I distinctly remember the fan jacket being used a lot in construction when I worked in Japan. The summer climate in Japan is brutal in terms of humidity and heat. It probably was not a purpose made western product, but a product that was made for Japan and them trying their luck at a broader market.

In Japan that style of fan jacket is really really popular in the summer. All local brands and stores sell them. You still sweat with them on, but it gives all your body a direct fan, so no matter how hot it gets it keeps you from overheating. It also is code in most trades to wear long sleeves all year round, hence it’s popularity here. I have used one as well, and depending on the brand/quality of the product, the high setting gets you around 5 hours of usage, while a lower setting can get you 12 hours or more of usage.

  • @geraldmoore6257

I'm a Makita fan boy, of sorts. I help in the house by doing the vacuuming. [My choice, I'm not hen pecked] I've always said that if Makita came out with a cordless upright house vacuum, I would buy it. Well, they did. It's heavy (the one negative) and it's powerful. A little pricey, but so are most good vacuums. At $700 it's not bad. I've had my XCV19 for about 4 months and it's a good home vacuum. I love the way the hose detaches for quick work of edges and crevices. Very powerful suction. Uses two LXT batteries. Now I'm thinking of getting a dual charger for the house. I have to take the batteries out to the workshop to charge them.

I bought the jacket with the fans as I work inside greenhouses during the summer. You will still feel hot as the fans blow hot air inside the jacket. However, even though it is still hot it makes the heat more tolerable and it lasts for 12 hours on the max speed. So you can have it on all days long (hours of work). If you combine the jacket with one of those neck fan then staying all day inside a greenhouse even when it’s over 100 degrees is possible and tolerable.
