- Aerial Footage of Thurcroft
Thurcroft is a village and civil parish situated southeast of Rotherham in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England. From 1902 to 1991, it was a close-knit, mining community. It has a population of 5,296, increasing to 6,900 at the 2011 Census.
The name Thurcroft has Norse (Viking) roots as 'thorr' means thunder in old Norse, so is probably at least a thousand years old. According to A. D. Mills in his Dictionary of English Place-Names, the first mention of Thurcroft is in 1319. Thurscroft: 'Enclosure of a man called Thorir. Old Scandinavian person's name + Old English word Croft.

Again WOW...
I too was born in Thurcroft, at 13 Osbert Drive, Nov 1963,
I certainly enjoyed my early schooling years and the small village feel of a snowy white Christmas . Sadly I've forgotten most of the names of old school friends ,but not their faces or childhood memories shared to the early 1970's.
I now live in Australia 50ks south of Sydney ,I sure love life here in the warm climate with a growing family of 6 children and now 8 grand children ,with more to come .
Although on the rare occasion ,,I have wondered how life
would have been in Thurcroft ,, happily, I have no regrets ,
But I sure am greatful for the sound foundation and upbringing I got starting life in Thurcroft ,, it's because of the substance and guption of that small coal mining village that Im sharp as a tack and have a firm grip with both feet .
Thank you for sharing the video .. brought back many cherished childhood memories.
Much love and respect
to all in Thurcroft

you probably made the right choice, riddled with crime now and youths with no respect of authority
@@jakepizza5518 He definitely made the right choice. Thurcroft is no longer the close knit mining community that he would have enjoyed growing up here.
Wow! This takes me back. I was born and raised at the bottom of School Rd. My sister still lives in Thurcroft with her two daughters and grand-kids. I left village in 1967 and I'm now in the USA. Thanks for the memories!
