    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Murtaugh (Danny Glover) confronts Riggs (Mel Gibson) about his suicidal tendencies.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    L.A. cop Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson), whose wife has recently died, is a loose cannon with a seeming death wish. This makes him indispensable in collaring dangerous criminals, but a liability to any potential partners. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), a conservative family man who wants to stay alive for his upcoming 50th birthday, is partnered with Riggs. As Riggs gets to know Murtaugh and his family, he begins to mellow, though his insistence on using guerilla tactics to catch criminals is still (put mildly) above and beyond the call of duty. The main villain is The General (Mitchell Ryan), a drug dealer responsible for the death of the daughter of one of Murtaugh's oldest friends. The General is also in charge of a deadly, militia-like gang of smugglers. Adding fuel to the fire is The General's chief henchman, played with all stops out by Gary Busey. Moviegoers familiar only with the relatively tongue-in-cheek Lethal Weapon sequels may be amazed to find out how dangerous and unpredictable Riggs is in the first Lethal Weapon -- and how likely it seems that Murtaugh might not survive until fade-out time.

      It was not that Roger was not sure if Martin was feigning or not and was testing him; Roger was sure Riggs was acting crazy to get a pension, if he had any doubts he would had never provoked that situation among other things because he would be doing the same thing Riggs just did and that made Roger confront him: be blunt and confrontational with a disturbed person which is a danger to himself or others. Part of the horror in his face must be due the realization that he was responsible of things escalating to that point.

      Donner is one of the best.
      However, if you want more like this: This movie, Lethal Weapon 2, Last Action Hero, and the Last Boy Scout were all written by a guy named Shane Black. He has a newer movie called Nice Guys that I think is a perfect detective movie. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Hilarious, heartfelt, violent, suspenseful, it's got it all.
      He also made Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, one of my all-time favorite detective movies, but it's weird and not everyone's cup of tea. Still, it's got a really dark, messed up mystery with his trademark humor.
      His later movies are much more comedic then Lethal Weapon, but he maintains high stakes and amazing dialogue. Not a bad way to spend an evening.

    Watching the first one after having seen all the sequels, I was kinda shocked by Murtaugh's intensity. Here he straight up exploded, not in a comedic grumpy old man way, but just real, pure rage.
    Later when he and his daughter were abducted, his desperate screams were so visceral I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. A lot of serious crime films couldn't reach that level of emotional rawness.

    This was a golden era when films weren't afraid of addressing deep emotions. This scene is as heartbreaking as it is funny. Such a special dynamic - one which paints Americans rather well. They've built up a hellish environment & suffer a great deal, but they somehow keep a sense of humour.

OK that's not a lot compared to an Al Pacino or Robert De Niro or Nicole Kidman, or Samuel L Jackson, but he hasn't had it bad though. And we all know the Globes and Emmy's favored CBS, The WB, and ABC as well as HBO. NBC was like half way. But the Globes only incresed with shitstain Littlefield took over tenure as CEO of NBC and made it CBS.
      UPN and Fox were always the underdog networks of sorts. NBC too depending on the era.
      CBS, The WB and ABC are the white man's networks. And "Friends"-loving. Nothing Warner Bros.ish about The WB. Tribune sucks. Why the "The" before "WB." I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network, no "The" before "WB," no Tribune, no frog, no "dubba," "dubba," "dubba."

      Electricshrock that’s why Murtaugh said your not really trying to draw a psycho pension, you really are crazy. He thought Riggs was putting on a show for how crazy he is but realizes he is certifiably crazy and talks with a shriek later on to discuss Riggs

      Jon Arnall if you count 20-something year old films as "recent" lol

    • @scottknode898
      @scottknode898 Před 6 lety +5

      Bluemgwes he is still acting in movies just not as much but he was one of busiest actors in 1980s and 1990s along with movies in 2000s like Shooter where played a bad guy against Mark Wahlberg in 2007. He is 72 years old now in real life, he has been pretty busy when not working as a philanthropist and humanitarian work he does around the world. He released 7 or 8 movies last year alone and has several he completed for release this year just have to do some research and see what he has been up to. IMDb website and look him show what he is making.

    • @scottknode898
      @scottknode898 Před 6 lety +1

      Jon Arnall Shooter was more recent then that in 2007 with Mark Wahlberg. He has had movies come out like 2017 had 7 or 8 movies released and was on tv shows like Criminal Minds

      Me too. The Color Purple and the Lethal Weapon are my favorite Danny Glover movies. He is a great actor. When I saw The Color Purple as a kid in elementary school Danny Glover was the first actor who was so good that he played a character that made me hate, fear, and pity him in the same movie.

    One of the BEST scenes ever acted by two giants.
    If an actor is truly fortunate, they'll find that ONE role that FOREVER defines them.
    This movie cemented that for BOTH of them.
    GIBSON will always be Riggs. GLOVER will always be Murtaugh!
