And then he brought the team back for 2 back-to-back Stanley cups wins! Jon Cooper's the absolute goat
Against 2 fluke opponents in the finals
@@zachlesk5685 You don´t win cups by qualifying to finals automatically. There is a long tough road to the finals.
@@zachlesk5685 You think Dallas was a fluke? Hmm. Interesting take
@@EthanR01 absolutely. Colorado was down to their 3rd string goalie aka Michael Hutchinson.. a literal slice of Swiss cheese could’ve played better in net than Hutch, any other goalie and that’s an avalanche trip to the finals… and I’m not even as Avs fan that’s just straight fax
@@zachlesk5685 I guess i had forgotten that Hutchinson was in goal for colorado. But i do remember MacKinnon and Makar not playing to their full potential. Made Dallas,s defense look like gods in that series. But i thought Tampa was given a run for their money for a while with Dallas, all those overtimes and back and forths they were certainly more competitive than Montreal. THAT was a fluke
Stamkos/Kucherov/Point combined had 318pts combined this season
They had a total of 5pts in this series....and all 5pts were in this game
their stars didn’t show up....at all
Give credit to CBJ they were aware of the stars and shut it down.
@@321zero9 to be fair in the playoffs I feel like stars usually dont shine like they do in the regular season I mean it's usually more of a team effort due to the shutdown defences on special players
Rumor has it the stars do not like the coach...at all. Something stinks here, something is fishy, I would never imply they are trying to get him fired but its happened before, usually in the regular season lol but this elimination doesnt feel right to me. Something is off in Tampa.
Look at Crosby he’s rarely ever shutout of a playoff series
@@moneyhands2339 lol. Except his last one!
His team was not prepared for the post season. 128pt and you get swept...this is on the coach for not challenging his team.
its on him Stamkos and Kutcherov, there was zero intesity, they played like there was nothing on the line...total joke, mental cases all around. Cooper should go coach some female high school team ,thats about what he is suited for.
@Phix | how little you know about coaching.
@Phix yeah so he should just walk around saying , relax guys you highly paid pros, no need to do anything we fine? GTFO idiot...watch some old Red wings Championship videos where Scotty Bowman challenges every big star on his team..i guess he was wrong and YOU&Cooper are right
Don't play physical hockey in the playoffs you're out. Simple as that. Tampa hasn't learned this lesson year after year.
He said this playoff loss is a "blemish on a great regular season" 🤣😂 what a joke. What an embarrassment. He should be ashamed to even make that comment.
2:29 you can hear players or fans yelling
im trying not to laugh but damn thats funny lol
When your dad says he’s not mad just disappointed
He sounds way to content with the result. Saying that there’s parity in the league isn’t an excuse when you have a team that has the best regular season in decades get swept in the first round. Whether it’s a problem with the coaching, captain, or a deeper problem with the locker room culture, something needs to change. All series Tampa looked like they didn’t care. They seemed to believe that they were unbeatable, and it didn’t look like it registered until they were down early in this one that they might actually be done. There was no spirit in their game until it was too late. No excuses for that.
Flames_Fan_32 i totally agree. I thought i was the only one who felt that way. They just didnt play like they wanted to win. They looked really sloppy
CBJ wanted it more.
Blue Jackets earned their series win. Don't forget that.
Fo sho
WantedArgonianMale Absolutely. Columbus has been fighting for their lives over the past month, and they brought that tenacity with them into the playoffs. Tampa on the other hand hasn’t played a single meaningful game in that time period, and it showed here. Saying they weren’t prepared is the understatement of the century. Columbus played a fantastic series, and everything clicked at the right time for them, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of effort and emotion on the side of Tampa. They looked like they expected a free ride this series, but they ran into a brick wall instead.
very relaxed coach even after something so devastating very mature id be freaking out
he waited to long to shuffle the lines. Every player on that bench needs to be accountable. Cooper was out coached in every aspect of this series. This team never adjusted their game to compete. CBJ adjusted their game and everyone contributed
The lightning is basically an all star team. When you watch the all star game you notice the score is super high, not much defense. The lightnings game is fast fast fast, speed, quick passes, keeping the other team on their heels. I knew when Cooper said we blew a 3 pt lead and that we needed to be able to protect our own end, we were going to have problems. The speed was no longer there, our top lines werent going balls to the walls, instead they were worried about getting caught to deep and giving up a goal. Had they played full speed with disregard to defense im sure we would have given up 3 or 4 goals but we would have scored 4 to 6 goals like we did during the regular season. We came back from many 2+ pt deficits in the 3rd period during the season because we out skated everyone in the league and basically wore them down.
As a Season Ticket holder for 10 years this is the biggest sports collapse in history in my opinion. They didn't get beat they got mugged. There is no excuse. How can i go to the rink next year and if they win A GAME, am I supposed to cheer and jump up and down? Its the fans who are hurt. We don't have million dollar contracts. We pay good money and have no value. They did not make any changes at the trade deadline as they were content with this team. Really? I wonder what would Stevey Y would have done had he been here.? Someone must Pay!
JR said it best, Tampa was not tested the last month of the season, they had allready clinched so they did not feel that playoff intensity other teams were feeling down the stretch to clinch their spots and that cost them!
Back a year and a half later and after getting swept the year prior is now the head coach of the 2020 Stanley Cup Champions
Reminds me of 2012, when the Vancouver won the presidents trophy and lost in 5 games to the kings in the first round.
Vancouver was trash tho. Tampa got insane talent lool
Vancouver may have won the presidents trophy but no one thought they'd win the cup with their aging roster
@@hakimjackson9391 they were one win away from winning the cup the previous season, so that's a lie. A lot of people thought they could get back and win it.
@@deadmansrevenge5327 im a nucks fan and i sure as hell didnt think they would win 1 series in 2012
Not enough grit and all pure skill. This is the playoffs folks! You thrive with both and not only 1 of the mentioned.
This aged perfectly.
Lmao you can hear people cheering in the background if you listen carefully throughout the vid
That's all I can hear now
The bluejackets
Don't think they should fire Cooper. Look at the Washington Capitals, they won the presidents trophy in the 2016-2017 season, went all in at the deadline by acquiring the number one defenseman (Shattenkirk) on the trade bait board to put themselves over the top in regards on the best chance at winning the Cup and were heavy favourites to win the Cup, and they got out in the second round... Most GMs would fire their coach after losing in the second round 3 straight years in a row, but they didn't and then Barry Trotz went on to coach the Caps to win the Stanley Cup the next year when no one had them winning the cup due to their history in the playoffs. Also, totally agree with Cooper on saying they never were playing meaningful hockey because it is true, they were winning so much due to their talent that it was a norm and games were basically like another day on the job for the players. Therefore, when they got to the playoffs it truly showed. Also, winning the presidents trophy is a curse and no one can tell me different. It has been 11 years since a team that won the presidents trophy after 82 games went onto win the Cup.
His lack of concern pisses me off! Tampa fans and players deserve better. Players need to be pushed. They need they motivation to get over the hump. When Kuch or Stammer didnt give it to them then MAN THE F UP and MOTIVATE. I was at game 1 and 2 and want my $ back. The fans deserved way more then this!
This guy will speak with the same tone when he's being fired by the GM.
@Interesting Vibes if Coach Q can be fired midseason after 3 cups, anyone can be fired
He signed a multi-year extension less than a month ago sooooo, no.
@Interesting Vibes hes soft af
@Rejean Nowlan apparently
He seems like he’s careless he just stands there during games chewing gum
Coop, it might not be 100% unusual for an 8 to beat a 1 these days, but for a 97 point team to clap a 128 point team, that’s unheard of 🤦🏽♂️😂
Jon Cooper’s tone is flatlined. Tampa buried themselves with that multi-year contract extension. Moreover, it just doesn’t sound like he even cares at this point. He lost his adrenaline in game 1, and lacks a combative spirit that a head coach should have. 12 years is enough, that bench needs a new makeover.
Amen
Spectrum Lost control in dressing room. Time for change
Moreover 😂
12 years of what?
The gum chewing is more important for this coach! Have some energy and show your players passion, specially when they are down!!! Even if the main defenders Hedman and Stralman were injured! Even if you let game one get away! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS!!! Enough is enough!!! So so much talent not coached with the intensity needed during the playoffs! 5 playoff runs since 2014 with this guy chewing gum and no Cup!!!! Love this team, but it was such a letdown for every fan that admired the way they performed this year! So so sad to see! I will not set my expectations high on our Bolts until they FIRE HIS ASS!!!!!!
President's Tr0-4hy
A 4 is an “A” not a “P” 🙄
MoneyHands23 why ruin a good joke?
@@ChiefBlue4298 it’s not a good joke 😂
It's hard to hate on Cooper. He’s a great coach. Columbus just had their number. It’s like Tampa came in way too overconfident and got rattled after that game 1 loss.
Really? Because i bet a lot of people are hating right now. He did absolutely nothing for 4 games. Once the Jackets were playing really defensive in the corners and bars, he had absolutely no counter for it. I wasnt rooting for this team at all and i still think he was the sole reason they lost.
Thank youuu. Finally someone understands what actually happens 😂👌🏼
damien kehler that’s the type of coach Jon Cooper is. In 2018 the Bruins top line handed the Point line’s butts to them in game 1. Coop believed in his men and kept them on that bruins line. And they won 4 straight. Coop thought he could stay like that even 3-0 down. You can’t. That’s the lesson he needs to learn.
*SHOW THAT RING COACH!!*
Cooper after back-to-back Stanley Cups watching this. 😂
B team didn’t beat A team. THEY DISMANTLED THEM CLEANLY!!!! Still played a team that was ranked half way down the ranks. NO EXCUSES!!!
There is no way Tampa goes into next season with the same team (both management side and players)
Stevie Y already left as GM.
maxpowr90 he saw it coming 🤭
Trade Kucherov
Yeah they cant even afford to keeo the team
@@grenadePQ Dumbest comment of the year.
Such disrespect to Columbus in the comments section. Teams have to lose to the winner. Columbus winning 4-0 isn’t ALL Tampa’s fault. Columbus has to play well for that to happen.
I can't believe they got swept because they were Presidents trophy winners plus my Midwestern Columbus blue jackets were wild card and struggled to get into the playoffs heads will roll in Tampa Bay
He brings up a valid point. i was expecting a cup for Tampa and Washington gone in 2nd round. and they won the cup. that is kinda funny lol
This year highlighted TB for last 5 years, a good team, great this year but still lack the grit and personnel to go deep.
Great teams have depth scoring, where were lives 3-4, where was the tempo imposing 4th line. Yes we can all look at their top 3 players... but that’s just one line.
Why he is using Washington as an example?? 100% coach is weak. Overall his whole presser it's every reason he can come up with justifying how they lose due to outside factors.
i said it last year the lighting have tremendous talent at the forwards but they have too many finesse players and they get pushed around too easy i was hoping they brought in Pacioretty last off season that would have really helped them in this series
Hey Columbus, no matter how bad you beat us you still have no Cup wins and now we have a 2nd lmao
Edit: 3rd
Biggest NHL choke ever. Ever.
Nah.....The Bruins blowing a 3-0 vs Flyers in 2010 NHL Playoffs.
And sports history
Our players are scared to get hit, we used our speed all season. But in the playoffs columbus was sacrificing defence for big hits and it worked out great. Wish I was coach get this message out
If it was my team I'd keep a select few players and REBUILD around them. This team needs to be shaken up.
Stanley Cup Champions 2020!
Well done, Coop!
*STANLEY CUP CHAMPION BABY!!*
Columbus was easily the better team in this series, and worthy of its victory. The Blue Jackets had been in playoff mode for over a month, fighting to secure a berth in the post season. Tampa, as Cooper said, coasted toward the playoffs. Winning the President's trophy is a curse of sorts; it is hard to climb upward when you are already on the top of the mountain. The Blue Jackets showed tremendous discipline, and did an excellent job of frustrating Tampa's top players, getting under their skin without taking dumb penalties. Kucherov's lack of impulse control in Game Two put a serous dent in any hopes the Bolts had of bouncing back after going down 2-0. With Columbus' series win and Tampa's sudden exit, the road to the Stanley Cup is wide open. Should be a fun ride.
BINGO!!!
Well said my friend.
His voice is so soothing!

What the heck man I was searching Jon Cooper from SKILLET not some sports stuff.
Talking about 2015, that was 4 years ago.
Sometimes you need a losing slump during the season to learn how to battle back. Better than learning it in the playoffs.
"Columbus outplayed us, outclassed us. That's it." That's what you should have said right at the start. You didn't have to babble for 5 minutes before you actually admitted it. 5:08
Thinking about philosophical excuses does not get you out of the embarrassment of having the most points in the season then got outclassed and outplayed since 2nd period of game one.
Can't handle the pressure. This is sad :'(
This team will be dismantled. I'm a Red Wings fan seen this in 95 but at least it was an attempted cup run. You can tell he's a lost for words.
lmao the Oilers or the Sabers are the teams getting dismantled, the lightning management knows that they have an extremely talented core they just need a better leaders
Idiot
Could this be the year where a coach wins the Jack Adams then gets fired? Or worse, fired before he could go claim his award. His team never had to face any real adversity all season due to their sheer dominance, they overlooked their opponent to the highest degree, they probably were already making game plans for the next round before this round even started, and when things started to derail they just had no idea on how to battle back and overcome the obstacle. Future contenders please take note from this "historic team".
Note taken. By Jon Cooper #back-to-back
This coach talks like a politician! No feeling...
I understand that he is dissapointed, but to me, he looks like he's at the top looking down... He don't get the rage in the win... He's like a chess player, calculate the move... no feeling.
I prefer Torto who shake players to get the best of them. Cooper is not a playoffs coach like his team. In playoffs, you have to fight for every goal.
We will see if this playoff's lesson will pay in the future!
pinkyfloydyfan1 you don’t need to scream to show emotion. Jon cooper is a calm person.
To be calm is a good thing but i think that he take not the blame for himself. He fail to upgrade the playing of his men... seem to me that he take that from his throne... He took a kick at his ass from Torto, nothing less. He has now a page in the league history... Stamkos is not a good captain. Shame on those two... They don’t even win a single game!!!
pinkyfloydyfan1 Stamkos isn’t relevant to this conversation. Wearing the C on your jersey isn’t due to how good you are. It’s there to show leadership. U don’t know what goes on in that locker room. So stop saying that. I never said that Coop did well in the series either. Losing this many times with this roster isn’t the players fault. Stamkos is a franchise player. He scored in an elimination game. A player can only take a whole team so far. It’s shame on the whole team for not winning a game. Not just one player and the coach, although yes Coop should take a majority of the heat for that. Getting swept 4-0 is the whole teams fault. Look at Giodarno, Foligno, Toews, Chara, Williams. Those players aren’t the best on their teams. They are all captains. If Captains were based on skill, wouldn’t Kane be the captain of the Blackhawks? Wouldn’t Marchand, Bergeron, or Pasta be the captain of the Bruins? Wouldn’t Panarin be the captain of the jackets?
Of course it’s a team failure, a team lose, BUT something happens in that room because a so talented team like this should not be swept like that. They don’t even were near of a win!!!
pinkyfloydyfan1 your right, but games 1 and 4 were close. Tampa battled in game 4 and coughed up empty netters at the end
Tampa getting swept sure softens the blow in Pittsburgh. That said both the Pens and Bolts were embarrassed. Losing is one thing. Getting swept is sorry.
Not as surprising as people think that CBJ won, although it surprising they got swept. Still a lot of people wrote off Columbus and didn’t even consider that they have three very good scoring lines after adding Duchene, Dzingel, and calling up Texier and they are a very tough physical team that is built for the playoffs: they just needed time for the new additions to settle in, and Texier has been great for them early on.
Tampa though slept on them and although maybe you think you can put in Cooper, the entire Lighting roster played like they were automatically going to sweep Columbus and win the cup. They learned a lesson as a team and I’m sure they’ll be back for another 50+ win season and a one seed next year and will probably not let the same thing happen again, and maybe that comes with a coach change.
hats off to cbj’s gm, he traded his way to this series win
Thank the Senators for being in a rebuild
I like Jon Cooper, but he seems to be completely missing how badly his team got their asses handed to them.
Dear John
Honestly felt like the team didn't care that they made it, no drive, nothing. "Couldnt find our game" you had your game all season and then just randomly disappears... ok lol.
Of course they couldn’t find their game, Columbus took it away from them.
at least they have the rays
Presidents trophy curse
It's crazy
Question is, while this is obviously worse than a normal team just losing in round 1, is this more embarrassing than not getting in the playoffs at all? Sure it sucks, but you also don't get humiliated if you don't get in so...idk
Much more humiliating because everyone knows and is talking about it
Tampa got big headed, didn’t expect to have to play hard until the Conference finals as a tune up for the Cup final.
Dear Fans,

The Mark Richt of the NHL
never gave columbus any credit..... classless
Is it possible that Tampa tried too hard in the regular season and were tired for the playoffs. They could’ve lost 20 points and still won the league
If there was an Award for "Greatest Failure" The 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning would be a Shoo-In
Okay Stars fan
Yzerman knows a bit about being the dominant favourites to win it all only to get swept by an underdog team that knows how to the play the trap. Poor guy's probably having flashbacks.
Devils 1995!!
Don't forget sharks in 94, ducks in 03 and oilers in 06 haha
Yzerman is not the GM anymore - hardly think he's having flashbacks
Very similar to what happened to the 2005-06 Red Wings. Dominate and then get crushed.
Haven’t seen someone choke that hard sense that one with Mia khalifa and the two black guys.

@@Takhar7 why not? I'd have done it in the middle of the night. Don't even wait for morning.
Probably because he’s a good enough coach to turn this into consecutive Cup wins.
Just proves the incalculable injury loss of Hedman and Strahlman. Those are their top two D-men. Nonetheless- Columbus is on a roll - and they played superlative- got to hand it to them- what can you do?. Maybe they should swap draft positions for compensation. Also an argument for the season to be about twenty games shorter!

Disappointing end to an incredible and entertaining season. They played some of the most prefect hockey I've ever seen, I played for many years and watched for the last 50 and this team is amazing, no shame in being the best regular season.
Progressively worse exits. Washington also changed HC a few times. We r stuck with this goof. Exactly what does he do? Not an Xs n Os guy,, not a motivator whats he do?
Injuries to hedman hurt them.
Who’s here after they’ve become defending champs going into round three!
Who wants to set the over under on the amount of days he has left with the lightning?
LMFAO Columbus is beast team !!! whoohoo underdogs good for them they won this series
Columbus just wanted it more, Tampa was just burnt them selves on the season.
their hubris got the best of them
It was as if the team was so used to winning they didn't know what to do when they started losing.
Yes. Lightning not used to the other team fighting back. Thought the CBJ would fold. Big mistake in the playoffs.
It’s hard to win? YOU GUYS HAD HOW MANY WINS IN THE REGULAR SEASON?
Playoffs are totally different though. Not even a fan of tampa..but definitly feel bad for them
Playoffs is a different beast my friend. Wins in the regular season don't mean anything.
Hedman (not being even close 100%) and Strålman were huge losses. I guess there were injuries in forwards too. And Columbus becoming the best version of them in the right time sure didn't help TB
No excuses. Tampa had no fight and got in their own heads. Disappointing but got to come back real strong next year cause this is one of the biggest upsets in pro sports history.
I give Cooper some credit for facing the press after such an embarrassing & devastating defeat...
Jon cooper needs to be harder on the lightning. He needs to be more fired up during gametime
Amazing how out of touch with reality he is. He think this series was close minus the power plays.....
Most overrated coach in Hockey, maybe all of Pro Sports. Can you make any more excuses for yourself and your team Jon? Embarrassing
