 🥰💗🌞
It's never too late. If you have the time, look for a good teacher and start practicing!
Such a beautiful comment. Thank you.
The host: Bravo! Alright, next.
That's absolutely beautiful ❤️
It's never too late tho! Music is one of the only talents a human can learn just as fast at any age. It takes a 4 year old 7 years to be a prodigy kid at 11, but it takes a 34 year old person the same 7 years for the same level of playing at 41. Don't give up on your dreams! (Especially not if you can already sing with it ;) )
-your friendly neighborhood music teacher
How is he putting so much music in his music.. daaamn
You said it perfectly
There's so much music per music
That man certainly is doing a whole lotta musicing
His music's music has music in it
the harmonization in is harmony is so harmonious
The lyrics for Georgia On My Mind were written for Hoagy Carmichael's (original composer) sister and I don't know how I feel about it
"Stuart Graham Steven Gorrell (September 17, 1901 - August 10, 1963) is best known for writing the lyrics for the song "Georgia on My Mind". " wikipedia
b.15 - no Fb in the left hand.
This is not true lol
@@aumenarys Gorell wrote them for Carmichael’s sister but they’re so ambiguous many interpret them to mean any woman or the state of Georgia
@@aumenarys wrong. Aretha Franklin's great-grandmother's ex boyfriends cousins best friends middle child, Lee Morgan, wrote the lyrics and sold them to Mr. Gorrell for $13.
This was so good, I love how he could embellish the shiz out of every beat but he chooses not to and just does little 8th notes and chords that just sound so tasteful, gosh. Thank all you transcribers who have this talent to immortalize such marvelous performances
Absolutely sublime. Every beat is fully milked and my God that harmony is lovely. Hats off to you for transcribing this so well though.
Just here to say that Tony Williams transcribed this, george just created the video.
Good catch
Ok, i agree, But why tf you say milked? Is that an accepted term I'm just ignorant of?
It was like he was soloing on the piano and being his own accompaniment, delicate, graceful, precise. Beautiful
Just damn. A channel so big, I don't think Mr. Collier will ever see this, but I just wanted to say thanks anyways. This channel has been so amazing showing me so many spectacular performances and performers that I don't think I ever would have stumbled upon on my own. I honestly never thought I'd hear someone play _this_ song with more soul (or at least about as much as) than my favourite piano player ever (Ray). Consistently the music on this channel is just sublime and I, and I'm sure everyone else in the comment section, just cannot thank you enough for all the hard work that goes into finding and notating these videos.
I have people to help me notate (Tony Williams did this transcription) - finding the videos is the hardest part...
@@GeorgeCollier yeah I always love the music you pick. I've always wondered how you pick, is it just stuff that you personally like and catches your attention or is there more criteria the video has to meet to make it stand out?

This was transcribed so beautifully, it was really comfortable to follow along
I learn more every day. I could actually see the circle of 5ths being used in the changes. Very nice, I can't read music, but just improvise over the head chord. (Rock/funk bass player)
Am I the only one who imagined hearing the late great Ray Charles singing along with this incredible solo? 🎹🎵🔥
The best piano players I've seen always look like they're "singing" the notes. Like, their faces change in reaction to what's being played and they're engaged fully in their sound
You can see from his face how he is focusing all of his soul's energy into playing this piece.
Absolutely impeccable control of dynamics, every note hits at the exact velocity it needs to be to convey the emotional energy intended.
This sounds so authentic…I could literally feel the emotion
wow, you felt the emotion? did you also hear the music? did you also see the video? did you also taste the salt?
@@radadadadee did you also read the comment?
@@radadadadeeI could taste the saltiness from _your_ comment
Thank you for adding the blue vertical bar! It makes it easier to follow along.
So much ornamentation but he still keeps that stride rhythm with the left hand. So full and beautiful
I had the opportunity to play with Bobby Floyd back in 2011. It's probably not surprising given how much soul he plays with, but he's just an all-around awesome guy to hang out with. Very generous with his time with young musicians.
I can barely read sheet music for 1 voice on a good day, I just watch your videos for a perfectly curated feed of music clips. Keep up the good work!
Bravo 👏
Thanks so much
I really appreciate it
Alright Bobby
mmyeahh, bravo, aright bobby
This is gorgeous. The perfect use of dynamics, the space to breathe left so the embellishments hit harder....this guy is a master of his craft.
I'm just a dumb drummer but I can still appreciate the skill and mastery on display.
Don’t sell yourself short. You are a musician!
Don't be beaten down (pun not intended) by the ones that consider drummers "dumb." (Former drummer, concert and marching band, had to give it up due to back and wrist problems.) I was in school choirs, too; held back by the lack of singing ability. I'm not tone deaf, my voice just isn't that great.
My brain could never connect the notes on the score with the tones I should produce, so I learned by ear. (Which is why I couldn't learn the other percussive instruments like marimba/vibraphone/xylophone... And why the heck are we using handbells in marching band? Oh yeah. "Edelweiss.")
Learning-by-ear sucked in high school, because I was situated next to someone completely tone deaf and mostly monotonous on my right, and the entire soprano section to my left. On the plus side, Freshman year when my voice failed at the end of the Winter Holiday concert, I WAS able to sing Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" in Soprano 1 - to the shock of my Algebra teacher's daughter standing next to me. LOL Good times...
I'm a pianist myself and I can tell he has years and years of experience. At least 20 years.
And if you think being a drummer is dumb, check this shit out. czcams.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/video.html
can definitely tell this guy plays organ, i actually haven't heard a lot of these runs on piano before and it was a treat (it's a treat anywhere obviously he's sick at this)
He is a world class organist
Thank you for the info. Something was a little odd to me about his left hand planning of the chord, i fond it a little staff if i may.espetially compared to his beautifull fills. I gess it's from this organ background too.
Hot damn, that Bm7 at 2:38 is spicy
I love how you put the sheet music on the screen if someone wants to learn the song
this video needs two watches, the transcription on its own is a WHOLE nother thing going on. incredible to hear all of that detail and to notate every little thing
All I can say, is that I wish I could do this. I can’t but am still so happy that others have been blessed with this musical talent so I can at least hear genius. ❤️
The chord progression alone is fkn phenomenal.
a lot of those old songs have interesting chord progressions. check out 'darn that dream', 'my foolish heart' , ' for heaven's sake', and of course, you probably know 'all the things you are' , although all those songs are older than 'georgia'
@@jimmythebold589 I know half of those songs via Bill Evans, but I'll check out the others :)
Time time time. The constant walk of the piece keeps you grounded to let the rest of the music fill the space. Rubato is overused sometimes, not at all here. Excellent control of the movement of the tune, not too far ahead, not dragging the pulse.
Privileged to live in a city where I can see this guy play every Sunday
"Allright Bobby, Bravo."
Very nice transcription as always! Nice job!
Really thumbs up to your layout of content. Like how this song is composed. Speed and fingerplay,... amazing.
His smooth and warm play melts my heart!❤ Thanks for uploading such a beautiful play with perfect transcription!!
You always come through with the goods. 👌🏼 love your work george. This is fantastic
An absolute devotion....Can't thank enough for this.
Made me drop a tear. This was just beautiful. The harmony is excellent.
Simply beautiful! Thank you, Bobby Floyd!
Simply beautiful. All that needs be said.
Beautiful playing... and I can't get over the bright quality of how good that piano sounds
man. this is just so gorgeous
3:23 glad to see he made it onto the sheet music.
I love the little bass cleff change in the middle of the treble staff, then back to treble again. Ive seen it in music I play, but its rare for me to see. Gave me a little smile and reprieve from this mans amazing skills.
Such clarity on those tuplets... Amazing!
this is so beautiful... we sure he doesn't have more than just georgia on his mind?
Thanks for throwing the chords up top, as I struggle to read sheet music still. I immediately picked up my acoustic and played along.
I love that you add the chords as well. fantastic
I uses to live in Columbus and got to sub for Bobby on a lot of local gigs. An absolute legend and the kindest person you will ever meet!
Feels like I've gone to church again today! That was beautiful!
I want to thank you for posting these incredible videos because I would not have found them otherwise. That's not even me mentioning how much effort is put into transcribing the music...
This is such a beautiful piece with tenderness!
That is SO SO fine! Talk about SOUL . . . . ! Thanks for posting, I thoroughly enjoyed that!
I love the Real Book style of the transcription. Excellent touch 👌
This... this is beautiful ❤️

Absolute goodness, thank you!
Skill and passion rolled into a excellent rendition that ranks right up there.

Amazing! Thank you so much!! My nightcap for this beautiful day!
This is one of my go-to ballads
The bittersweet feeling of loving that and wishing to be able to play like that.
Stank-faced through the entire song. This guy is magic.
You know it's good when you get goosebumps and the performance nearly brings you to tears because it's just so good
This is so amazingly beautiful that I lost my breath ❤️🔥
Georgia on my mind is one of my favourite pieces and this was played absolutely beautifully
Perfection in both melody AND phrasing. Holy hell.
Uploading this with fingering and such accurate notation is highly commendable work.

Thankyou
Wow now that's beautifull and fabulously soulfull !!!
The piano guy youtube channel started already 16 years ago, and I remember me watching such videos at that time when there was almost nothing on youtube.
Is that all you got!? Whew!! So good. Beautiful.
This is incredibly inspiring 🙃
My soul tingles while listening to this!!
This is the most beautiful thing I heard today 🤩🤩💘
wow!!! beautiful!!!
loved the blue line, i always try to follow the playing and get lost, really helpfull
Bobby Floyd! So great. His Hammond organ stuff awesome. Somewhere is a clip of him while on tour playing a church organ somewhere in Europe that is spectacular.
Once again George, you have discovered treasure. Don't know how you do it.
Bobby nails every nuance of Ray Charles, and a few others.
I feel every note. Love it a lot
i really like how you put the notes at the bottom, thank you
Merci, that was sweet.
Bravo! All right, Georgy. :)
Such great TIME unaccompanied. Great playing. Wow.
Was amazing, thanks a lot
0:52 I absolutely love this bit
Gorgeous!
ive never seen such smooth playing
I wish this kind of thing came so naturally to me, if I could just play like this so smoothly and effortlessly, I could listen to it for hour, even if it was myself playing.
check out the book 'effortless mastery' by kenny werner. it's about learning to enjoy music instead of putting ego-bound restrictions on one's enjoyment of it...(there's no discussion of music theory or technique, it's about the philosophy of playing and taming the ego)
Excellent!!!!
