RIP Sidney Poitier (February 20, 1927 - January 6, 2022), aged 94 And RIP Elizabeth Hartman (December 23, 1943 - June 10, 1987), aged 43 You both will always be remembered as legends.
No better actress ever. She was astonishing. It hurts my heart to know her disease haunted her and eventually overcame her. She gave so much and wasn't even allowed to enjoy daily life the way so many of her fans do. RIP
This film spun convention on its head: The black man was the magnanimous one with education & resources and the white person was the downtrodden & deprived. I bet this made heads spin back in the 1960’a..I love this movie. Brilliant in its time and a must-see classic forever.
@@bullwinkle2380 She really was pretty. Because this is a black and white film, the audience couldn't tell that Selina (Elizabeth Hartman) was also a lovely redhead. Her hair was a beautiful color...
If you asked me who directed A Patch Of Blue a day or so ago - I couldn't have told you. I saw the film but Sidney Poitier was annoying me back then. One brilliant performance after another but the American backdrop of incessant racial hatred....... and welcome to 2022. Oh and is the writer of Black Boom...... Megyn Kelly? Really and writes for Wall Street Journal too? No offence Jason Riley. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton made a movie called Boom about the time they made the Taming of The Shrew. The Comedians and Dr Faustus in between I just noted. The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here anymore by Tennessee Williams? The Turnip truck we all fell off has just pass by though. Explain that to Ms Kelly someone.
Beautiful film. One of Sidney Poitier’s best performances. Farewell and rest in peace. We’ve lost a legend. 😢
Elizabeth Hartman more so
There are movies that are good and important. This is one of them.

Elizabeth Hartman....my cousin. An amazing actress haunted by her disease.

The Shelly Winters character and her drunk beau would be Trump supporters today!
