That was like my favourite part of the whole gimmick. The fact it was completely psychological and he was basically broken. It annoys me that detail gets over looked all the time.
@@KevynKing The commentators and other wrestlers acknowledged that he "really was physically scarred", though. Calling him ugly and stuff like that. Definitely could be interpreted as them exploiting his mental state, though.

awesome character, and I bet wwe would kill to have a guy like Sean around now. Now all they have are cruiserweights and a handful of actual heavyweights
When I first saw O'Haire in the latter days of WCW, when he was paired with Jindrak, I literally thought the dude was gonna' be a can't miss stud on athleticism alone. He was a hybrid of what was to come, but with WWE/Vince preferred size. He was definitely the standout of he/Jindrak(though Jindrak was passable)......so of course they tossed out a cool gimmick that O'Haire had and made him a nondescript heater for a 50 year old and released him in short order....while they had Jindrak tapped for "Evolution" initially and then paired him with Angle and he had a decent lower midcard run.

That time Dustin Rhodes debuted as 'Seven' in WCW after weeks of hype and immediately trashed the gimmick. Very similar to what happened with Emmalina.
If anyone saw Kizarny outside of the WWE they'd understand. But what killed his gimmick was they had him beat MVP in his debut. At this point, MVP was in the middle of a 'losing streak' and was losing everything, his entrance was changed, his personality was becoming more humble and he'd garnered a lot of sympathy from the crowd which would wind up turning him face. It was at that moment the crowd was no longer rooting against MVP, but for him to succeed. So Kizarny interrupting that kind of buried him on the spot. In many ways, the same thing happened to EC3 when they brought him out to try to continue their burial of Dean Ambrose, but the crowd was sympathetic to him and wanted him to succeed so weren't going to cheer for EC3 whom they saw as McMahon's attempt to bury him on the way out and make a name off him as a 'newcomer'. That buried EC3 as well because Vince blamed HIM for the crowd not being behind him against Ambrose. The same way Kizarny was blamed for the crowd not getting behind him vs MVP because Vince doesn't understand why audiences can be sympathetic to a wrestler he's shoving into such positions. Also if you need to ask why potentially successful gimmicks were dropped because they were getting over (like Dashing Cody Rhodes and Paul Burchill's pirate), it comes down to one thing. Vince didn't believe they 'should' have gotten over, therefore he had them dropped. Thats why that 'brass ring' is imaginary. Because if wrestlers DO get themselves over, Vince either buries them, drops their gimmick, or never capitalizes on it till the crowd eventually loses interest and then Vince blames the gimmick for having a 'short shelf life'. Truly sickening tbh.
God I sometimes forget how good Cody Rhodes was in WWE, the man deserved more but frankly seeing him go on to make his own company with blackjack and hookers (or is it WWE with the MVP gimmick that has that?) means that it truly did all work out in the end.
If I were writing for Kevin Steen “Owens,” the first thing I’d do is harken back to one of Bret Hart’s most underrated storylines in WWF. Hell, bring back The Hitman to be like an on screen manager. Have Kevin be a heel in America and a baby face in the rest of the world. Then, assuming you want to make money, you can bring in guys like David Hart Smith, Davey Boy Smith Jr and Brian Pillman Jr to put together a new, effective Canadian stable along with another young non-American wrestler you might want to push. Bret’s endorsement still carries weight among true wrestling fans. It would be big to see Kevin and others with The Hitman behind them. But that’s a very basic idea. It doesn’t take much thought and I’m no genius, clearly.
I know this may be kind of a stupid opinion, but I'm STILL surprised they couldn't just let Owens use his real name, Kevin Steen, & just package piledrive everybody like he did when he was in PWG & ROH.
