Wow! That was wonderful. I will play it again. I’ve been missing. Stargate. I do have some dvds, but my Tv to play them broke. Thank you for summerzing it so beautifully. I love Richard and his humor.
My wife also enjoyed him greatly in Sex and the City, which I think is his most popular role. He also appeared on Star Trek once in Make-Up (Voyager "Thirty Days").
Teal'c was criminally underutilised in the early seasons, seriously. But goddamn as the show went on he just got better and better, every one of his joke lines land perfectly and he has a great emotional story throughout the series.

I felt this way right up until the first episode he wrote. It stood out to me as the best episode I had seen so far and when I saw the credits it became clear why IMMEDIATELY.
Teal'c was the only reason I stuck with the show past Season 6.
Maybe he was underutilised but I thought it worked quite well for his characters development showing hour much he's climbatised to earth and its cultures when contrasted with later seasons. The man was a stoic slave guard. He's life was following order without question, seen and not heard and only speak when spoken to. It only makes sense it would take time for his mentality to shift away from his upbringing. Dont think I'd have been as absorbed into the series if he over threw his oppressive god then immediately joined a group of aliens on a foreign planet and started cracking pop culture references

SG-1 is the only example of a space exploration show where it is not in the far future with all the bugs worked out. This show goes from them literally saving the world with floppies to a decade later developing the technology organically to the series end which most shows use as their start.
This is one aspect I absolutely love about the show - the slow transition from the modern day of 1997 to fully fledged space opera over the course of a decade and change. If there ever is a new Stargate series, I hope it continues to build off that foundation, showing us how the world has continued to progress into the new space age of the 2020s (or 2030s if we have to wait that long). Though I suppose I could begrudgingly see the value of a full reboot that re-establishes the core mythos of the series in a more mature - though still occasionally humorous - way. As an example, treating the female characters on the show in less exploitative ways and properly sorting out that the goa'uld are hijacking Earth's religions rather than creating - as this video points out.
The adult version of me now knows they just wanted to save money on props so they reused things. But as a kid I LOVED how a technology would be found in season 1, then come back in season 5 then be back again but now with a airforce sticker on it.

@@alphadawg81 and they never explain how that works! When the show started, Daniel had to learn the language of every new culture they came across. The writers realised that limited the kind of stories they wanted to tell and just dropped it all together.
Now everyone except the Goa'uld speak perfect English, even people on the other side of the galaxy. And they never address it. No universal translator, no Babel-fish, nothing, zilch...
And I love it to bits.

My mother and I were big fans of SG-1 while I was growing up. She was extremely surprised to see Ben Browder become the show's team lead in later seasons, since he was one of her highschool class mates and friends.
the episode that stuck out to me forever was when O Neill and Tealc got stuck on a space ship and had only radio signal to communicate with the crew, making their communications increasingly more delayed. It just struck me as such a great dramatic concept that is so simple and makes sci fi truly great.

It took years to hold my head up and say "No, but I work hard and love what I do get to perform."
People assume all actors are famous. We aren't. Most of us are struggling but in love with what we do.
I feel like the question "anything I would know?" is the opposite of "assuming all actors are famous".
Anything I would know is really broad tbh I watch some obscure and wild shit. I'd have just run a small list I've done camera work for a host of productions and to find an avenue that communicates to the person addressing me is usually pretty easy when I know about the person
I once worked in the business. Generally Ypu are either really famous and wealthy or you're fighting to make a living, And it usually has at least as much to do with luck as it has with talent. I have enormous respect for everyone working hard and keeping their integrity in this business. And I am also happy that some of the more dubious practices against women in the business have recently come to light and those responsible get what they deserve.
It's so weird how Stargate had a franchise of three television shows airing simultaneously and then the entire franchise went radio silent. It's like if Star Trek just STOPPED after DS9.
Better to end on a good note, than overstay your welcome i'd say.

Nitpick: Jack isn't retired in season 9. He replaced Gen. Hammond as the head of Homeworld Security in Washington DC.

Me and my main Stargate buddy are still salty about the general poor treatment of Jonas/Corin. Dude killed it coming in replacing a beloved character then got dropped harsh and never really returned to after so much good work.
I thought Jonas was somehow going to be part of the solution to the Asgard genetic issue since it shows he has an amazing ability to learn and retain knowledge.

Around two years ago, I stumbled upon a video about Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. That video changed my life by introducing me to Stargate via just a brief mention of the franchise. I finished SG-1 last week. Yeah, it took me two years, I know, but in my defense there are over 200 episodes and these last two years have been a little crazy. This video was perfectly timed as the capstone to my SG-1 journey. I've now several episodes into Stargate Atlantis. Thank you @Ladyknightthebrave for these amazing videos and initiating me into the world of Stargate.
Stargate Atlantis is a bop, absolotely awesome show, but to give a personal recommendation: Don't watch the last episode of season 5. There was supposed to be a 6th season, then a movie, then it all got cancelled and that last episode is just a mess. Worse is that there's no true "Ending" or goodbye in any sense. It's really disappointing as an outing. Season 3's ending/ season 4's beginning is amazing though and really the highlight of the show.

I really liked the pen ultimate ending to Atlantis, but my wife felt like it was a pilot to another unrelated show and didn't really enjoy it.

@@hayleythompson8565 I like the last episode of Atlantis. It was written because the show wasn't cancelled until later, but they thought there was that chance, so they wrote something that could be used either way.
About the whole "militaries use movies for recruitment" thing: a guy came to my school who had been in the military and told us that his decision to join was heavily influenced by the movie Top Gun. And then went on to elaborate on how different the real military was as if it were just some amusing anecdote and not the actual real live problem of glamorization of the military working to pull people like him in. I dunno. It seemed really weird to me

It's very weird as a kid to be exposed to it from a third person perspective. I had to wonder if I was crazy and paranoid, or if this man was just mentally ill.
Consideing this guy was jumping up and down, manically screaming about one tangent or another, running around in circles, and shooting with his invisible guns for the better part of three hours... While also swearing up and down he didn't use drugs anymore. This story tells it'self.
So you mention how great Amanda Tapping is (agreed), there is little known behind the scenes stuff going on through the seasons.
I remember rewatching and noticing odd camera angles and her looking pregnant to me. Its common for tv shows to hide a pregnancy with props etc. How I Met Your Mother being a prime example as they had two pregnant main cast members at once.
When I looked into it, I could not confirm if she was infact pregnant but I learnt she had a horrifying string of miscarriages throughout her run on Stargate. I think it was something like 8, a truly inhuman amount.
Throughout it all she kept working and kept it hidden, (I wish she felt she could have shared).
She’s managed to successfully have kids now and is an advocate for helping women through miscarriage.
She does seem like a pretty awesome person.

Maybe, she just wants her private life to be private. I am a teacher, which means you are sort of a mini-celebrity for the kids at your school, . They sometimes (actually quite regularly) also ask personal questions, and I am very conscious about what I share and what I don't. I don't share stuff about my wife and everything to do with her usually, because that's between her and me and none of anyone's business. I do usually share that we keep some Shetland ponies, because it sparks the kid's curiosity and encourages him to listen to my stories in English (I teach English as a second language). However, I don't share where we keep them and their medical histories and stuff like that. The same goes for many other teachers and info they've share privately with me. I've had colleagues having a leave of absence, sometimes for health reasons, sometimes for pregnancy reasons. Sometimes I know what's going on, sometimes I don't, but either way I would never share that kind of information with the kids, because that's private.

@@fgdj2000 I feel you misunderstand me. I’m not saying she should hide it from the fans, which is maybe the comparison you are trying to make with the kids.
From what I understand she kept it completely secret from anyone she worked with, including her bosses, instead going straight back into work the next day and pretending nothing happened.
The details are absolutely private and should not be shared with any colleagues but her acting like nothing happened and not even taking a sick day because she did not wish to discuss with her managers is what makes me sad for her more than I already was for the situation.

I love crafting a narrative that's in each character's voice, even when it's not in first-person. I feel like i know them well enough, and the stories always come out exactly the way i want. Even Janet's. The only other characters i can do that with is the HP trio. ❤

SG-1 has a special place in my heart for a lot of reasons that you've mentioned, but especially having grown up in BC, Canada. "Langara" is an area in North Vancouver. "Kelowna" is a city in the interior of BC. There are other such examples of these kinds of gags, too, but your video reminded me of these ones in particular. Plus, it was always so exciting to point at the show and go "Oh my gosh! That's the Simon Fraser University campus!" and things like that.
This video has given me so much nostalgia, thank you for all of your work.
I was a munchkin in episode 200. The two Furlings were also Munchkins and I got to see them film the forest shots before we did our little walk up a path.
My now-deceased Father was a HUGE Stargate fan and I feel like I did him a solid getting him on set to meet Amanda Tapping and Claudia Black. Watching this brought back so many wonderful memories and I love this video. Stargate-- problems and all-- has such a special place in my life.
"200" IMHO, is their best episode, it's a sendup of the show, sci-fi series, and Hollywood producers all at the same time. You're a lucky person to have paticipated in it :)

It's only 17 seasons
SG1 was my first-ever fandom, and it deeply defined and influenced how I approach online stuff and fandom to this day. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a retrospective on something that 100% without fail had the exact same takes and emotions as I did, and this one … does. (Except for the shipping; I shipped everyone with everyone all the time.)

Shanks left initially because he felt like his character was being underutilized compared to the original movie. When he came back his character became more of a main character than a supporting character.

SG-1 holds a strange place in my heart as a piece of entertainment that I grew up with; marathon watching older seasons until I was caught up to the eventual final season and the two SG-1 films post series finale. Claudia Black and Amanda Tapping were definitely my baby gay WLW crushes (before I could ever even CONCEIVE of myself not being straight). It’s absolutely got seasons/thematic storylines that are messier than others and has the budget/VFX constraints of it’s time. Even so, there’s also writing/acting in certain episodes that I can rewatch over again and would recommend to those who never caught onto its strange action/scifi wave. It’s also SUPER simultaneously Canadian & American with its casting/shooting locations and it’s been interesting seeing what future projects the cast/crew has gone onto. This video essay feels almost like an old memory book tailored from my past late nights going through DVD box sets of seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis. 😂💜☺️

Sam Carter's introduction as a woman competing in a male-dominated military, sparring a little with the men in the conference room just to be taken seriously, went really well. It helped establish her character. Later, we see nuance and depth to her character. And yes, early on, Teal'c was too often the strong, silent type or a Spock substitute, and only later did we start to see the depth behind him, character and actor.

Stargate Atlantis has what is, for my money, perhaps the most skillfully written line of dialogue in screen history.

I watched Stargate SG-1 with my girls after school when it replayed on SciFi when they were growing up. I keep pestering my teenage son to stop watching anime and watch SG- with me. Thank you for your video.. not gonna lie, I was crying by the end. I have loved this show forever. My favorite episode is Window of Opportunity, and I watch it on bad days and it never fails to make me smile.
Maybe you can convince your son to play the new rpg and hook him on it that way?

I never understood why getting Sha're naked would be something a Goa'uld would do. It was always predatory.
I'm not excusing some real life executive's deicition, but as for a Goa'uld motivation - you kinda answered yourself.
It was the body his queen was going to inhabit for assumedly a very long time. He unclothed her then brought his love in to make the decision. I would certainly make sure the body I was going to spend that length of time in was up to snuff. Especially if I was a parasite who could have any body I wanted. I'm not going to pick a fat person to spend my days in.
If you hadn't noticed, all the Goa'uld possess good looking bodies. And it's not just looking good for the sake of looking good. That's part of it, but for better or worse, good looking people command more attention. And as "Gods" they would certainly be that vain. I don't see what's hard to understand unless you are looking for maliciousness where there isn't any.

Like Stevo said, it was because the symbiote was judging the bodies of the potential women she would inhabit. It was quite predatory, and also completely selfish, and had very little to do with the women personally. Their personalities would be suppressed, anyway, and i would imagine that to a Goa'uld it was like deciding on the one human suit you'd wear for the next 3000 years. They likely looked upon them as their own bodies already.
But yeah, full nakedness can always be implied. There was no need to actually film her naked.

Sg1 has a special place in my heart. For years it was my favourite show and it always aired on Wednesdays (here in Germany) and that was also the day where my parents weren't home in the evening. So for years every Wednesday I would have the house to myself and watch this show religiously. Good times

This entire video is a masterpiece. I am inspired by the amount of work that you have done in creating it and the background research on not just SG1 but other pertinent topics as well. Your narration is clear, well written, and entertaining. The editing is incredible, and your music selection fits each of your chapters incredibly well. Having worked on some large projects my self I can't even imagine what your project timeline must have looked like. Bravo!
I like that Claudia Black appears to be precisely as perfect for her role in Stargate, as she is as the voice of Morrigan (from the Dragon Age games). Were it not for the military themes/content in SG-1, I would probably watch the series on the strength of her presence alone (yes, I happen to think that Morrigan is that good of a character, and I'm really itching for Dragon Age 4, ok?).

Have you seen Farscape? I LOVE that show; probably my favorite sci-fi show of all-time.
Selling points: so, a lot of Farscape fans will be a bit defensive about the, oh, first half or so of season 1, talking about how it gets better after that. I would say that a show like Firefly does a clearly better job of grabbing you right off the bat, of being accessible right away to a broad audience, and Farscape doesn't quite do that. But I was hooked pretty early on, and I think there are a lot of people who enjoy it pretty early on too, so I definitely don't want you going into it thinking you have to slog through the first 10 eps or so. It definitely hits its stride later on and reaches another level, but it's pretty good right away. The biggest "problem" with it compared to a more widely accessible beginning as in Firefly is that, in Firefly, much of the crew already know each other and already have a very mature and defined dynamic with one another. In Farscape, that's not so, so the writers took their time with a lot of one-off episodes that are more about world-building, and revealing the characters to one another as well as to the audience. And developing a relationship with one another. Some of the stuff is important later on but, if it is, that's almost incidental to the character development. The actual *story* of the show doesn't really ramp up until about halfway through. (I think episode 4 or 5 is a great example, early on, of the potential of the show though.)
The "hero" of the show (again, like Firefly, I'm not sure it's fair to say there's one hero; kind of, but all of the crew are really important) is a scientist rather than a soldier, and he's allowed to be really smart and compassionate. A lot of tv shows, even sci fi, tends to have characters who are more Han Solo; Crichton is definitely a lot more Luke Skywalker, which is refreshing.
The rest of the crew is pretty great; the add a few cast members, and lose some, here and there, and you'll have favorites, but fans will disagree on who they like best, which is a good sign that it's given the characters real depth and not stereotypical roles.
Claudia Black definitely kicks ass. She, like every character on the show, gets to show depth and is allowed to push herself and grow.
I think most of the 2- or 3-part episodes are the best; there's a few over a relatively short period of time late in season 1 then early in season 2 that should really get you hooked, if you aren't by then. You can see the writers really getting comfortable later on and having fun with some weird episodes, although honestly even early on there are some weird, silly episodes. Some really all-time great storylines; a really ballsy decision early in season 3 that I'm so impressed by; that they went through with it, and then the really great, and emotional, execution of it.

I have seen/read many recommendations for Farscape ever since I was introduced to Firefly (about... 12 years ago?!?). So far, I've always disregarded Farscape solely based on the Jim Henson Company contributions ("Looks cute alright, but seriously, muppets in space? I'd rather replay Mass Effect"). An admittedly silly reason, especially for a Star Wars fan (hi Yoda!).
However, my sci-fi preferences have changed with time (12! Years!! Aaaaaah!!!), and, having read your impassioned comment above, I feel that 2022 is finally the year to take the plunge into season 1 & 2.

I've been a big fan of these essays for a while now, but this... THIS is a masterwork. It sums up the show and my feelings on it so well.
Also, Vala + Daniel is also my trash.
As for favourite episode? That's a tough one, but I'm gonna say Heroes Part 2. Daniel dying definitely had me in tears, but Dr Fraser's death wrecks me EVERY TIME. I actually had to pause this essay in the middle and go watch the last 20 minutes of that episode and have a good cry before I could continue.
Janet’s is the best character death the show ever did, and I will stand by that assertion
"Lifeboat" showcased Michael Shanks's stage acting beautifully. That's another gem. Lol

I will NEVER not get chills when i hear the original Stargate song. SG-1 is easily one of the best TV shows i ever saw from the '90s, and it will always hold a VERY special place in my heart, along with Home Improvement, X-Files, and Friends. Also with the latter seasons with Ben and Claudia, are perfect examples of how to properly transition old to new cast, they fit in SO well.

After chatting about this for the last however many months I'm glad you've gotten this epic endeavour done, its an excellent video!
The US has the whole "always prepared to fight 2 wars at once" thing.
The series finale of Stargate SG1 is one of my favorite episodes of anything- and I seriously cannot listen to "Have you Ever Seen the Rain" without feeling all the feels from that montage. I'm usually not a fan of montages, but they show you everything that makes you feel the weight of their predicament and it's such a powerful way to show you their mindsets, ups and downs, joy, rages, hopelessness, loss and so on of those years.
Sometimes I just rewatch that ep- it doesn't matter that I know what is going to happen, I still feel like I'm holding my breath from the second she throws up that dilation field, to the end. I'm not one to cry too easily at shows and movies- but I always tear up at very set points, even if I brace and convince myself this time I won't.
The makeup looks silly- but they really did have no time- but the acting is so on point...
Oh- and the accidental museum hostage take over is also one of my fave eps of anything- I have so many Daniel soundbytes from that ep just with my mp3s on my phone. When I'm listening to my mp3 collection gathered over decades- most from before CDs had copy protection and I just ripped my own MP3s of my collection, my boyfriend's collection, all my friends' collections- there will be random Daniel lines from that ep with him trying to be taken seriously as a hostage taker and pretty much failing miserably on it.
Also the whole "It seems we have a McClain situation here..." Danial going "What?" because he didn't quite catch it, and T'elc (sp?) just walking by casually and saying softly to him "Die Hard" kills me every time I hear it on my mp3 list- or on a rewatch. That's also an ep I just put on when I want just silly fun.
SG-1 is an incredibly special show to me. This absolutely made my day. I rewatched during quarantine, and Unending hit me so unbelievably hard.
Umm just needed this in my life. Stargate is something that I grew up with and so many odd things to chew on with it. Thank you for making this video. ❤️

I love this show so much for all its ups downs and falts, I grew up watching it with my mother, I'd walk into her room and just end up spending most of the day watching this, it holds such a near and dear place in my heart and its great to see a youtuber look into it as deeply as you did, you did a great job of explaining the good bad and ugly, yet, you were able to leave off on such a good note.
God I’m so happy you made this. I loved this show and it was something I grew up with. As an adult though it’s hard to ignore it’s issues and I am kinda fascinated by its fixations and its problems, even though I love it.
I’m so glad you mentioned Jonas! I haven’t seen that season in so long - tbh I was so young when I watched this show that season 3-8 are kinda a blur. The way you discuss his character makes me jump right into that season though! It sounds excellent and the weather channel detail is so precious!
ALSO I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKE SEASONS 9-10! Maybe it’s the fact that I was finally old enough to understand some of the seasons’ themes by the time 9 and 10 aired, or maybe it’s the fact that the energy just felt so different, but those are my favorite seasons. I haven’t ever done a full series rewatch, but I’ve done a quick multi-episode binge of the last two seasons multiple times. And I genuinely have so much love for Claudia Black’s character and her relationship with the other team members.
The way you discuss seasons 9-10 is honestly so illuminating for me. I was raised in a very Catholic homophobic environment and am now a very queer, very lapsed Catholic as an adult, so now that you’ve framed it in religious terms, I am realizing that part of my attachment to those later seasons is rooted in that. It is that I love Claudia Black, but it’s also that I find comfort watching the characters I love fight against a cruel religion that feels like what I grew up with.

Aaahhhh Stargate Infinity! That was child!me’s introduction to the franchise and I loved it, but my mom and aunt watched both SG-1 and Atlantis and didn’t share my love for Infinity so they sat me down in front of those shows to introduce me to the real franchise 😂
I have so many feelings about this video! Six years ago I’d tell my film buff friends “oh yeah my favorite tv shows of all time are the X-Files and Stargate SG-1” and almost every single time, I’d have to explain the premise of SG-1 because no one my age had heard of it, and now here I am, an adult, getting to watch this kickass video essay made by another fan about one of my favorite shows. I love this so much!

This was so good, thank you. Great to see a video that can both appreciate a show as only a fan can and offer legitimate criticisms of it.
Urgo was one of my favorite SG1s, and I loved the episode.. was it one of McKay's episodes? With the black hole that was keeping the gate open and the team was trying to rescue tealc? I love so many episodes. I do so enjoy just throwing on SG-1.
But I definitely fell as in love or more in love with atlantis, and for me one of my very favorite of all time episodes is as you mentioned, Grace under pressure, the inversion of Sam's episode Grace. In particular, something I appreciated about Atlantis was the increased multiculturalism.
Also about atlantis, I enjoyed the feeling of the whole base as a community that was having to learn things and write new rules for each other and rely on each other in a unique way... because they were so separate from Earth so often, it was a way of sort of reinventing themselves that helped separate it from the American military aspect to a certain degree.
I never did get into universe, because I couldn't handle the jockeying for power? It really frustrated me, the feeling that like. That like they had this huge problem on the horizon but they were too busy arguing about politics and who is in charge.
Very much looking forward to new entries in this franchise though!

I loved SG-1 to bits and pieces when I was younger and this video took me back to that time. I love that you do not shy away from talking about the parts that have aged poorly, and the parts that have already been problematic back then, while still containing the passion and love for the series and the characters. That's how we should look back at media we loved. Nostalgia without rose tinted glasses. Thank you so much for this video, it means a lot to me to feel that love for the show again. Oh how I miss it.

my only two cents on the military- as the child of a military man who served for 34 years and climbed the rungs like his life depended on it, i am not a fan of the military. it shaped my childhood just by my father being in it, being that it was the reason he was often away for weeks or even months on end well into my preteen years. my sister hates him for his absence and i grew to think it was normal and even still i find it disconcerting to see him every day because i'm just so used to him not being here. my happiest years were when he lived in a different city for two years, only ever coming home on weekends, so it was just me and my mom. like, that's not how normal/healthy relationships with your parent should be, but that's what the military did to our family. anyway, loving your videos, lady knight!

I want to touch on something you mentioned, and that’s Christians’ belief that they have the right to “save” you from your own religion. I grew up in the church, half my family his catholic and the other half Methodist, and all my friends and I did younglife and other programs like that. A HUGE part of what we were taught was that we needed “save” people who had not ”found Jesus”. Looking back what they were doing was training a whole new generation of colonists, it’s like the whole point of the church is. Ow to wipe out everything “other”. It’s the height of narcissism!!

I had a catholic missionary come to school here in Aus (which is completely illegal in public schools because they are supposed to be secular).
He did his preaching, had the whole class entranced, I was not having it on. I do not lie, I put my hand up and said "every word this person says is a lie and I would rather scratch my eyes out with sandpaper than be forced to read any more poison." 8 year old me had opinons, and ASD meant I didn't care who I was addressing, I just blurted out whatever was on my mind. Ah the good old days of just not giving a single fuck. Needless to say my teacher hated me for the rest of her short bitter life, her assistant thought I was hilarious.

Ah yes. I also have an issue with the central comittee of athiesm. The totally real and not made up organisation of all athiests in the world, that get together and circle jerk about the agenda of athiesm.
Because all athiests belong to a single supremely powerful organisation that forbids us all from having any independant or divergent thoughts or values. This problem stems from athiests seperating from organised religion to form their own identitties and values. You're making perfect sense.

My mum hated that shit so much she wrote a note that I could not be made to sit in the same room as any religious instruction at any time. It was a blanket note she write every year for 12 years cause the only religious person who came to public schools was a priest and she hated indoctrination.

SG1 was a formative part of my life while growing up and it makes me happy to see someone talk about it who obviously loves it just as much. Also fave episode is probably 'window of opportunity' although you mentioned a ton of great ones.
I feel like the observation in "Chapter 2: Emancipation" is true in some regards to relating race and culture, but it mostly focuses on people of color which are prominent up to seasons 9-10. The main points made here are that people of color are typically bad because of their association to other religions and cultures but the Ori are a complete mockery of Christianity and portrayed entirely by White Men. Making the point that "People of color are depicted as evil villains" not entirely truthful as it applies to all races.
I simply feel this judgment of color is simply unfair, however I agree that the writing tended to be a little.... repetitive. Great video essay though!

I am not even sure there was a message like "people of color are typically bad". The Abydos people, the Jaffa rebels, the female Jaffa rebels, Teal'c's son and wife all were people of color too and we connected to a lot of them. Also, there were lots of bad white Jaffa, namely the one O'Neill was goofing around with ("tell him, you screwed up again!")
I did however get anti-Russian vibes from some episodes!
@@Fidi987 I liked the video in general, but I think her take on that part, and the complaints about representing white men as the good guys and the "problem" with the Goa'Uld was a textbook definition of seeing perceived racism where there were none in the first place.
It's also certainly weird that she's complaining about all other religions and cultures being missrepresented and twisted, but she's totally into it once the Ori come in with their parody of Christianity, even if they do have a touch of Islam on top...

You mis-represented SG-1 'helping' commit war crimes in the episode (The Other Side). You framed it as if they intentionally helped them, but they didn't. They went to the planet to help an alien race who begged for help. They were manipulated and fooled into thinking that the aliens were good and were under attack from an evil force. As soon as SG-1 discovered the secret (that they themselves were in fact the evil force) they immediately stopped helping them and left the planet. The whole point of the episode was to show the moral grey area of war, and how appearances can be deceiving.
Them just helping without questioning was the problem.

Right. And Jack only helped shoot down a ship because he thought is was an unmanned drone. When he discovered he'd shot down an actual person, he was upset. They were not there to fight those people's war and take a side.
Thank you so much for this! I used to watch Stargate all the time growing up. It’s one of favorite shows, but at some point I fell off and when I tried to get back into it I honestly couldn’t remember how much I’d watched.
This was extremely helpful in three ways:
1. You reminded me how much I enjoyed Stargate! The best episodes you mentioned are also the ones I remember the most vividly, so I think you nailed it on recommendations.
2. You did a fantastic job of recapping all the important and insane stuff that happens throughout the show, which strangely enough is the stuff I have the hardest time remembering.
3. Most importantly of all, you helped me figure out how much I’ve watched! I was somewhere around season 8 when I stopped watching, which makes sense as you identify it as a slump. It’s very motivating to hear it get better. Now I can finally finish this show!!
Oh and because I did make it to the end of this video… my favorite episode is Window of Opportunity, I’m just trash for time loop stories. However the episode that still lives rent free in my head everyday but I will likely never be able to rewatch is Menace and pretty much everything to do with the Replicators. As a neurodiverse person they struck a super emotional cord with me.
