  • Alas, real-world work has got in the way recently, and so the Dad and Lad RC team have been a bit slack on the video front, but to keep our subscribers happy, here is a little cut from a quick beach expedition we did with our 1/24ths before we headed for home at the weekend.
Please like and subscribe if you enjoy our little videos - more to come in the near-future!
The Dad and Lad RC team love our small scale crawlers!

Great little video, I didn't expect the sand to move as much as it did with the light weight crawlers.
    Dual tumble was great 👍😁

Yeah, the soft sand gives them quite a challenge, even at their size. Yes, the dual-crash had to go in!

Thank you - the beach offers so many route options for these little fellas.

Mini crawlers like this are great fun but the latest generation of scale realistic hobby grade vehicles are just an excuse to charge a lot of money for something much smaller. Yes, I know they all need similar components but some of the mini trucks are not far off the price of a 1:10 scale RC truck. Look at a Kyosho Mini-Z 4x4 (1:24) for example and then compare it with a MN86S (1:12). Both are RTR but the MN is less than half the price!

That is why we like the SCX and Panda, and especially the FTX and that HobbyPlus, as they don’t break the bank, and with a bit of effort and creativity, can be made to look very scale accurate. All four of our Mini crawlers cost less than an FTX HiRock, which is next on Luke’s wish-list…

@@dadandladrc319 The FTX Hi-Rock is a nice looking truck but as you say, it is quite a bit more expensive. For my channel, I buy products that excite and interest me. But I have found that the more expensive products do not necessarily give you proportionally more views. If you are considering what to buy to make your channel successful rather than just buying something you like, it is a hard decision. Maybe you will get better results than me but the key is to enjoy the hobby first and foremost!

@@BlackSeaRC I totally agree. This channel is just a bit of fun for my son and I. Nice to get views and see the subscriber numbers grow, but the main thing is getting out there and having fun. Aim is to end up with two 1/24ths, two 1/18ths, two 1/16ths and two 1/10ths, so we both have one to use when we head out together on the trails. We have got the smaller end covered and - thanks to Liam - are halfway there on the 1/16ths. Budget restrictions currently mean we will have to wait for the 1/10ths, though! He was originally eyeing up a TRX4, so I consider it a win for the wallet that he is not looking at the HiRock! :) I quite fancy the Geo for me.

@@dadandladrc319 Good plan! The Traxxas would be a big investment plus it has been around for a while now so there are thousands of videos out there already featuring the TRX4 (which means a lot of competition). When choosing a model it is always a fine balance between something popular (lots of competition) or something more unusual (not such a big potential audience).
