  • Suunto has a reputation for making conservative recreational dive computers. Their new Eon Steel Black is their competitor to high end technical diving computers, and I will say I'm impressed. It is easy to use, has tons of excellent features and with the ability to use Suunto's Fused RGBM2 algorithm OR the more standard Buhlman algorithm for calculating NDL, Time to Surface, etc. it really is a powerhouse. Now everyone has their personal preferences and features that they need/like, so it is always good to talk to a local professional to get a full breakdown to find the dive computer that is right for you.

Excellent review! Upgraded from a watch style computer to an Eon Steel with a POD after a lot of research. You have confirmed I made a great choice

Just got mine and love it. I have been using the Garmin Descent Mk2i. The Suunto is just more customizable. An epic computer.

@@DivingSports Love it Big Time. Clear, bright, 100 % customs down to the algorithm and sub info on screens. I did put on the bunge strap which is a much more streamline deployment.

@@paulclissold2677 Have you added custom modes yet? ;) When you plug it into your PC you can change the different modes to have specific settings for whatever dive you are doing. So when I'm technical diving I like to have it setup in Buhlmann with certain gradient factors to more easily match other divers around me, but sometimes for recreational only diving I'll switch to another mode with different info and using the RGBM mode. It's very convenient!
The only thing I've found about the bungee is that if it's a bit snug so it doesn't move around over the drysuit, it is a bit rough on the cuff ring while getting it on and off.

Great video… do you know how to switch from salt water to sweet one ?

Great question! As of right now it doesn't seem to have an option to switch between salt water or fresh water. It doesn't make a very big difference, but most computers tend to be calibrated in fresh water as it will give a more conservative reading. There are some that give you the option, but not that many that I know of.
