Gollum is definitely not the Jar-Jar Binks of LOTR. Actually, he is a very well written fleshed out character with depth. He personifies the struggles of addiction, loneliness, and anxiety.

@@Mr._E._Shark Tbh, I can't blame the people that hated his first unveiling. As he was shown, he was useless and annoyingly untouchable. You were MEANT to feel pissed off about him. And then have your mind blown when he was the *real* phantom menace and played everyone for fools. The real person I'm mad at is Lucas for not having the balls to play it through to the end, utterly ruining his character and making any justification for his stupidly goofy behavior fizzle out entirely.
On the other hand, when he compared Gollum to Jar Jar, my only response was, "No, no he's not"
You've got to love that one orc type that just screeches for thirty long, long seconds every single time he appears.
Especially the seventeenth one you murder your way through on the way to literally anything else in the game.

Theres a big difference between gollum and jar jar, mostly ones antics where endearing and entertaining and actually had an intended purpose in both the books and movies. The other is pointless shameless pandering to children that even children don't like him and had a shoe horned cameo in the sequel and if you removed him nothing would change significantly.

The entire plot of the game is literally about how you are just as bad, celebrinbor/the wraith at the least, with Talion actually going his own way and basically doing an evil VS evil thing.
It's honestly the one thing I 100% enjoy about the game, that they actually went there.

Anyone else notice that there was no issue with your slaves betraying you when it was just Talion and Celebrimbor, but now that they have this "perfected" ring orcs are now suddenly able to muster the willpower to conquer a ring of power's hold over them? So either the ring is making you weaker or orcs have become stronger than ringwraiths in terms of will.
Gotta give you reasons to consider buying orcs
There were only 2 zones in the first game and they boiled down to kill the warchief after killing/ converting captains. I assume them betraying you was introduced to mix things up in SoW, though a lore reason would be this is a while after the first game and sauron is prepared or you
And in a way maybe you are actually weakened a bit. If you consider that Celebrimbor put an essence of his life force to create the new Ring and that somehow. Lose an army of Orcs you have already made. Also its different thing mind control that happens here and Sauron's domination with the Rings of power over the Ringwraiths that were Once men. For example Dwarves were not even affected by the Rings, just became greedy. So its possible for Orcs to join you and then betray you, only for the sake of survival.
They're a lot weaker at the start of SoW than at the end of SoM because Celebrimbor put most of his power into the new Ring. You might notice that you can't brand without it. My theory is that's why orcs can betray you now
If we wanna get technical about it, there are plenty of strong female characters in the Tolkien lore. Eowyn, Galadriel, Haleth, Luthien and Morwen are just a few. Maybe not as many in LOTR or the hobbit but in the silmarillion there’s plenty.

Silmarillion goes until after the War of the Ring. I even think it talks about the final battle of the world at the very end. It spans from the creation of the Valar until Aragorn's rule if not after

Even Tolkien admitted there aren't that many in Hobbit and LotR. Take Arwen: she's one of the worst-written females in all of literature, and he knew it. The movies tried to 'action girl her up', but admittedly there's only so much that can be done with a character like that. He wrotr _incredibly_ traditional female roles, and he tends to only ever have them in those books to drive the plot forward for other characters
Silmarillion is honestly where most of his best character development is though

Gollum in the books is great. Gollum in the movies is great. Gollum in any other LoTR related media is garbage. He serves no purpose in Middle Earth outside of his interactions with the hobbits. He just happens to be an easily recognizable character that doesn't require you to pay for likeness rights. Is he Jar-Jar? Not quite. He at least rocked in his movie. The extended media is misusing him and crapping on his legacy.

+SnowPhoenix Yeah, how dare a business try to make money!? I would never have expected a profit-driven company to do that! It's not like they have to pay dividends to shareholders or worry about enticing investors to make these AAA games.
That is the root of the problem, and the reason so many smaller game companies go bust or get bought out. AAA games cost as much to make as a Hollywood blockbuster these days, so they have to take less risks with the story and gameplay, and come up with ways to milk money from games, because if one game tanks the company will probably go under (unless it's a mega company like EA), and because they have to be able to show a steady, constant income to get investors to put their money behind the project. Not to mention the need to fund the millions they now have to spend on marketing.
Microtransactions are an utterly inevitable consequence of the upward trend of the cost of making video games. Until such time as the technology becomes cheaper, or gamers stop demanding ever better graphics and ever larger open worlds, then games will only get more expensive and microtransactions more pervasive.
Because guess what, they're a business and they HAVE to make money.

I loved this game, still play it off and on to ride a drake, kill some orcs, plunder some fortresses, and pit fight some orcs online.
The story was good for me, but easily comes 2nd to the fun you have in the open world killing orcs or dominating them.

Heck even Arwen stands her ground against the Ring Wraiths and summons an onslaught of water horses to ride them down.
Eowen isnt nearly as much of a figure in the books as in the movie, Galadriel basically bows out of the entire ring war, and Arwen didnt break the ringwraiths at the ford in the books, it was a male elf named Glorifindel
I don't really have a problem with people adding strong female characters to Tolkein after the fact, but let's not pretend that he wrote them in the first place

You make good points and it's honestly only after I wrote that comment that I read up in detail how the characters are in the books and found that you are indeed correct. They don't get to do as much as the film versions.
Still I'd argue that they are strong female characters particularly Eowyn. And in the Silmarillion their are heroic ones like Elf Maiden Lúthien

I beat the whole game within a few weeks and I dont have internet. The grinding isn't all that bad it's just repetative but once I hit the shadow wars section I didnt even need to grind at all. soooo...
I played the whole game 100 % and never noticed the microtransactions until people have told me that there are microtransactions. So who cares about them ?

He didn’t have many negative things to say because it’s a solid game. It’s original unlike most games. It designed its own nemesis system and made one of the best siege mechanics in games
Assassins creed should have copied that feature, watching new captains show up makes me curious about who would appear on my hit list.

One of the few games where grinding is fun , at least for me , due to that awesome nemesis system , it feels connected to even orcs , when u remember u faught him days ago and have killed various others in between , all unique and many are funny too xD
The only problem is it needed more humans in the game Mordor felt like a shreck apocalypse with all those orcs. If we had more humans I’m missions that would’ve been better. Still good game though.

The fighting and mechanics are better than the first but I still find SOM Morder and Nurn way more memorable than the new environments, probably because I spent over 150 hours on it. Everything is kind of congested now though. You got runes and the skill tree with points you got as the story progressed, now every peice of gear is customizable, the upgrades are way more complicated and skills you got last game. Having to pick between elf shot from draining orcs or domination is an annoying choice to have to pick from. Oh ya, don't forget the gems that are practically useless but for an obsessive collector like me are addictive as crack.

No the witch in the game is Shelob. What they were saying is in the lore there is no evidence that Shelob can change shapes. Her mother Ungoliant is the one that was a Maiar and can most likely change shapes

I feel like the person that wrote the script for this video only played the game for a couple hours or just looked at negative reviews online. The game was actually very solid and I found that I could sit down for hours and play this game without getting bored.

I've noticed there are differences in the quality and depth of the satire in their reviews between games I believe they've played and games they haven't.
If you watch their Shadow of Mordor honest trailer you can see how they have completely flipped their view. I don't understand how they can love the first one and support it massively and then just shit on this one. It's fucking ridiculous they have the same game mechanics with them slightly improved in the new game.
Because of the shitty and greedy practice of the publisher of this game. The loot boxes are worthy of scorn. The game is indeed solid, and just like the first, super fun. That said, I can't and won't forgive the greedy lootbox bullshit that this game and Battlefront are giving us.
I personally loved this game! I played the shit out of it until my Garrison was full of legendaries and my armies were all op legendaries...(plz make Garrison infinite so I can play again)
I got my overlord max lvl legendary he’s a rare spawn he’s got gold plating all over him
My garrison got full recently what I did was put my orcs against each other in the fighting pits to make space (excluding the orcs I'm sentimental about of course)

So I haven't played this game and don't know the full story, but I am a real Tolkien nerd and... does anybody else notice that the whole mind-slaving orcs thing is, quite literally, the reason why Aragorn, Gandalf, and Galadriel refused to take the ring? Because the point of the ring wasn't turning you invisible, it was about giving you what you want, exerting your will over nature and the minds and wills of others-- something obvious from how the ring manipulated even its bearer. Sauron used it to dominate the minds of his orc slaves and to fight against the forces of good, and had Aragorn, Gandalf, or Galadriel taken it, they would have been able to do the same thing.
This is all to say that... it seems that the protagonist in this game is, quite literally, the epitome of everything Tolkien's heroes refused to become.

The game really isn't that hard though, I 100% teh achievements without a single loot box and 70 hours of game play to be perfectly honest.
on what diffculty?
I did about the same on hardest difficulty. You can just conquer the orcs that are attacking your fortresses, no need for grinding for good ones.
They know that some people wont want to spend that time and just buy the loot boxes. They padded the game to sell you the ending faster. Thats shady af..

Actually Gollum is quite clever. He is not the jar jar of lord of the rings because he displays actual intelligence. Bilbo only escaped because he delayed Gollum with a question that he could not answer instead of a riddle. For awhile him and Gollum were evenly matched in the brains department and it was only when Bilbo was able to snag the ring that he was able to outsmart him. He even managed to Bargain with Shelob the spider who is known to eat anything that finds it's way into her lair.
