Why do these people just talk about how crazy ARMYs are for BTS? For once, can we talk about how crazy BTS is for ARMYs? 😂 Like literally, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single video of them not mentioning the fandom. The love between ARMYs and BTS is mutual. 💜
This is why I have huge respect for people who have been there for bangtan since the start. They have been doing everything they can, being nice to people who deserve none of that, facing harsh words n criticism. I love army becoz of everything they do! Also i am even more proud of LGO #1 coz life goes on had just 6 spins in radio and still we got #1, thats the power of army and a consistent organic fanbase.
Also i love ur laugh abt the dance question 😂😂 some lf these interviewers r like so out of it like they have never heard anything of the artist but they need to get paid so they r just sitting in that chair asking nonsense
ahahaa yes it was really tough at that time... seriously we had to grit our teeth and keep a fake smile through it all because we couldn't afford to let our reaction show. We couldn't afford to do anything which might jeopardise Bangtan's extremely slim chance at success. It wasn't easy. Sometimes the way these DJs acted, it felt like we were bowing towards people and thanking people who were spitting on us, but we kept going because we the world needed to know Bangtan, and there was no other way to do it. I've been an Army since 2013 (I can't thank my luck and youtube recommendations enough to let my find them roughly 1 month after debut 😁💜) , and gosh, I can't even count how many times I got upset and was crying because of how Bangtan got treated. I really didn't care when we got called toxic, crazy, delusional, this and that. Who cares? But is it really that hard to give an artist, group or soloist, (even if they are rookies) the minimal amount of respect out of simple human decency? I just can't comprehend how cruel some can be, it really breaks my heart...
@@Happiness._.514 I know, and that's the reason i don't really like watching american interviews, because most of the time it's just the same, repetitive thing. Sometimes I really think "OMG let me just do it!" Honestly, I can't wrap my head around the fact that we armies are so familiar with them, and even we could have some really decent questions to have a good conversation for an interview. How can someone who doesn't know them at all, have no questions whatsoever?

And this is EXACTLY the same with the Grammys. BTS and Hybe do not wine, dine and schmooze the Grammy panel members. Just like these so called 'DJ's', I bet very few of the Grammy panel have really listened to a variety of their music, been to a concert or read their lyrics. It is truer than ever, BTS don't need radio or Grammys, they need BTS. 💜 (note I only want a Grammy for Suga!)
and this is why, Shiki, BTS and ARMY only have each other. we climb up to the top by ourselves, with our own blood, sweat, and tears out of our sincere love for BTS. we fly high so that no one can touch us, not even lay their fingers on us. people who don't know might just think that we've already reached that point and that we got it easily, but you know, only BTS, ARMY and BigHit at this point truly know that it's not the case at all. literally almost everyone is against us and we went through a lot. but see? we always got this because the universe knows how genuine BTS are, how sincere they are, how kin-hearted they are. tho many people are against them, the universe loves them. and in the end, BTS' achievements and numbers are all natural and equal in all aspects. streams? sales? the numbers are equal. we're talking about real life events such as concerts or shows, no matter how many seats are available, they're all sold-out and even had a high demand to add another day. while those artists who did payola? okay, they got streams and airplays, but when it comes to real audience? silence. it's non-existent for them. shame on them.
and for us, we'll keep on playing fair. no matter how hard those poeple try to silence us or make us stop, we won't play dirty. we'll keep on flying with our beautiful wings together.
And the media has the audacity to say that Army manipulate the charts and compare us to bots, but all that we're doing it's appreciate their good music and BTS as the talent artists they are 💜
Tannies, HYBE and BigHit will never compromise themselves coz they trust the work they do and trust A. R. M. Y to support, love and respect them and vice versa.
As someone who grew up with the radio as the main form of music consumption, I was horrified to find out that this existed (as well as realising that the radio play didn’t equal what was being bought and streamed), and stopped listening to the radio altogether. My gen z children don’t listen either. I can safely say that my generation is the last to consume the radio format. Payola killed the radio star.
I stopped listening to radio, I'm not gonna listen if they won't play what I wanna hear. What's the point?
Army know more about how the music industry works than other any other fan. Part of the problem is that we want BTS on the radio, we want people exposed to their music. Every army can easily talk about the impact BTS has had on our physical life and mental health. 💜You nice Shiki, keep going✊

So proud of BTS and Hybe for achieving success honestly through their talent dedication hardwork & determination. This is the reason they have such dedicated fans (ARMY) that no other artist or artists can compete with. They have won so many awards and achievements but the greatest prize they won is the hearts of millions of fans from all over the world. I also cannot believe that the artists from companies involved in these corrupt deals themselves do not know this practice exists when info like this is accessible.

the American industry is definitely very corrupt but so is the Korean music industry. mediaplay and paying for chart manipulation is very common there too, which is what Jin was referring to in that speech. that's why it's so impressive they've been able to top both industries despite being at a disadvantage!
Thanks for this post. It isn't just the US. There are many reasons for this that the video does not explore. I am not saying that there is no corruption. My point is that to truly understand the situation requires critical thinking. I am an army and love BTS but this seems designed to create outrage when the problem is complex and deserves a reasoned response. BTS are not the only victims. Consider that voting multiple times and creating multiple accounts to do so is not exactly "honest" and is not exactly a true reflection of popularity or talent. I hope someday that BTS is evaluated for their artistry and not the number of clicks. As they said in "Yet to Come," they are not about it. Perhaps ARMY too should focus on the art. Just my opinion. 💜
@@louisegerdes6283 I don't know if you were there 'in the trenches' of requesting for radio during those years, but seriously the things said in this video are true, not an exaggeration at all! We had huge organised teams of people doing scheduled requests round the clock, voting, sending letters and gifts etc. and we were turned down over and over again even when our numbers (real numbers, real people, not fake accounts) were overwhelming. We had ARMYs who were ending up in tears of frustration when DJs point-blank told them "no matter how many of you call we're not playing them," and "we don't care how popular they are we don't play music that's not in English," "we don't do kpop" etc. Stations would run request polls and when ARMY won by 99% over US artists, and flooded them with 1000s of replies they would delete the poll and act like it never happened. The disparity in radio spins compared to sales and streams was OUTRAGEOUS. As in BTS would be selling 5-10 times as many albums/singles in the US than another artist (showing how genuinely popular they were at the time), but the other artist would get 6000+ spins in the same time period BTS got 6 spins. Literally 6 spins. Throughout all this, those SAME stations would constantly tweet about BTS multiple times a day, farming clicks and follows. They would promise spins, ask for a certain amount of new followers in exchange for spins, and then delete tweets with no spins in sight. It was endless. There's so much more this video didn't even cover. All of this is exhaustively documented by ARMYs if you care to look.
I agree critical thinking is always important, but this comment seems like you're just trying to dismiss the very real, documented experiences ARMY has from the last few years as 'manufactured outrage' when it's anything but that. Personally I stopped caring about radio a long time ago because of the relentless corruption I saw first hand, and all I care about at the end of the day is enjoying Bangtan's music. But your comment seems... passive-aggressively dismissive. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you here, but it's difficult to see this waved away as some kind of oversimplified manufactured outrage when I was there and I saw it happen.
Thank you for this video and your honest reaction, as always. BTS deserves better. BTS has *always* deserved better. I think the reason these radio flunkies keep going after ARMY is because they're afraid of us. They know that we're powerful, and they want an ARMY of their own. As the saying go, "They hate us 'cause they ain't us." Every time someone bad mouths ARMY in the West, though, Namjoon steps right up and defends us as firmly as we defend them. You're very right that there's no relationship like BTS x ARMY anywhere in the world. They've got us, and we've got them, and together we are bulletproof.
I remember when all those interviews were happening back in 2017 and I was just so happy for the "attention" the boys were getting from US media...but then, watching it a second time, after the euphoric moment, I realized how much they had to put up with.
Very few interviewers showed any interest in their artistry and music or were prepared at all for a proper interview. And it is worth remembering that BTS have always been very respectful and kind in these radio interviews. I'm really glad with this new format for promotions.

Boracity magazine has some good content. They are fairly new, so I hope they have a successful YT run. I agree that radio play is really an outdated measure of a group's popularity or influence. Back in the day it was the only option. Like you, I rarely listen to radio.

Radio DJ was never on my "what I want to be when I grow up" list because I did not study music. But seeing the industry shown in this video, anyone can be a radio DJ!. If all of North America has excellent Wi-Fi or internet service, there is no need for radios stations anymore.
I don't listen to radio even in my car. I play BTS and other Playlist that I have created. I love BTS blood, sweat, tears, and hard-core values. There can never, ever, ever be another BTS. Groups like Earth, Wind, &Fire; Chicago, Beatles, Jackson 5 cannot be replaced but have become legends. That's why I will never listen to radio ever again because of the way they treated BTS. Payola has been around for years. Radio used to be relevant as everyone back in the day listened to radio. Back then not everyone had TV and when most people did have TV there was no cable TV. Then cable became big. I remember when Soul Train and MTV begin. Radio was still big and relevent at that time. By the time all the streaming services came radio knew they were dying out. The award shows are in cahoots with radio which is why awards now count radio play as part of awards or rather raised the percentage points for radio play. In the coming years radio will only be use as emergency broadcast. Radio is basically dead.

The award shows are there to create relevancy for some of their chosen artists. the masses, the gp don't really care, they just live their lives but when news of so and so winning big...that creates a perception in the general public eyes abt that artist. Like that's marketing/promo for the record labels artists.
i for sure believe that these dirty works have been offered to bts wether it's for radioplay or awards but they as an honest musicians who just love to do what they do refused to it. tae has even said before that they could've chosen to go for shortcuts but they took the long road of just working hard and being true and honest and i will forever be proud of bts for that. i will forever ride with my men fr.
By the way, this is all what StationHead (supposedly) is about and that's why we stream there: create your own radio show (you can just mute and put a playlist on, but you can talk too!) and that's why Hobi made an album listening with us there, because we brought that app from 3 downloads to hundreds of thousands thanks to Butter last year!

Ypu are so insightful. I really admire you, shiki! ✨ BTS is an amazing group. They dominate the industry in honest ways. Those corrupt crocs are most definitely aware of that.
It's about money, power and control. These are the 'people' that drive trends to herd us along. This has been going on for decades. Radio stations in American I think since the mid 2000s have been bought over by this media conglomerate. Radio DJs play a setlist that has been decide for. The requests are all a facade. Now streaming platforms are in on it too via their own curated playlistings. Record labels/radio/streaming platforms all use artists for their own gain. It's never abt art instead it's all abt money. It's the same everywhere in the world.
We’ve been fighting to get radio spins since DNA (at least hardcore since then). We didn’t get spins until Boy With Luv, and this was because it was a collab with Halsey. When ON came after BWL we expected at least some spins. It was a battle. We pushed ON to #4 by our sheer perseverance alone. Big Hit helped us (and themselves) by releasing multiple versions of the video that count as streaming. Big Hit decided not to play the corrupted way and gave us the tools to push by ourselves.
That is the reason I don't believe in awards and recognition until and unless there are people directly involved in it someway in any field💜💜

Sometimes it's about excluding artists who don't play by industry rules. Sometimes its about record labels getting all their artists on the charts. I think by not taking BTS seriously our guys made their own darn lane and kept everything in house, ex. Their own variety shows, vlogs etc. But now it's too late and now they are this whole different type of artist. Now people are looking at them trying to figure out the formula. Like Kevin Hart Said once, everybody want to be famous but don't wanna put in the work. Sorry this is so long

Also that Syke guy with a hair tweet had another interview with the boys and idk if you've seen it, but in that interview this weirdo was sitting the closest to Jimin and he kept moving closer to Jimin little by little and from Jimin's whole body language and expression it was clear that he was extremely uncomfortable. I didn't know about all these tweets from him, but he just got more disgusting in my eyes.

Well, they are absolutely correct about only listening to radio in the car, and I even only do that if I have a longer distance to drive and don't have my earbuds with me or something. As you know, I'm an older U.S. citizen and it really pains me the amount of corruption in the U.S.; however, it isn't only in the U.S. - it's everywhere. I was in a position where I had first hand experience investigating corruption overseas (I won't say where). Truthfully, I'm so thankful I am retired now!
Also, I believe the "break" BTS is taking has something to do with being under HYBE now (vs. just BigHit) AND all this stuff going on in the music industry. I don't know exactly, but even Jimin said in their dinner that "a lot has happened", and "It's a shame they can't talk about it" and "just trust us". I trust them (BTS) more than I've trusted anyone in a long time. I truly hope that everything goes their way as they wish, and that they can be together and happy going forward. Thanks for sharing this. I hope it goes viral with all the BTS reactors on CZcams (the numbers of which keep growing!), and that they recognize what is happening as you do!

Is that since when billboard change it's criteria HOT 100 only based on radio knowing that radio never give bts higher changes and now it's get harder for army's too

Honest, I am a little shock. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THESE GOINGS-ON AT RADIO. Not just with BTS but a systematic corruption problem. Strategically putting certain artists down and on the other hand stuffing other artists down our throats for Money. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY...that is sick.
And also the hosts not being prepared for the interview after inviting BTS to the stations that is unprofessional, insulting and condescending at the same time.

I believe the same thing happened in my country as well😒. I used to listen to radio when driving but I feel very annoyed when during the 30 minutes drive, there's only 2-3 songs being played. The rest either the DJ talking to each other or ads. The ads are insane. Actually the ads got more airtime than any songs...of coz because it's paid ads.
When I listened to radio, it's always the same song being played every slot. First I thought its because the song is new and very popular, but when I change to radio station that dedicated for retro songs, the same thing happened. Only selected old songs being played every slot. Come on...there's thousands of old songs to play. Even if there's no repetition, I still believe they can survive.
I've stopped listening to radio years ago. Now it's either CZcams or my personal playlist.
Some of the DJ is actually very good, they have passion in their work, but for the rest...sad to say...not worth to listen to😏.

Just today I was so stressed because apparently one artist's fans are really cheating for TFMAs.
They are literally buying votes in front of the eyes and even admitting to it without shame.

that is the best part of bts and army. we can do it all on our own we dont need to buy our way in the industry the industry invite us because we scream the loudest and they get curious but when they find out they can´t earn money from us than they move on. james gordan learned that the hard way and Fallon found out how awesome it is to be called a friend of army and same with halsey and coldplay. you see them interact with bts outside of music. going to restaurants and under the pandemic fallon was the only one who has a BTS week on his show. and that was huge. the other kpop acts who have performed on the american shows are less impressive. meaning that BTS puts so much effort into it and the other artist can´t do the same. remember how media talked about BP at the vmas? how was stiff they were how they lacked fan engagement. they expect other artist from korea to be like BTS but they are NOT. BTS pay alot of money for a simle performance other labels are not willing to to that.

As a Swede you can't count hearing other Scandinavian language songs on the radio because there's an agreement between the countries that they have to play a certain quota of the other countries' music. Tbh I've never heard anything on Danish radio that wasn't either English, Scandinavian or German. 😤
Its like the boys, OUR BOYS have struggled from the start and still doing it. But shiki see thats the thing, armys have struggled like them too, obviously less intense but trust me the hate is insane. and its from the lowest to the highest. general random ppl around us to radio DJ's hating on army for what i dont get it.😵💫 There are armys bullied in schools and public areas for wearing or carrying BTS merch, social media hate armys get all the time is insane. Every other fandom (no matter what happens) drags armys in the matter. Racist exist everywhere, we as a consumer have also the power to fight against racist in the music and film industrie. That's why BTS is so important for people of color. We never had a black boyband or a latino boyband, wich were successful worldwide. I do not call BTS a boyband, they are in their own genre!!

I haven't listened to Radio since Wolfman Jack and Casey Cass retired. DJ's these days have no Integrity. They should not be involved in the Music Awards Criteria they should stick to Talk shows.

The artists probably didn't have a choice.. they are tied to their contracts. Unlike Korean idol contracts which goes by years 5/7/10 contracts...American recording deals to my knowledge..is tied to the number of albums they HAVE to release while under contract. And get this.. the record labels have the power to not release albums for their artists...so the artist is stuck want to release but they literally can't. Music industry is dirty . I knew abt this since the 90s and I never cared abt the popular stars/music because everything is manufactured..until BTS..with BTS it feels like we're going against the systems. It's kind of punk rock, yeah. That's why I support Bamgtan.. my subversive rebels.

I loved a couple of interviews in my life: when they are asked about their music, about their interests (art, jazz, fishing, whatever) and when they are asked about their different activities (donations, involvement, unicef). NOT when they are asked about army AS IF they are famous because we hype them and not because they deserve it ¬¬ grrrrrrr the syke guy doesn't have more than 5 likes in any of his tweets anyway, he's a nobody.

Shiki, it is very sad n emotional about Music Industry all corrupted. Don't worry, BTS is still shining n their music is meaningful to listening to it. I don't listen to other band rather than BTS, UB40 or Lucky Dube. I turned of the radio in my car then use my Blue tooth n play BTS songs wheever I go all day all night. Great music n Lyric doesn't have to be always in English.
These makes me wondering if it is happening in my country because some radio stations keep spinning the same songs several times and I got annoyed because the song sometimes is not even that good. I thought it was just a normal thing in radio at first but after seeing this video, I'm suspicious.

it's interesting that u didn't to know what payola is... i know this shit since 90's, when (i think) the first big scandal about this explode. and at that point most of people didn't give a shit about this chart culture and and this practice became known by gp and exposed the dirt in this industry. i even think that laws against payola was create and that point tbh 🤔

I'm so glad you are getting more and more deeper into what everything means for ARMY, what we usually talk about in twitter. For some (instagram, tiktok, here in youtube) seems BTS is just rainbows and unicorns and they are winning here and there and they are wonderful and awesome and handsome. But the truth is out there, and the truth is: WE HAVE TO VOTE. WE HAVE TO BUY (in the amount we can, even 0.50), WE HAVE TO STREAM (free streams count less but they are streams nonetheless!).

I was just as flabbergasted as you when I first watched this video. I'm not from the US so I had no idea how radio stations worked there nor had the faintest clue that corruption was afloat so blatantly. Payola is an insane concept to me, and honestly? fine. Let them get their fake radio plays, and pay a hefty sum for it. That'll never get them organic achievements for their artists that way, but they seem too far gone to stop. I'd love for it to stop, don't get me wrong, but the measures needed in order to stop it... I don't know if they'll ever be able to completely make it work. I'm just glad BTS stayed away from the radio stations after all this back-stabbing. I do feel sad for the artists under those record labels, because at least some must feel terrible whenever their label's exploits come to light. I'm a casual fan of P!ATD and seeing it here made _me_ sad, at the very least.
You know the jokes on them, i work night duties mostly, sometimes forget to connect my phone to the car, so my car automatically switches to radio and if by any chance i hear bts i turn that shit all the way up, this happed when mic drop was released, way more often any of the recent releases, but i just up and decided to pay for one of the streaming sites at least that way bts get paid too

What’s very disgusting is this payola thing has been around for so long! I remember in high school when I was listening to the radio I always wondered why the same 2-3 songs would be on rotation and THIS is why. And yes, whatever song you anytime thought it was a bop and you couldn't take out of your head... Even if it's intrinsically good, it got to your brain bc radio wanted so. Here in Germany, you never ever hear BTS on the radio... Dynamite yes, was huge, but still nothing compared to other songs. My Universe is on... once per day? twice maybe? whereas other artists get 1000 spins (play 1 song) a week. Just yesterday I was walking with my kids and my ears tuned into something and I stopped in my tracks. My oldest too and we looked at each other bc we swear we heard Left&Right and then off (probably in a car, not radio, bc you know how huge is Charlie Puth? I haven't listened to L&R since it dropped, and yes, I do listen to the radio, I have it on in the kitchen almost all day).

I think the radioplay in my country not as bad as the western. Yes maybe there is still corruption in some point but the radiohost never denied the fans requests. So if someone request BTS or any other artist's song, they will play it fairly. Or maybe because we are an Asian, and KPop songs are as normal as western song in our music industry.
