Having completed an apprenticeship in the British Aircraft industry in the 1960’s, this is a reminder to me of the time Britain had a world leading industry, however destroyed by a Sociaiist government..

English Electric Mk T5 was the world's most amazing aircraft in terms of climb performance, setting world records which haven't been broken since. In 2010 BBC presenter & Professor Brian Cox flew onboard Thunder City's T5 XS-451

I'd like to find out who or where the TC jets were acquired by , the EE Lightnings , Blackburn Buccaneers and the Hawker Hunters and spares inventory...?

That black Buccaneer, along with a few others, have been purchased and the Bucc has completed its first engine run, in hopes of getting it airworthy again

Thunder City was a very special last refuge (hopefully not!) for Cold War super fast aircraft. I nearly went to fly the Lightning..alas, too late. Perhaps a group in the US might be able to receive permission to fly this rocket ship.

It's been confirmed the jets have been purchased by Hangar 51 and they plan on returning them to flight. One of the Buccaneers did an engine run in January

I was planning to go to TC in 2010 to fly in the T5 Lightning, sadly the aircraft crashed in 2009 with a number 2 engine fire, also killing Dave Stock . One of the aircraft I did my apprenticeship on was the Hawker Hunter when I was an aircraft fitter in the RAF. The Lightning and Hunter 2 of my favourite aircraft. The Lightning I would class as the greatest fighter ever built, I always applied to get posted to Binbrook on them sadly I never got the privilege 😢. I did manage a back seat ‘jolly’ in a 2 seat Harrier though, which was fantastic! RIP Dave Stock and Mike Beachy Head.

The T5 lightning is one of the only planes I would like to fly in. live today and worry about tomorrow when it comes. the £££££'s would be worth it.

Company chief Mike Beachy Head sadly died from a heart attack in 2017. A Thunder City EE Lightning crashed in a 2009 air display at SA's Overberg Air Show, killing the pilot, and the subsequent damning official report on TC's maintenance practices contributed to the business becoming unsustainable. A sell-off of (all?) aircraft was carried out. Fires and hydraulic issues had rather dogged the EE Lightning over its RAF service life anyway, resulting in quite a few ejections (if the pilot was lucky).
