I am planning on making more Security+ videos in the future but I wanted to provide this one to give an overview of how I passed. Everyone is capable to passing the sy0-501 exam, it really comes down to how much effort you put in. Knowing how useful and important this certification really provides the motivation to put the work.

    What home lab would you recommend setting up to ideally practice comprehensively everything that is needed to pass the CYSA+? Obviously a computer with Kali Linux, Metasploit and Wireshark....what else would you recommend home-lab wise? I just acquired my Security+ so I have a way to go, but I would like to slowly (but comprehensively) be preparing myself for it.

    • @Ryan-om5yi
      @Ryan-om5yi Před rokem +4

      a vulnerable web app to practice offensive security is fun and helpful to re-enforce the theory, something like webgoat, metasploitable2, etc. But tbh you don't need to go that far indepth for CySA+, never mind Sec+. You only really need to be able to analyse outputs, recognise IOCs/attacks and make suggestions on mitigations.
      I would also recommend tryhackme if you're very new to some of these tools. It gives great instruction for your first time, then you can explore in your own lab after getting the basics.

    I'm looking to make the jump to security from QA/test automation. I have a CS degree and some limited experience in vulnerability analysis. Ideally I'd like to be in a pentest role, but would be interested in doing vulnerability management in a SOC or something where I get to receive/triage pentest findings or react to potential attacks. Would I be safe to skip Sec+ and go straight to CySA+ since I have relevant experience? I'm not too interested in Pentest+ as there are better pentest certs.

    I'm going for the Net+, CySA+ and the Linux+ because I'm doing a minor is cybersecurity for college. If I have these three certifications, I'll only have two do four other classes to get the minor. So that's my motivation! Also, if anyone is reading this and is going or planning on going for a Cybersecurity degree then you'll likely be required to get these certifications anyway.

  • @PHPresentsCG
    @PHPresentsCG Před rokem +2

    So the Security+ is a great foundation, while the CySA+ builds on it? Question, once you have these certifications, is adding another cert like the Certified Ethical Hacker worth it or is that just overkill at this point?🤔 Great video, by the way!😀

    • @sirxavior1583
      @sirxavior1583 Před rokem +3

      Security+ is a cert that tries to cover all security domains. Then the more advanced certs will be more specific to a certain security domain. Like the CySa+ is a cert specific to Security Operations or the PenTest+ is a cert specific to pentesting.

    I'm enrolled with a certain large online university doing my cybersecurity degree, and I've asked my program mentor to move all my certifications from being at the end of my degree plan to more immediate. I also pointed out clearly that I want my CYSA+ right after my Security+ which is the class I am doing right now.
    I've already done the A+ and Network+ and I have many years of IT experience.
    His response is that the CYSA+ is a tough one and if he gives it to me too soon then he'd be setting me up for a failure.
