      "mini", but yeah cheap hobbyist garage size lathe that can do reasonable quality and challenge is not to use lathe to make lathe, but basic hand tools, stick welder etc that everyone can get their hand on for really cheap. Lets call this "poverty lathe", but bit better than using drill and its chuck.

      mini lathe are very hot topics on youtube and internet ! old lathe are inexpensive and cost the same price as Chiness minilathe (5Kusdol or €) .... i prefer an old big lathe who gonna last more years than Chiness minilathe . My POV is mini lathe is interesting only if you wanna high accurency the only pb is the price my friend ! the only solutions maybe is DIY mini lathe with home made parall granit bar home made rectified on your free time + refurbished airberaing from silicon industry + concrete quartz molding for the body take a look to Dan Gelbart czcams.com/video/sFrVdoOhu1Q/video.html you gonna see thaht high precision mini lathe does not do the same job as an old big lathe.

    Sorry for ugly English

    This is not strictly a boxer engine.In the case of a boxer engine, the opposing pistons must move in phase.In this engine, the opposing pistons move 180 degrees out of phase.In other words, this engine is not a boxer but a 180 ° V-type engine.
    But I think this work is great!

      @Darek80 Před 5 lety +5

      You are absolutely right.

    • @jwolf4523
      @jwolf4523 Před 5 lety

      boxer engine is slang for horizontally opposed engine which may run in phase for the gas application but is not necessarily specified. It would run either way I think bmw bikes had a boxer twin out of phase because they wiggled hard when you started them, I'm not sure..but, both piston rods could connect to the same crank arm. But this thing is horizontally opposed, or "flat twin" not V type which would indicate an angle of less than 180. Technically it's not even an "engine" without combustion it's a motor. It actually has advantages over crank having flat linear torque across the cycle. Whereas only about a quarter of a crank cycle is optimal in efficiency and friction. I love that he built an idea that i had on my mind years ago.

      @MicraHakkinen Před 5 lety

      It'd be horribly inefficient compared to an electric motor. Personally I think this video takes it exactly far enough, with it being an interesting piece of work in its own right. Stuffing it in a vehicle of sorts won't do it justice because it will underperform so badly the vehicle will basically be an overly complicated display case for it.
      And even if you were to increase this design's output, for example by adding more solenoids, I suspect you're also going to run into lubrication, clearance and friction issues once it starts delivering enough power to be useful to propel a vehicle.
      But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong because your idea does sound awesome :D

    You should do another video where you add a belt driven alternator to that pulley and use high capacity capacitors instead of a drill battery. Loved the video btw keep up the great work.

    Fantastic work. I don't wanna be "that guy" but technically it's a flat V configuration as the Pistons are sharing a "crank" (or rack in this case) position. As they sweep left and right as a pair. "Boxer engines" are called boxers because the opposing Pistons have crank pins offset by 180 degrees resulting in the Pistons going toward the crank and away in sync. Like boxers bumping gloves.
    This video is still an exhibition of great fabrication work. Hey maybe this will give you another video idea.

    Nice video interested machine you made but
    1) wrong layout to be a boxer engine
    2) way too much friction in this machine.
    But I mean I don't think you made it to do anything but prove a concept.
