Know the place very well. My girlfriend from Thurcroft, called it, Dirtcroft. Great film. I used too live in Laughton Common.

I planted 45 nut tree saplings, chestnut and walnut and cobnut next to the old coal mine, I thought it would also help feed the local village and slightly lessen the need of buying and shipping food, hence reducing carbon footprint and offering a long term sustainable supply of seasonal nuts and increasing the real wealth of an economically deprived area. I intend to go back next year to plant Pear, apple, plum and cherry trees. I think "Community Orchards" are a good idea, but not everywhere does them. Leeds city council support community orchards

That's so weird this video came up on a day when we have amber snow alert! I have a gig at Thurcroft Top Club Friday April 28th ☺️

Hi, Andy, just watched this, and I have to say how much better your videos are now. I like your commentary these days, and found this one quite hard to follow, with great difficulty reading the script. Being colour blind probably doesn't help, and I really struggled with the red against some of the backgrounds. Your practice now of text in a solid block of white or colour is much easier, but, as I say, the commentary is better still. You have come a long way in your presentation. 🙂

    Hello from Australia,
This town has a lot of family history. It was great to see parts of the town as it brought back a lot of good memories.
Keep up the great work. Stay safe.

How old are you? When I was a kid I had a friend that was from Australia, he moved back and I never saw him again

Thurcoft looks good in the snow! As you probably know, the Auction House is in what was once a little cinema, and it has retained the comfy fold-down velvet seating. It was lovely to go the auctions fortnightly on Sundays; then changed to Mondays, but still popular though. The auctioneer would sit in the large rectangular alcove that had once housed the screen.
Every route into Thurcoft is up a hill, not fun on a bike..... The Mineral Line is very very popular - when it gets to the Dinnington end, it is still one mile further to the centre of Dinnington (at St Leonard's Church I think) - the end of the Mineral Line comes out into a Trading/Industrial Estate, so is somewhat hidden. A bit further through the trees at that end leads to Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, so the dogs from there get a good place to be exercised. Despite some degree of light pollution, an evening walk down there will result in quite a few bat encounters! x

It did look good in the snow, not fun to walk around though, although that little breif spell of snow wasn't too bad.
Yeah it's an old cinema! It's lovely inside there, although I guess it would have looked different back in its cinematic days! Paul Beighton, I know him personally. He's a top gent, always well mannered and easy to get on with. When I worked in Thurcroft i used to pick parcels up from there on a regular basis.
And yes, the hills! Thurcroft itself is generally flat, but it is a bit of a pain if you're having to walk or ride in! It was good to see it all again after a few years away!

Hi, I'm afraid to say it's not the Double Barrel. And it is a restaurant and has been for quite some time.

Sorry to say, its not the Double Barrel any longer and hasn't been for some time. It's also not a pub.

I remember it changing hands a while ago. Haven't been physically stood outside the thing for a heck of a long time. Last I knew it was a pub, that shows how long ago that was. I will address that in Part 2.
Croft Steakhouse at The Double Barrel the maps informs me.. There you go haha

It's not bad. Must admit there are some less desirable areas but generally you'll be ok!
