Some say Brush Knee Twist Step and Embrace the Tiger Return to Mountain are the same but in different directions. Let's see how I explain this with their applications.

Thank you very much! I am getting a great deal from these videos. Hopefully I can transmit my understanding to my students.
I've heard it said that it takes a village to raise a child. That's how I feel about Tai Chi Ch'uan. It's a work in progress. Peace.

    Very good!.
It is true that they are visually very similar movements, but one works with a "straight" orientation and the other "circular".
There are four other movements in the framework that also raise such doubts.
First, 斜飞式 Xie Fei Shi and 野马分鬃 Ye Ma Fen Zong.
And second, Peng/Ji within 拦雀尾 Lan Que Wei,
that also have a similar appearance.
It would be great if you could explain the differences.

There are classically accepted applications, and then there is your personal interpretation. We must all humble ourselves and add to the greater body of knowledge, lest Tai Chi stagnate and die. A renown teacher of Tai Chi once told us that we should find fifteen applications to each posture. I agree with him, Tai Chi Ch'uan is not a destination, but a journey.
      Peace

Straight line vs. circle. In Embrace Tiger, you can also move the front foot (which becomes the back foot) to trip, use arm bar, etc., but it doesn't show in the form. Thanks for these videos!

Thank you so much for your recent videos. I know it is a lot to ask, but if you like this idea I would love for it to come true. Could you teach the form piece by piece in videos? Show the opening move... talk about it in depth then in the next video show the next move in the form and talk about it in depth? I would really love to learn.. I'm just nowhere near anyone who can do real tai ji. I would love to study and feel what the true form is. Thank you for what you have done so far. I really do appreciate it.

In embrace tiger we practice with the right, leading lower palm turning up as we sink forward, high left hand pushing/overturning the other person. As the movement was explained to me, it is carrying the duifang's kick. A throw is what I expect as well, though your throw is a little different. it seems to be a bit of a "split" in your demonstration, but it makes sense. to me, as this often comes out in push hands.
