His is the most unusual rendition of "Pieta Signore" that I have ever heard. Singers generally invest a great deal of emotion and finesse in this selection. Del Monaco goes, for what is regarded as, the Jugular Vein from start to finish, giving full vent to his magnificent sound. And yet, it is remarkable how much emotion he generates. This is typical Del Monaco. The response that his style evokes in the listener is not cerebral but rather visceral. In order to fully appreciate, what I consider, as, Del Monaco's enormous talent, one must accept and meet him on his terms.
Shlomo listen to the last selection from Otello if you want emotion and finesse. This is a CONCERT not a RECORDING studio. When they invite you to sing in Japan, you can give them your emotion and finesse.

One listens to this in 2021, and is astounded. Absolutely astounded at the magnificence of the true art. Del Monaco, Corelli, Bastiani, Bjoerling -- yes, so many fine singers of the time. Yet, Del Monaco had a power that even Corelli -- as superb as he was -- did not match. Part of it was just stunning, gifted power, supreme attention to the gift he developed, and a magnetic ability not only to sing, but to become the characters -- to become the music. We have some very fine tenors today, but when I hear such beauty, I have to say, there is no comparison. Really, none. We have stars and personalities today -- and as much as these tenors of the past were certainly stars and personalities, they had a commitment to a specific school of singing: Complete control, and continual understanding of what their gift was and how to use it. Today, singers seem to reach for the camera, rather than the glorious notes. It is perhaps unfair to compare, but how can one not? My god, listen to Mario hold those notes! Listen to the dramatic truth in the attention to the words and music in tandem.
Thank heaven we have such documents.

Vero un fenomeno gran voce bella persona e gran interprete
Del Monaco, una voce tornante, una emissione rotonda, piena, degna del mantice di un gran Organo a canne. Tenore lirico spinto di straordinario pathos. Emissione perfetta di rara potenza, ma capace di addolcirsi in filati respiri, anche se con qualche difficoltà. Tenore lirico nel gotha dei grandissimi con Corelli. Il paragone con altri tenori lirici, come Tamagno / Caruso e altri non è possibile per la profonda differenza di registrazione. Bravissimo Mario. 👍👍👍

In the post war period , only Japanese have the taste to appreciate this imperial art form. They genuinely love opera singing
è un concerto di valore,perchè la vocalità di Del Monaco in questa performance è più chiara ...e a 30 anni dal debutto,non ha perso intensità e armonici... cosa molto rara,dopo aver interpretato un repertorio proibitivo....possiamo dire che alcune note sono "aperte",ma non pregiudica in alcun modo la grandezza vocale e interpretativa di un grande del recitar-cantando...grazie
giampierone010 Mica tanto. È più chiara in quanto è meno profonda e a tratti poco aperta su alcune note di passaggio ma è sempre sul chiaro/scuro con quelle brunitore. Certo che la ricchezza degli armonici fa impressione. Ha fatto anche una bellissima smorzatura nel finale del primo brano. Pensare che ci sono tenori con appena 100 recite e hanno già la voce distrutta e lui invece con 2000 recite aveva ancora questa voce. Qui si capisce proprio che è stato un atleta e che la sua voce andava di pari passo con la sua salute e maturità fisica. Nel prologo dei pagliacci ritrova le sue rotondità e molta profondità. Saluti

Del Monaco venne poi in Giappone da solo nel 1969 (all'età di 54 anni) e fece dei recital al Bunka Kaikan di Tokyo, al Festival Hall (Osaka) e all'Ibaraki Prefectural Culture Centre. Ho sentito il concerto a Tokyo, naturalmente, ma probabilmente ha cantato solo circa la metà dell'intero programma. Anche se può aver perso un po' dell'intensità del suo periodo d'oro, Del Monaco era ancora Del Monaco. Un settimanale, tuttavia, lo aveva etichettato come in declino, e scrisse in modo macabro che "i miti fan sono entusiasti, ma i critici sono tutti austeri". La prima volta che ho visto un film nel Regno Unito, ero in una stanza con una donna.
Durante questa visita in Giappone, ho prodotto un programma di interviste per FM Tokyo e sono andato al suo hotel con un registratore. Era metà ottobre e lui era vestito pesantemente con un cappotto pesante, una grande sciarpa e una maschera. Sembrava sorprendentemente più piccolo che sul palco, circa la mia stessa altezza (170 cm). Quando lo salutai, si limitò ad annuire e a pronunciare qualche parola sottovoce.
Una volta nella sua stanza, si tolse solo la maschera e disse: "Allora?". La faccia ha detto. Ho avviato il registratore, gli ho fatto una domanda e, non appena ha annuito, ha cominciato a parlare con una voce chiara, rauca e con grande intensità. Parlò appassionatamente e senza interruzione per dieci minuti interi, dopo di che smise di parlare come se il fuoco si fosse spento. Ho chiesto deliberatamente: "Allora?". Ma l'interprete ha detto: "Questo è tutto".
È così, vero?" Mi guardò con un'espressione che diceva: "Non sono più un Otero severo", e mi sorrise con un sorriso amichevole. Quella fu l'ultima volta che venne in Giappone.

Nadie le sacó su voz: ya la tenía y solamente la pulió. Su poder vocal, su timbre, la emisión penetrante de la letra i, su extensísimo fiato, la belleza de su timbre y su dramatismo expresivo son cualidades hoy perdidas. Su Otello es hasta hoy insuperable. Se le atribuyen defectos, que todos los cantantes tienen, pero que son superados por sus cualidades. Victoria de los Ángeles, el ángel de las sopranos por su dulzura vocal, cantó Otello con del Monaco en el Met. En una entrevista que le hice en 1972, me dijo que no concebía ningún Otello mejor que el de Mario del Monaco. Jerome Hines, el bajo notable norteameriano que también cantó con del Monaco, escribió que nunca había escuchado un si bemol tan grande como el de Mario. Este si bemol se puede escuchar en una grabación de 1958 de selecciones de Sansón y Dalila con la mezzosoprano Rise Stevens, cuando del Monaco culmina el dueto que dice Dalila!, Dalila!, je t´aime! Es una maravilla vocal. Saludos,
@@silvioivanbendanamora1682 me tocó ir sólo casi 3 meses a Treviso, a perfeccionar técnica de canto con un ex alumno de del Mónaco, pero era imposible poder pagar más clases más los gastos de hospedaje fuertisimos, comidas y demás. Lamentablemente tuve la mala suerte de nacer en México, en donde las voces buenas no tenemos ni espacio ni apoyo para ir a Europa a prepararse, estoy convencido que si hubiera tenido el apoyo para estar muchos años en Italia, España, Alemania o Vienna, en este momento sería el mejor tenor del mundo, pero hoy estoy resignado de que los niveles a los que tuve que haber llegado ya no sucederán, una lágrima rueda por mi mejilla tras escribir esto. Felicidades por su trayectoria

Great Maestro del Monaco shows real belcanto italiano - body resonance. Forward voice placement (into front mask) of nowadays is big mistake.

Corelli said that singing in the mask is wrong. Not giving my opinion, just saying that Franco actually said that.
But I agree that there's no "body resonance". The sound comes from the throat, where the vocal chords are, so I think it's more correct to say "pharyngeal resonance".
@@eduardoalvarado4330 it comes from the vibration of the vocal chord. And the cheeks and face bone sculpture have empty spaces (mask) that can help resonate the sound coming from the vocal chord. Corelli may feel no mask resonation but physics rules.

I am wondering whether his voice was amplified in any way,. There might be one mic in front of him. I am not sure as it looks like a stick....
The amplification was in his throat. He always sounded as if he had a built in amplifier. His voice was even larger during the 1950s when he sang at the Met. After his almost fatal car accident in December 1963, he was on ''kidney dialysis until he passes.After the accident, his voice never truly returned to what it once was, but still fantastic during his almost 35 year career which actually started in 1940 and officially ended in 1975.

Il fatto è che del monaco è uno di quegli artisti a cui non si può dire assolutamente nulla, quindi a chi non piace può andare ad ascoltare i vari Kaufman, Alvarez, grigolo...solo il nome mi fa ridere....e via discorrendo senza avere discussioni inutili sulle preferenze....
Aggiungiamoci pure Bocelli e il volo tra le nullità assolute del momento.
