EXPLORING GOTHAM CITY
This guide will show you how to get over the walls of Arkham City and explore all the surrounding environment.
In order to make this trick work, you need to stand on a ledge or a billboard, then face toward the corner and start spamming the button to throw freeze grenades (RT on Xbox 360, L2 on PlayStation 3 and "5" on PC).
Batman will slowly gain altitude, the smog on Arkham City will disappear and, when high enough, you can safely "escape" from the walls of Arkham and explore Gotham City.
All the buildings, streets and cars you'll see are in low textures since they are purely decorative. You can't use the Grapnel Boost, so Glide and Dive Bomb to not lose too much altitude.
You can also explore Arkham Island.
Load the game again to get back in Arkham City or die by falling into the underside of game's world.

Don’t get me wrong, Arkham Knight’s Gotham City is breathtaking and full of details.
But I kinda wish that they used THIS kind of Gotham with the same artstyle.
I feel you man. I was pretty disappointed with Arkham Knight's Gotham City as well.
Same. Arkham knight looks amazing but the weird generic shitty looking city they used just feels off to me. Our first full Gotham and it could be any other city!
Gotham City looks way different in Arkham Knight, don't get me wrong it still looks good, but I was hoping the City would look a little more like this version of Gotham City with the huge Skyscrapers and all. To me this is the real Gotham City

This is Tim Burton's Gotham, which is also the one they used in all those 90's cartoons. But at the end of the day we have Tim Burton to thank for this
The buildings here look a lot more gothic and Art Deco inspired than the ones we have in Arkham Knight , very reminiscent of Batman the Animated series
After replaying AK I’d say both are filled with Art Deco styled buildings , the ones here are just more vertical in design
Facts I like Gotham more in games where I can fully explore the city

I just started playing again after a few months
I collect xp & level up by taking down spawning thugs just for fun, It’s still a great game.
This actually made me cry a little. My lifelong dream of seeing Gotham City. Thank you. :')

After you die when u fall thru the ground in Gotham, when u try to play the game, nothing can be grappled onto and the whole game is screwed up, just want to let everyone know cuz I did that to my game and don't want anyone else to have to go thru wat I did.
that just happens the first time then when you quit and try again it is back to normal

This is quite detailed despite the fact that we don't really go anywhere near these structures. Makes you wonder if these are placeholders or if Arkham City was going to be a lot larger.

I don't really know why everyone is saying it doesn't work. I have done it multiple times. Here is the way I do it most of the time: At the highest point in arkham city (wonder tower) get on the highest long pole sticking out pointing to Gotham. Go to the edge. And repeatedly throw freeze blasts (as shown in the video) when your hand gets tired, pause the game, rest, continue and repeat till smog goes away and you stop moving completely. Then glide and there you go. Dive bomb often to keep your height. I have it on ps3 and I have GOTY edition and it works perfectly, so quit saying it doesn't work on GOTY edition and it's been patched on ps3, it hasn't and work perfectly.

wow thats amazing how rocksteady even took time to put just as much detail in the background as in the normal area. Most games just cover areas where you cant go with fog. It just shows how determined they are about putting quality in their games.Makes me want the next batman game in gotham city 0_0

There are a couple that you can glide off in Arkham Knight if you look closely in the e3 demo.

You can. Shit you can go wayyy higher above the buildings in AK. They upgraded the grapnel boosts sooo much in this game that gliding is kinda faster than using the bat mobile tbh

When your hand gets tired, pause the game. Then unpause with the same button you used to pause, and continue. This can be somewhat tricky, depending on how quick you are to get back to spamming R2

On pc it’s ez cause you can spam the 5 button what ever keybind you have for the freeze grenade on PS4 not really you spam it a few times your hand gets tired and then Batman drops

i find it interesting that the cars move when you can even see them over the walls of Arkham city, a little excesive but shows how through Rocksteady is to making a real world

the developers put so much detail I just thought those were like textures but it's actually a 3d version of Gotham that's awesome but it would have been cool if the cars had good textures and you can actually see people walking around that would be pretty cool

I've to commend the makers of the game for putting so much detail into Gotham. It isn't as much as the rest, but for an environment they never designed for interaction with, the put in a lot of effort.

In this case, it means to keep tapping the button and throwing ice grenades rapidly. Another meaning would be to receive messages or something you don't want. For example, spam emails for ads and stuff.
But what's important is that the meaning in this is to rapidly tap the quickfire freeze grenade button until you are floating high enough to glide to Gotham.

I'm actually impressed at the lv of detail for Gotham when you're only supposed to see it from a distance and clouded by fog. +1 rep for Rocksteady again, just when you think they can't go higher.

Although the city is a backdrop, I feel like Rocksteady knew about this glitch so they expanded the amount of traffic throughout Gotham.

First time I tried this I was able to get back into AC without restarting. I dove into the water behind the police station, triggering the grapple thing, and somehow wound up on some scaffolding back in Park Row outside the courthouse.

IT WORKS!!!!!
1.get on a BILLBOARD
2.turn the camera to the end of the billboard.
3.press the freeze gernade button over and over again.
4.you should start moving to the edge of the billboard.
5.when you get to the end of the billboard you keep pressing the button and you should go up and up and up.

first time i did it was 10 just tape as fast as you can with your hand on the RT trigger and dont stop till u r high but make sure your still in the coner of a building or sign
