    Subaru’s renowned technologies now include a new ‘driver assist system’ called EyeSight. EyeSight is a second pair of eyes that monitors the road ahead and recognises potentially dangerous driving situations.
    Using three-dimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the front windscreen, EyeSight™ provides audible and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action. Apart from these built-in functions, EyeSight will also apply automatic braking intervention, when necessary, to help avoid or reduce the severity of a detected frontal collision.

    Very informative video. I have kids (22 and 30 years old), that don't give a shit about safety, when driving. All they care about Apple car play, Pandora and SiriusXM. They don't want to hear or read the vehicle manual.
    Thank you Subaru for keeping my grown children safe.

    My main love is adaptive cruise control. I've had my Gen5 since 2015, and in the 3 years I've owned it, EyeSight has never given a false brake. It has given a couple false alerts, but has *never* falsely applied the brakes.
    Twice it saved me. Once, was a pedestrian who ran out in front of me, and the car started braking before I was able to react. The second time was a car that pulled out in front of me. Once again, the car was already applying the brakes before I had my foot on the brake.
    I'll *never* own another car, other than a Subaru with EyeSight!

    I have a specific personal experience with EyeSight on my US-model 2017 Forester which deserves conscious recognition by other EyeSight drivers. I had gotten well used to the situations in foggy/frosty weather when EyeSight recognizes that it is "blind" and shuts itself off with a dashboard warning message. However, I was most surprised to experience on a long summer trip that one smashed insect in just the wrong place in front of one camera, can make EyeSight "blind" without it realizing it, and without any shut-off or warning message. The only symptom was that cruise control did not sense any car in front, even when there was one. My recommendation is, be very aware that the "clean windshield" warning includes bugs.

    The eyesight technology buttons located below the rear view mirror inadvertently light indicating system is off and cannot be turned on, Thus, deactivating the features, although the symbols,on the dashboard , indicating that the system is deactivated do not appear. Thus I cannot tell if system is on or off much of the time. The indicator lights under the mirror will spontaneously turn off, activating the system and the features will begin to work again. How can I solve this problem ? The problem is the system turns off spontaneously. I cannot identify any pattern to this problem. When I press the buttons , and hear them beep, the system will not turn on.

    I have a 2020 Forester. Does Eyesight record video or just a series of JPEG stills? If it records video, can the owner access it, and how? If it records video, how long is the loop before overwriting? I currently have a dash cam positioned so as to not interfere with Eyesight, but if I could access Eyesight video at will, I remove the dash cam. Thanks

    • @Grant-du8ix

      I know that this comment is a year old already but I think that you probably still want an answer?
      I do not know about the eyesight features from 2018 and older but for what I now from the 2019 models and up, Eyesight will only record videos for (if I remember) 7-10 seconds before, during, and after you hit your car badly. You cannot access it and I guess that in order to access the video, is to ask for it from Subaru. Yes, the subaru is recording everything but for only 7-10 secs.
      So, if you get into a car accident, it will save couple seconds before, during, and after the accident and that's it. There is no option/trick to change it.

    I found the eyesight system in my Outback a pain. Mild offroading, thought I was hitting objects so applied the brakes. Driving in the dark, suddenly flashing red on the dials thinking I was about to hit something, and no, the lenses weren’t dirty or obscure. Id rather not bother with it, in fact my Impreza doesnt have it.

    This system is so complex it can't possibly be used under those driving circumstances that would make it valuable. It makes too many noises in a car that already has too many noises and too many warnings that can't be understood without referring to the ridiculous and incomprehensible manual. You simply can't use this system and drive a car, except on an empty road, at the same time. There are simply too many variables, except on an empty road, that will confuse this system while giving some drivers a false sense of security, thinking they don't have to pay as much attention as they used to or become more skilled at things like accident avoidance due to unexpected behavior of other cars. Either you make a car completely self-driving or force drivers to learn how to drive better and make road test longer and harder, including adding tests at certain ages, say 65, then 75, etc. This system is in between those two options - it is dangerous and pretentious. I have regular cruise control but might be FORCED to lease a car with this complicated system - that I don't want! I consider myself excellent in the use of my current system and am extremely angry at having these features forced on me!

    Beware of the Subaru Eyesight system. I am a naturally late breaker and 1 week after owning my car I approached moving/merging traffic and the car system slammed on my brakes causing a lock up. The trailing vehicle driver was unable to react quick enough and crashed into me. I experienced several similar types of braking situations which prompted me to off load the car. I now have a new Audi Q5 with no such braking intervention related issues.

      @brandonb.5304 Před 5 lety +6

      @@Richard-tv5cb Naturally late braker? Meaning you like slamming on the brakes? Seems it's your driving that needs an overhaul, not the Eyesight system. As long as you have your foot on the brake at a reasonable distance from the car in front of you, the system does not slam on the brakes. You were likely going way too fast and approaching the car ahead at a speed that would cause a collision without the system. Don't blame it for your poor driving.
