    He sounds way to content with the result. Saying that there’s parity in the league isn’t an excuse when you have a team that has the best regular season in decades get swept in the first round. Whether it’s a problem with the coaching, captain, or a deeper problem with the locker room culture, something needs to change. All series Tampa looked like they didn’t care. They seemed to believe that they were unbeatable, and it didn’t look like it registered until they were down early in this one that they might actually be done. There was no spirit in their game until it was too late. No excuses for that.

Tampa on the other hand hasn’t played a single meaningful game in that time period, and it showed here. Saying they weren’t prepared is the understatement of the century. Columbus played a fantastic series, and everything clicked at the right time for them, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of effort and emotion on the side of Tampa. The lightning is basically an all star team. When you watch the all star game you notice the score is super high, not much defense. The lightnings game is fast fast fast, speed, quick passes, keeping the other team on their heels. I knew when Cooper said we blew a 3 pt lead and that we needed to be able to protect our own end, we were going to have problems. The speed was no longer there, our top lines werent going balls to the walls, instead they were worried about getting caught to deep and giving up a goal. Had they played full speed with disregard to defense im sure we would have given up 3 or 4 goals but we would have scored 4 to 6 goals like we did during the regular season. We came back from many 2+ pt deficits in the 3rd period during the season because we out skated everyone in the league and basically wore them down.

    Don't think they should fire Cooper. Look at the Washington Capitals, they won the presidents trophy in the 2016-2017 season, went all in at the deadline by acquiring the number one defenseman (Shattenkirk) on the trade bait board to put themselves over the top in regards on the best chance at winning the Cup and were heavy favourites to win the Cup, and they got out in the second round... Most GMs would fire their coach after losing in the second round 3 straight years in a row, but they didn't and then Barry Trotz went on to coach the Caps to win the Stanley Cup the next year when no one had them winning the cup due to their history in the playoffs. Also, totally agree with Cooper on saying they never were playing meaningful hockey because it is true, they were winning so much due to their talent that it was a norm and games were basically like another day on the job for the players. Therefore, when they got to the playoffs it truly showed. Also, winning the presidents trophy is a curse and no one can tell me different. It has been 11 years since a team that won the presidents trophy after 82 games went onto win the Cup.

    Columbus was easily the better team in this series, and worthy of its victory. The Blue Jackets had been in playoff mode for over a month, fighting to secure a berth in the post season. Tampa, as Cooper said, coasted toward the playoffs. Winning the President's trophy is a curse of sorts; it is hard to climb upward when you are already on the top of the mountain. The Blue Jackets showed tremendous discipline, and did an excellent job of frustrating Tampa's top players, getting under their skin without taking dumb penalties. Kucherov's lack of impulse control in Game Two put a serous dent in any hopes the Bolts had of bouncing back after going down 2-0. With Columbus' series win and Tampa's sudden exit, the road to the Stanley Cup is wide open. Should be a fun ride.

      pinkyfloydyfan1 Stamkos isn’t relevant to this conversation. Wearing the C on your jersey isn’t due to how good you are. It’s there to show leadership. U don’t know what goes on in that locker room. So stop saying that. I never said that Coop did well in the series either. Losing this many times with this roster isn’t the players fault. Stamkos is a franchise player. He scored in an elimination game. A player can only take a whole team so far. It’s shame on the whole team for not winning a game. Not just one player and the coach, although yes Coop should take a majority of the heat for that. Getting swept 4-0 is the whole teams fault. Look at Giodarno, Foligno, Toews, Chara, Williams. Those players aren’t the best on their teams. They are all captains. If Captains were based on skill, wouldn’t Kane be the captain of the Blackhawks? Wouldn’t Marchand, Bergeron, or Pasta be the captain of the Bruins? Wouldn’t Panarin be the captain of the jackets?

      Of course it’s a team failure, a team lose, BUT something happens in that room because a so talented team like this should not be swept like that. They don’t even were near of a win!!!

    Tampa getting swept sure softens the blow in Pittsburgh. That said both the Pens and Bolts were embarrassed. Losing is one thing. Getting swept is sorry.

  • @mttzakr23
    @mttzakr23 Před 5 lety +1

    Not as surprising as people think that CBJ won, although it surprising they got swept. Still a lot of people wrote off Columbus and didn’t even consider that they have three very good scoring lines after adding Duchene, Dzingel, and calling up Texier and they are a very tough physical team that is built for the playoffs: they just needed time for the new additions to settle in, and Texier has been great for them early on.
    Tampa though slept on them and although maybe you think you can put in Cooper, the entire Lighting roster played like they were automatically going to sweep Columbus and win the cup. They learned a lesson as a team and I’m sure they’ll be back for another 50+ win season and a one seed next year and will probably not let the same thing happen again, and maybe that comes with a coach change.
