Love the base plans Zed, also beacon beams go trough other beacons so making the ore beacons "work" is a fun idea :D
Beacon beams also go through slabs, stairs, walls, bedrock and many other unexpected things.

Right? This could change the metagame! Go straight to enchants and hold off on diamond diving in the early game.
You wouldn't be able to mine certain blocks though so it could only be silk touch, not fortune
Zedvancement idea: Be slain by every mob, even the passive ones. The opposite of the Monsters Hunted advancement.
Passive mobs can kill you with entity cramming, or through more rube goldbergesque means.
He can also be killed by villagers and armor stands using thorns
Achievement idea: Trading up!
Starting with a single emerald, trade with other Hermits for increasingly valuable items until you can buy something really valuable, like someone else's base or your face on the moon. The catch is you can't trade for diamonds.
This is a really funny, really Zedaphy idea.

Reminds me of those trade quests in games where you start with rubbish and eventually get a really good item after trading with many people

The reason that the wooden and diamond pickaxes broke at seemingly the same speed was that there is a sort of "plateau" of breaking speed, where if your pick is not fast enough to instamine but _is_ fast enough to break it within one tick, there is a 0.3 second delay before starting on the next block. This means that past a certain point, making a tool faster does not make a difference unless it can insta-mine.
Wooden tools with all those beacons are gonna be the new netherite!
Don't forget to dye the leather armor, Zed!!
hey zed, you could make the leather armor colorful, make them have really clashing and ugly colors to draw attention and to really sell the "worst gear" aspect of it.
Who would have guessed that an enchanted wood pickaxe can mine stone nearly as efficiently as an enchanted diamond pickaxe?
Like diamond obviously allows for more types of blocks to be cleared, and it won't require a kill every few minutes, but still!

Gonna bet that the center of the picture was actually static, and each timelapse photo involved him moving away from the part of the picture that changed ;-) Still really cool effect though!

Ness here, reporting on Zedaph's exploits again today. He starts with the odd enchanting request of an uber-pickaxe made of wood. Zedaph reveals that it's part of a larger accomplishment that we'll see come to fruition in subsequent weeks. Leather armor and wooden tools? Madness! We also see a touch of the scientist from last season as he compares the efficiency of his new pickaxe against Impulse's diamond counterpart, with shocking results! As a side note, I think "rowing with your armpits" could be a possible new feat, though it would probably need to have a distance-traveled requirement--it's something that several Hermits have already attempted, so we'd need a measurable component to verify.
After a sad incident where Iskall drops Zed's cake on the floor, Zedaph shows us a bit of a mockup of his base idea, hooks his base to the others, and gives us a preview of some longer advancements he's going to achieve during the course of the season.
In conclusion, there are no completions this time, but I think we've gotten some important documentation for his future endeavors.

What about getting every mob (about 70) and making some kind of zoo. That would take the entire season to achieve, but it would be pretty cool

How long did It take WadZee to complete his netherite beacon? I'm pretty sure over a year, maybe even upward of 18 months. That could be a hint of the season length.
If you're willing to go through the grind, you could have the 8 mineral beacons around the edges of the base and one Netherite beacon in the middle.
2:38 - "Why would anyone do that?" (max-enchant leather armor and wooden tools)
Well the wooden tools aren't much good, even enchanted (even an enchanted wooden pick can't mine diamonds, etc.) but enchanted leather armor is actually pretty good. Having the right protection enchantments is much more important than what the armor is made of... The main limitation is that even with Unbreaking 3 and Mending it won't be as durable as diamond or netherite gear. And you can dye leather armor. You still wind up with the enchantment glow that kind of makes everything look the same, a bit, but it's a way to have a distinctive look while still being fully geared up.
Maybe there should be a Zedvancement just for calculating out how many items you need for the collect everything Zedvancement. A MetaZedvancement, if you will.
You know, Zed, when you say "ancient Greece" and "hole", I can't help but think of Dante's inferno. And the first ring of hell is in fact where the ancient Greek philosophers would stay for eternity, so you have that going already. It'd be kind of cool to make a concentric representation of the oother layers if you're interested in making it a little horror inspired!

I had an idea for am achievement that could be fun. Running a marathon (42,195 blocks) or half marathon faster than the world record while also deadlifting pressing a world record weight (1 stone block).
Technically, Iron Boots (Or chain) are the worst type, because Leather boots allow you to walk on powdered snow, so have a good use, and gold keep Piglins happy.
Also, a gold pickaxe is arguable worse due to gold tools having the worse durability.

Fun fact: an Efficiency 5 gold pickaxe can instant mine stone with just haste 1, unlike diamond/netherite which need haste 2.
@@PopeMical They're overall slower though, because you'll have to stop to mend them constantly or even just switch between them. People have tested them and even with infinite picks, they're slower than iron because of the time to open the inventory and replenish the hotbar with gold picks.

Collecting all of the heads is something I've always wanted to see a hermit do.

Imagine setting up a waterway through pipes and making it look like they are just pumping out trophies! You should be able to do it by putting the trophy on an armor stand and turning the armor stand invisible

Are you going to try and get the dragon egg for the Everything Collection! Zedvancement? Also there are 2700 variants of tropical fish in the game, but only 22 uniquely named fish types, so it might be a good idea to collect one of each of the 22.
Also, really enjoying the season so far. You are, in my opinion, the most consistently funny hermit.
The palette of the base is so beautiful, I cant wait to see the hall in all its echo-y glory!
Love the base plans Zed! Maybe have each beacon pyramid on each level? So whichever one you finish first, that one will be in the beacon room of the top floor, then down a level, the next and the next, so on and so forth!

What if as your hole went deeper, each layer gets more and more ruined? Like the upper layers are well maintained but the parts deeper down are neglected and forgotten

There is a very fine line between GENIUS and INSANE. Zed dances on that line like a tightrope over the Grand Canyon.

Thing is, max enchanted wooden or stone fortune picks are extremely helpful for mining amethyst geodes when you don't want to break the budding block/

Maybe put the beacon pyramids on the top of towers around the bottom of the mountain, that way when elytra time comes the beams will highlight the mountain in a Ring of Glory. And also perhaps with the help of another hermit, make a scene around the trophy's depicting the feat.

Achievement suggestions (Names negotiable). Menagerie- Get a head from every mob and player possible. Foodie- Get one of each food item (Maybe a stack but enchanted apples may be impossible for that). Well Spoken- Get all hermits this season to say something specific. Our little Secret- Steal something noticeable from any hermit and have them not notice or comment on it for three or more videos (even better if you then put it back without them noticing). Turtle Time- Walk 100 blocks while moving as slowly as the game allows (ice, cobweb, potion, etc). Staring Back- Travel 1000 blocks under bedrock in the over-world, from one point you open to another. First Night?- Survive one night in the wilderness with no gear and as close to half a heart as you possibly can get and keep.
Have fun grinding Netherite for weeks... months, Zed. Looking forward to those livestreams... if you do do that :D

ZED - You should build the beacon bases below each of the eight columns, with every other one being a functional beacon which emits a beam up through the columns.
I like how the design seems like Grecian or roman architecture. it gives your trophies a Colosseum feel. You could even have a underworld layer towards the bottom. Themed Like the underworld Colosseum from KH3/Hercules .
The reason they are the same speed is that the mining speed of the pick is used to calculate the number of game ticks it takes to mine a block. Since there are 20 ticks per second and a block must take a whole number of ticks (like 2, not 1.5), both picks round to the same number of mining ticks.

Edit: It is actually wooden, diamond picks do 5 damage but at 21:30 you can see his only does 2, the same amount a wooden one does
Would netherite be faster or still round down to the same?
The reason its the same speed is because unless a block in instant mined there is a hard cap of 6 ticks delay between breaking blocks. So although the diamond pick should be about twice as fast at mining stone they end up being the same. If they tested with something harder to break like deepslate you would see the difference with the diamond mining faster
Was reading up on it. Wooden Efficiency V is as good as diamond until you're looking for instant mine.
The Wooden Pick wouldn't get instant mine with haste II with stone. Other harder blocks would also be slower.
Bunch of math involved along with the hardness cap before instant mine level.

Chain mail boots would basically be bad socks right? Flopping around your feet and very uncomfortable as well.

for the copper you could always have 4 diffirent beacons for each phase of copper if you want to make it even more of a nightmare.

An Efficiency V wooden pickaxe can break stone in 0.08 seconds.
An Efficiency V diamond pickaxe can break stone in 0.066 seconds.
However Minecraft rounds the breaking time up to the nearest 0.05 seconds, so both take 0.1 seconds to mine stone.
The base is gonna look super cool. One idea that I think might look cool is a gradient of color from floor to floor, slowly getting darker. On the final layer you could have your nether portal, and the room would be super black and dark themed.
I love the plan you have for this base. Something I also noticed is that with the beacon goal, you will have a total of 4 beacons that will work and 4 beacons that won't, which will make for a nice alternating pattern
Deepslate emerald ore would be a hard one for the everything collection zedvancement. Good luck tho!

I'm only on this second episode and haven't got to the next three yet, but when you mentioned the chest of everything - I had a thought that you could make a hallway going in one side of the octagon and coming out another side and it could be the "Hall of Everything" and you have every item in item frames on the walls? I don't know if that would cause awful lag, but thought it could be a neat way to showcase an item collection! Love the videos, and the idea for unique achievements this season!

Base. Love how the Minecraft gods almost willed that pick into existence. Was meant to be. Love the palette and plans for the base. also I feel cheated. I opened my eyes after the old men comment lol. Feel like that was by design.
I absolutely LOVE the idea of surrounding the base with the 8 different beacons, perhaps with the Netherite beacon in the direct center! This is totally doable too since beacon beams can pass through other beacons...
Also, an idea for the copper beacon: Since there are 4 layers to a beacon, and 4 stages of copper oxidization, you should make the beacon oxidized from bottom to top! It could be quite a cool detail! Can't wait to see more of the base, as well as whatever other crazy Zedvancements you come up with!!
I'm curious if you'll do the achievement "How did we get here?" where you gotta have *all* effects applied at the same time! This includes hero of the village, bad omen, mining fatigue from an elder guardian, levitation from Shulkers, Dolphin's grace, every beacon effect, poison and nausea from a puffer fish, every potion effect and others I forgot about,,,

I have to say, I'm really hyped about this season, the Zedvancements are a wonderful idea… Might have to put on my datapack building hat and actually make an advancement pack for them :D
Well this was a weird episode. About halfway through you told me to close my eyes, and I missed the entire rest of the episode?!?! After waiting about 10 minutes after the episode, I finally decided I could open them again, but my cat had eaten the rest of my lunch while my eyes were closed... That was a bit sad.
Yes, that's very unfortunate but on the plus side you get to watch the episode again, refusing to close your eyes this time. That's one and a half episodes for you for the price of one!

Oooo…as a hobbyist MCer, I’m gonna follow this closely as watch your collection grow! Maybe item frames on all the walls with collections. Or heck, a museum feel! With art depicting the room collection or banners or whatnot. Such a brilliant and satisfying idea!

@ZedaphPlays I hope you see this. It could be important. The 2 rarest ore blocks in the game, because of the new generation mechanics, are deep slate coal, and regular stone diamond ores. If you use these in your build, you’ll be seriously flexing on everyone. Good luck finding them, though. You’ll have to branchmine at the levels where deep slate and regular stone overlap, because diamonds rarely spawn above Y zero now and coal NEVER spawns below that. Also, when you make the leather armor, you should dye each piece a different color. I recommend black boots, red pants, yellow tunic, and lime green cap. These colors are used for traffic signals, but also for the signal lights at the starting line for drag races. You can call it the Starter Set. 😁👍
The wooden tools being just as good as diamond isnt true because wood can't mine diamonds (but why wood you if you have wood)
For the every single item, you're going to need about 100 stacks of chests.
Closer to 50 chests total. The minecraft item ID site has 1325 unique item/block ID's available, suggesting that the total obtainable number will be less than that due to blocks like Bedrock or Budding Amethyst which can't be obtained in survival.
Each chest is 27 slots, so 50 of them would be 1350 unique slots - More than enough for every item ID in the game.

I know u said u were gunna add waterfalls and stuff but, it could also be cool if ud add drip stones in like behind ur walls that why u could hear the literal dripping in the background too! Love the base design!
Really love your direction for this season Zedaph! Hope you can get a massive collection of trophies! Tip for your beacons, you can hide a 3x3 beacon directly underneath the top beacon to make them look real. It will mean killing several more Withers, but I'm sure you can do it.
Also, have fun trying to get the dragon egg from Pearl for your collection!

Zedaph, your awesome. I love your style of play. I know I’m always in for the same thing I get from doc, but from a different angle. Where doc pushes the limits of technical Minecraft you push the limits of the technical part that may not be as technically useful but equally as useful when enjoying this wonderful game. Keep it up
