- On this episode of For a Living, we meet Pastry Chef Daphane DeLone, who is leading the dessert and bread programs at West Hollywood’s Connie & Ted’s. Daphne went to school for psychology, but when a good friend pointed out to Daphane how much she loves cooking and that she should try culinary school, Daphne went in that direction and never looked back. Now she is the head pastry chef at Connie & Ted’s, a large, upscale seafood restaurant. Every single roll, bun, bread, ice cream, and dessert is made in-house by Daphane and her sous chef.

I totally relate to her challenges with being the only in professional spaces AND being in a leadership role. People love to stereotype Black women negatively as an excuse for their intentional choice not to respect them because they are a Black woman. I have lots of love & respect for those of us who are able to push through & get great work done regardless of this fact. And a great appreciation for those who trust us enough to lead ❤
Always the race card. The black woman today is a mess, Not all not all not all but most, To quote Jesse Lee Peterson.
Anyone can see this but not anyone is willing too. That might be the reason people try too keep them self away from black people.
This is because, absent fathers and terrible leadership in the black community.
Jesus Christ is our only hope.
I love this intimate glimpse into her daily pastry chef life! So happy for her to have found her niche and that she receives the acknowledgement she deserves 🤗
