    Nah this is actually one of the best "coaching" videos I've ever watched. Went from an unusable forehand drive to usable with good potential after a small amount of trial and error. It was really helpful to see the different styles, get the one or two points on what makes that style, and then as you said not have any cues and just let my body work itself out. Often people throw around a bunch of cues and then they get in my head and end up having a negative effect.

At first I started throwing flexes with overstable discs because of my baseball background. Then one day I grabbed a fission photon with my mind set on skipping a rock instead of throwing a ball and the disc shot out of my hand dead straight with a gorgeous skip fade at the end. Agreed, starting to learn forehand with flippy discs is total trash advice. All discs will fly more understable forehand vs backhand because forehand imparts less spin relative to the throw speed. Brian Earhart has a really good vid on forehand fundamentals on the discraft channel. I mainly throw my zone and thunderbird for forehands, because they make it easy. But, I will also layup a Pure, Mako3, or Bounty with nothing more than a wrist flick. Anything more and they turn over from too much speed to spin.

    Great vid bud. There are so many ways to throw. Learn them all and you will get the most pleasure out of this beautiful game as possible. I see someone that says this one way is how to do it. I kinda shake my head a little. Weather they have a lower score than me or not. I believe in experiencing the game. Not the lowest score I can or I’m pissed. You my friend have not only a well rounded game but you really enjoy yourself. I can see it. I’ve been playing for 26 years. I’ve watched all different Disc Golfer on CZcams from the beginning to of the platform started. Still watch some, some I can’t fuckin stand. You are becoming a favorite. I thought about it today. The one reason I throw is to watch the disc do what humans have been obsessed with for ever. Fly. So many angles. They call a throw a patent pending because so many of us figured out on our own how to step out correctly and shape that shot. Now I’m rambling. Keep it up kid I think it’s good shit.

    Elbow leading was a great tip, I think the only thing that's more / as important is to make sure your fingerprints are flat against the rim of the disc. I feel like so many beginners / iffy forehanders have their fingerprints on the bottom of the flight plate & their range of motion in their wrist is basically non existent. You will never have a decent forehand until you get those fingers square on the rim

    I am a forehand-dominant player off the tee (rarely ever drive backhand due to knees). Started with a single index finger grip because it was all I could control in the beginning. When the single finger grip stopped being secure enough for the power I was putting behind my shots, I learned a 2 finger grip (Nate Sexton style) and it revolutionized my distance and the stability of my discs. Not only did the 2 finger grip allow me to transfer more power to the disc, but also introduce WAY more spin. Suddenly discs I used to hyzer-flip won't turn over and are flying farther. I get more spin and snap because my wrist is more active with the 2 finger grip. Had to relearn nose angle control when I switched, but its been worth it!

    10:21 Going in slow motion, and seeing your arm, I wish my shoulder would let me drive my elbow first like that. I want to throw forehand so badly, but I just don't think my body is designed to do it. Currently I throw my forehand from a sideways position to get a little bit of lag across my body because I can't bend my hand behand my shoulder. Do you think this is a viable way to generate some generic lag in my arm and at least get 200' or is this just a waste of time and should just focus on solid back hand turnover floaters?

    god i hate hearing that "learn to flick flippy discs"
    Someone who's learning is gonna immediately hate flicking and never try it again if they try flicking a DX cobra right out the gate.
    The skill will come. Go for practicality first, then go flippy as you get better

  • @MrFartknocker666
    @MrFartknocker666 Před rokem +1

    When you say "lead with the elbow", are you referring to aiming? I have a no run-up, 1 step forehand and i get more momentum from my hip and timing my elbow slightly behind it with wrist snap. Some may translate "lead with the elbow" as just using all arm. I know this isn't a form video as much as it is an introduction to form video, i was just curious. Frisbee Club decals would be sick BTW

    • @broderic
      @broderic  Před rokem +1

      I’ve realized after the fact that maybe some would interpret lead with the the elbow meaning elbow before hip. In my mind it just seems like a given that you lead with the hip, but in terms of the arm motion you lead with the elbow and not that hand. (This is why I’m not an actual coach I guess) so lead with hip but lead with elbow when it comes to the arm. Sounds like you have the right understanding of keeping the hip and elbow timing lined up🤝

    • @broderic
      @broderic  Před rokem +1

      I’d say with my form the part where I look like I roll it over is more of my follow through and not my actual release. The disc is already out of my hand when I “roll over”

    I throw flippy discs forehand for one main reason; it's easier on my surgically repaired shoulder. Coming over the top a little using something like a firebird just puts a lot of strain on the joint. Throwing something under stable like a sidewinder causes no pain at all and requires little effort for good distance.

    • @broderic
      @broderic  Před rokem

      100% if you have the ability to flick Flippy stuff you should. I just think for the person who has little to know knowledge or skill with the forehand, some neutral/stable is best so actually see improvement and enjoy the process.
