You cannot know if a team is exposed until you see what happens in the following games ... e.g., if the 9ers whip the Eagles, but then the Eagles go on to win the rest of their games them they just had a bad game. However, if after a 9ers victory other teams then followed a similar game plan to successfully beat the Eagles and the Eagles lose several games that way, then you could argue the 8ers exposed them. You cannot determine that from a single game.

Acho has a solid take. Exposed means demonstrating a fundamental weakness in the eagle's game that cannot be corrected without a fundamental change in scheme or personnel. The matchup in this game susceptible to that - on paper - is 49er offense vs eagle defense. (The 49er defense is really good and so is the eagle offense; the 49er offense is really good and eagles defense bottom 3rd). If the 49er O is able to have its way with the eagles D - as they have done against better rated defenses - the Eagles are exposed. All the data says that is likely to happen unless the Eagles disrupt the timing of the 49er pass game and simultaneously contain the run game. If it happens and these teams meet again, the Eagles will be forced into more radical game planning that attempts to introduce some randomness into the outcome, or suffer the same fate. The irony is that - contrary to the whining about "lack of respect" - the only reason everyone isnt declaring the Eagles exposed now is respect for the Eagles and a sort of "faith" (not born out in their play) that they will find a way to kick it up a notch on D.
Shady acts like Shanahan and the 49ers haven't reached the Superbowl in 2020 or back to back NFC championships. Shady doesn't want to admit the 49ers are on par with the Eagles even though the 49ers are leading almost every statistical category compared to the Eagles this season. Shady and Joy make it seem like these 49ers are some scrub team. they will be speechless come monday

Yes, this, this is exactly how to define it, wtf is James Jones even talking about? Exposed for that week? That doesn't make sense, getting exposed means people thought you were one thing, but then something happens and now we know the truth about you and you actually are this other thing, hence you have been exposed.
Unless one of these teams blows the other one out and then the losing team just gets smoked the rest of the year with their opponents using similar gameplans, no team is getting exposed here as a whole, now a specific weakness could get exposed, but not the whole team.
Then you've also got Joy calling out Acho for his hedge take which was also awful. If you get blown out you get exposed, but if you win the SB after it just means you weren't the same team by that point, but if you don't it's still because you were exposed. The ultimate play to make sure you can never be wrong, analysts/journalists LOVE doing it.

Not winning isn’t getting exposed. It’s very clear how both these teams play and how they win, and why they’re at the top. It’s why there was so much excitement for the NFC game last year, and again this year- even for people who are fans of different teams.

I don't think any of them have the correct definition of a team getting "exposed". Although I'm certainly capable of error, a team getting "exposed" is specific. A team gets "exposed" only when their opponent executes a gameplan or scheme that exposes a weaknesses; in which other teams may apply to beat them.
Furthermore, a team can be exposed entirely, or a specific level of a defensive/offense, a scheme, and/or a player can be exposed by identifying and executing a counter or attacking a weakness.
That exposes a yet undetected or unexpolited weakness, absolutely sir.

The only scenarios I can see of either team getting "exposed" is if Purdy plays worse if one of the key pieces on the offense goes down (like the Browns game) or if the Eagles give up a bunch of passing yards in a loss. This is one of the better discussions I've seen on this show. I love how it demonstrates how important it is to have established agreed upon definitions before discussing a topic like this. Shady and James had completely different meanings for "exposed", and both made excellent points (as did Joy and Acho).

That doesn't make sense. Everybody wants the pretty high flying offense and tough stifling defense in order to be considered the best. Not the team that has won the most of the last 2 years. I remember before the Cowboys played the 9ers, they all said the Cowboys were the better team. Then, the 9ers blew them out, they all changed their opinions on both the Cowboys and the 9ers. So, isn't that considered "being exposed"? Of course, there is always an element of being exposed when you lose. If the 9ers lose to the Eagles, people are going to say they are a great team, but they can't beat the best team in the NFC. Doesn't that count as being exposed to a degree? But she’s not wrong. The New York giants in 2007 were not better than the patriots. If they played 10 times the pats win at least 7 times. Quite a lot went wrong that game. That’s why in other sports they play series and not singular games. Because it reduces the effect of random variance that’s present in all sports. The team that wins a 7 game series is probably better. Winning a singular game does not mean you must be better.
