- In this videos I remove, paint, and reinstall and seal my valve covers. I also use the ZSpec engine dress up kit when reinstalling them. Unfortunately I ran into 1 issue, I will address it soon, however, overall this went well.

No JB weld or other fix. The crack gap is not the only issue now. The gap is approximately how much the mating surface of cover is now deflected and not flat. In theory you now have a high spot that will increase the space along the edge of the cover that lessens the further away from the damage ya get. Get a replacement part and small value torque wrench. Kinda sucks,but as you said,You "don't want to have to do things over." Bite the bullet,spend the dough and take the time now. Good luck buddy

Faraz, my man… “I don’t know why everything has to be so difficult and it can’t just be easy.” Omg those are the most relatable words I have ever heard!! I have been there several times with the Z 😆
But that is exactly why in my previous comment I stated it would have beneficial for you to do a plenum pull and some of the simpler service work a long time ago lol it would have prepared you for this. I have some feedback for ya!
•Honestly it’s ok that it broke now because it’s better to address the errors now than later when the engine is back in the Z.
•Those intake valve covers NEED either OEM rubber washers (which are expensive) or Zspec silicone washers. The OEM ones that you removed are not reusable after 30 years of heat cycles. I saw you painted over some of the ones that were stuck on the valve cover and painted 4 others on the side.
•new rubber half moons are a great call, however the rubber will shrink, deform and deteriorate again after some time. BDE makes bullet aluminum half moons so you will NEVER have to buy them again.
•the VTC caps melt under normal use even on an NA. They will live in even harsher conditions with TTs in the engine bay. SalTek makes some awesome VTC caps with instructions provided to make install easy peasy.
•are you intentionally keeping the PCVs in place? A reroute, at minimum, is highly advised not only to simplify future maintenance, but also to keep the intake tract as clean as possible. (The 2 ports on the driver exhaust valve cover are notorious for sucking up oil on hard left turns, a PCV system reroute or moving to catch can setup is ideal)
If you decide to address those 3 topics, all three will require you to backtrack and redo your valve covers, so keep that in mind when weighing your options.
Last piece of advice: kick the “I don’t have time for this” mentality as it will only slow you down. Working on cars in general can be daunting for us noobs, but even moreso with our beloved Z32s. I’ve created much, MUCH bigger headaches for myself with Zs of my past by working while impatient and/or with frustration. Acting on the belief that good things take time will allow you the clarity to make sound decisions throughout this build. Don’t get me wrong, you’re gonna learn a lot and you’re gonna learn the hard way and honestly that’s for the better, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn to recognize when you need to take a step back, get some sleep and come back with a level head. Your future self will thank you, the Z will reward you and your relationship with it will be that much greater.

I wish I knew about the zspec silicone washers for the valve covers 😡!!!! I thought their kit would have everything needed. Pretty frustrating that their valve cover dress up bolts would have regular washers and not the silicone ones….. I bought a new valve cover, painted and installed it. Was super careful about the torque and didn’t have any issues this time. I don’t want to remove them again but I think next time I ever do, I will definitely get the silicone washers and not use these again.
I think I’ll leave the PCVs alone for the time being, as I’m pretty far along now and would have to backtrack quite a bit. I did think about deleting it originally and running an oil catch can. But just didn’t go through with it as I didn’t feel it was super necessary. I’m sure that’s something I’ll do in the future.
This build is VERY involved and is definitely getting overwhelming at times 🤣 sometimes I give up and sit for a while thinking what if I put it all back together and IF it manages to start, coolant and oil starts leaking from everywhere 🤣 then I snap out of it and get back to it and continue on and do my best! 😅

I am not through the entire vid but as soon as I saw you doing the valve covers, I was going to message you with a caution about about using those engine bay dress-up bolts.
I suffered the same issue. My valve covers were powder coated which sucks even more! No idea why they sell those dress up bolts for our VCs. They should have the rubber cushion which helps to prevent cracking.
I'd replace that VC. I tried an aluminum weld on mine and it leaked after anyhow. Cracked in the exact same spot too. Save the hassle and replace with a new unit before dropping in the motor. Sucks... but keep up the good work.

Yep, thats thinner cast aluminum for ya. The original hardware would not have done that to you I think with the rubber washer and shoulder of the fastener, although its probably still a rare issue with the z spec. My experience is the duplicolor engine paint lasts longer when sealed with the clear. I chose to polish my valve covers. Good job on the videos man! Youre making progress! I think you have one of the best condition Z32 Ive seen in canada, it will be awesome to see it finished but dont rush and enjoy the process as much as you can.

I’ve made a lot more progress than what’s in the video, that was recorded over a month ago, just behind on posting the videos. Trying to get as much done as I can, want to go to a few car shows this summer and just trying to finish the build but also not rush it. Want to do it properly and also make it look great at the same time as well.

Mines literally cracked in the same spot when I painted mines. I put JB weld on it but it definitely needs to just get replaced.

you should have had them powder coated which will out last the paint
