In this video I have a solution to buying batteries all the time for your hunting trail camera. This is a DIY solar set up that will save you tons of money on batteries through out the years. This set up has allowed me to plug it in and never spend another dime on batteries during the hunting season. It has been a game changer! Why put the AA batteries in there, and why use the external 12V battery? Doesn't the solar panel have a battery pack in it, and this would run your camera?
The solar panel doesn’t have a battery pack in it. The solar panel keeps the 12v battery charged all the time. The AA batteries are in place incase the wire gets disconnected or something malfunctions. The AA batteries are more of a safety net.
@TripleTAcres Gotcha... I was under the impression that they all had an internal battery pack. I still don't get the AA batteries right there at your home. Those rascals are big money. I could understand it if the camera was at a distant location
I agree with you. That’s really why I started using this set up in the first place. AA batteries are definitely expensive. If you noticed though, I just used Amazon basic batteries. The AAs are basically an insurance policy that my camera is going to take a picture if the 12v battery fails and the solar panel fails.
With my cell camera, I don't want to go there anymore. I want my camera to be left scent and human presence free for years if possible.
I agree with you. This has been the solution for me. It is pretty much set it and forget it.
