In high-end mechanical watchmaking, few things are truly new or original. It’s a category that plays with nostalgia, after all. The majority of the popular brands we cover on HODINKEE got their start decades if not centuries ago, and many of the product lines from those brands date from the last century or earlier. Updates to long-established designs tend to be made incrementally.
So when I encounter a watch like the Octo Finissimo, I sit up and take notice. Sure, Bulgari was founded in 1884, and the Octo range started as part of Bulgari’s erstwhile Gérald Genta line. But there really is nothing that feels quite like a Bulgari Octo Finissimo when you try it on. It’s at once a design object and a highly engineered piece of machinery. And to be honest, I can’t think of a product that has done more to advance Bulgari’s status as a contender in the high-end watch space. The Serpenti may be a super cool thing and an icon in its own right in the ladies’ watch arena, but when I think of Bulgari watchmaking, it’s the Octo Finissimo that comes to mind. I’m willing to bet that’s the case for a lot people reading. This record-breaking take on the chunkier Octo has the capacity to excite wildly different segments of consumers, from design devotees, to luxury lovers, to the horophiles.
Beautiful watch and a true piece of art on the wrist. Love this timepiece. Couple things that I liked about the case and finish is that it has different hues with the amount of light that it gets. Super cool watch. Architectually, this is a masterpiece and I'd love to have one.
Future classic..? Feels like it. Nice to see something that's not vintage inspired or a "re-issue." Good for Bulgari. I'll be keeping an eye out for what this does on the secondhand market for sure.
The best week on wrist video so far by Hodinkee 😁
Now that I've stopped laughing at the comments on depreciation may I say this is absolutely stunning, just beautiful in every regard.
That watch is truly a thing of beauty!
More of these episodes please HODINKEE
A great looking watch and have made an appointment to try one one on, but my main concern is while it is a cool watch and great tech would i actually wear it and get proper use out of it?
The ticking intro is back! Yes!!!
Well one angle missing: this is simply a beautiful and unique watch, people who appreciate that will check it
Really beautiful timepiece
Absolutely stunning. Looks futuristic yet it has a classic mechanical movement in it.
This watch is not for an old man , this is for young gentleman watch.
...old man at heart.
Not sure how robust it is tho. Auto chronos are delicate at the best of time, and the thinnest one in the world probably isn't gonna take a knock as well as your average 7750
Admirable piece.
What an exquisite blend of dress & sport. Masculine. Elegant modern
How is the winding done as the power reserve is not working on mine seems to stop after taking it off for half hour
Super cool watch
awesome watch
One of my favourite watches, however, I only really ultimately love the one in green -- the ones that were sold in UK's Harrods store for a limited time only and were only limited to a total of TEN.
how much were they?
@@shaunpearson7905 They were like £10,000
See you in the second hand dealers in five years guys
Yasha V expect it to be less than 5 years😂
in 3 it'll be like 5k
Victor Saez I would be a buyer at 5k
More like 10 months !
@@gyang333 I never said I wouldn't, I like it.
I think this is a fantastic watch. Having seen other versions with this sandblasted case and bracelet finish it really stands out and yet at the same time is subtle if that makes any sense!
Personally, as much as I like the Daytona if I had to choose between the two this would be my choice
Anyone can own a Daytona. Boooooring.
Good point looks like everyone owns daytona haha but not this Bulgari
i think the thinness does remove some of the character and lines of this watch, I think the regular octo chronograph (with the thicker el primero movement) has a more interesting looking case
Seeing the thumb nail i thought it's a pretty bulky watch. I'm speechless now.
Nice time piece!
These are going to be excellent value on the secondhand market in a few years.
It’s very nice but I still don’t get how the GMT function works!
what a beauty
Watches were less expensive before Hodinkee.
What a fascinating offering from Bulgari
Bravo, Bulgari!!. Thinniest chronograph!!
Winner - GPGH 2019 Chronograph Watch Prize!
Watch almost looks like it has an e-ink display.
Super cool and stealth. This watch is a keeper.
On the wrist it feels ultra-light and luxuriously comfortable. As a stealth piece, it is a step below a Ti RM4 but at $13,300 discounted retail it is less than 1/10th the cost. And, while no flyback (which is wholly illegible on the RM), the Bulgari movement is both in-house and more advanced in its minimalist dimensions. A break-through in chrono movements.
The brushed Ti skin exhibits a deep, unique-grey color that works brilliantly with both casual and dress attire.
The sub-dials are easily legible. The pushers for the chrono are crisp and the actions precise. The jumping minute hand is spot-on. The GMT function is, in technical terms, "totally cool"; its pusher is buttery smooth.
This is the watch for the guy who enjoys an ultra light-weight watch, and/or has owned a Daytona, Datograph, or AP and now wants a unique, sophisticated piece that is different. Said differently, this is a 911 in a world of BMW 5 Series and Benz SL's.
AMAZING SUPER PRICE!
a peripheral rotor, that's new to me. Very cool.
Good short review but I was always led to believe you shouldn't adjust a watch crown whilst on the wrist.
That case looks harder to clean than the Vacheron Overseas. Lots of nooks and edges to catch dirt.
Lovely Genta design watch, I think I prefer the non chronograph version... but I do like the GMT function
It's a great achievement. Kudos to Bulgari.
Absolutely lovely watch as well as very practical.
Jude Perera how so? Poor water resistance and a chrono that cant jump minutes.
Most high end thin or ultra thin watches always have poor WR. So being ultra thin and with this WR is fantastic.
awesome watch - but that crown looks lost
Freaking dream watch. More realistic dream watch is maybe a gs some day
...is it titanium?
Yes
Yes.

Value proposition ya ok
Value proposition? Give me a break.
Ok have a kitkat
Ali Alexander ,
Go for the finissimo - if you like it
Just wait for the value to drop and pick it up for half price in couple of years second hand
Ali Alexander ,
Sometimes life’s tough.
Believe me, if bulgari weren’t cool with the value issue, they’d do something about it. They could support costumers and second hand dealers.
At this moment, they behave just as any fashion brand - so the crap is well deserved.
And I am very surprised how well the finissimo is holding value.
Usually bulgari is value suicide
Tried on the three hander version. Love the watch head, dislike the bracelet, which is too flimsy and uninteresting.
Hodinkee, the best dependent watchblog there is...
Love the look but the colour is a little too dull and it kills the whole package
Darker dial could have made it stand out a bit more. Whole thing looks like it was 3D printed.
Joshua Hamilton Totally Agreed
Why are people complaining that there are no criticism recently? I bet 99.9% of people aren't event considering buying these watches anyways. Why can't you just enjoy the HQ video of watches. If you want to know what "you" don't like about the watch, go to the Bvlgari boutique and check it out yourselves.
17,600????
Dust specks visible in every movement macro shot, and prominent burrs at 1:36.
The dust is on the display caseback, not on the movement
I have $200 to get a first watch, what should I get?
A seiko.
A swatch
seiko 5
Seiko, Orient.
seiko skx007
Fredericos long lost brother?
The level of finishing on the movement, the architecture and the thin profile make this very impressive. I prefer the steel versions with 100m WR but they are an awesome watch, and a *great* value preowned.
No surprise it is well made, Bulgari bought the old Gerald Genta(company not the man)/Daniel Roth manufacturer to form this higher segment of their watch offerings.
I noticed some imperfections on the minute hand, is the finishing quality of Bulgari in general below par?
have you ever see this watch in real?
tried these models on and unfortunately they feel really light and easy to break on wrist, Id never pick one up, but I can see if someone has a complete collection and then decides on this , obviously it wont hold value and be extremely hard to sell :-)
ITS REALLY CHEAP. ONLY IN PRICE. TREMENTUS VALUE.
Jon, did you lose weight? You look great!
40mm wears more like a 42mm. this would be a hit if offered in a smaller diameter.
38mm would wear more like a 40mm, a much easier transition for most rolex owners.
It’s a crappy chrono. It doesn’t have jumping minute timer.
Christian M would be challenge to make the movement ultra thin as well as narrow i think
Agreed! Tried this on and it was huge!
@@BobbyDazzler888 Yes it does. And it is precise.
Your Rolex or Omega only match to the Mercedes Benz and BMW... But this one ideal for Lamborghini... 😊
I really don’t like the look of the watch although I realize it took a lot of technical expertise to build it to these specs. For the money, I’d much prefer a Girard Perregaux Laureato, a VC Overseas or a 904L Daytona. But hey...call me old fashioned....
David I don't think that's old fashion. Spending your money wisely. I'd do the same
You can't get a VC Oversea or Daytona at retail prices, and you can find this watch at 25% off second hand so it's bad comparison
Exactly
I surmise the watch will wear too big for the majority. Please offer a smaller version 39 or 40mm
I really just need to stop watching watch videos 🤦♂️
This watch looks like A*************************ss
Gorgeous watch, overpriced considering this will likely not appreciate in value.
More realistic price would be under 12k. But hey they gotta do what they gotta do.
Not for me. Looks like something you would win at a travelling fare
Meh.
The fitting of the lugs seems like something sraight out of a 200 dollar watch, thats a big run off.
Too tight on your wrist. Looks uncomfortable and ugly.
It looks cheap.
Yeah, it doesn't look like a $17,600 watch...
Think I’d rather buy a Seiko, Orient or Vostok and use the rest of the money to travel the world for a few months.
@@Ryan-jr2cv good thinking
Ugly as hell, sorry.
And than that price 17.800 us$. What were they thinking?
A fitting price for a chronograph gmt tho. What were you expecting ?
Ton Pac. go ahead and get it then. I will have a de ent JLC for that price instead
Cedar Canoe never said I like it, even less buy it. There is a lot of better buys for almost 20k, but the thinnest automatic watch with a chronograph and a gmt quickset in titanium is far from overpriced at this point. I mean ap offshore runs for at least that, with no gmt quickset and almost a thousand generic color changes, yet nobody bitch about it.
That watch in a word is Yuk.
To bad a $20 dollar digital keeps better time...
Ugly overpriced watch.
@Ali Alexander It's ugly. I don''t care about it being the thinnes chronograph, gmt and microtor. A GMT function and microtor aint nothing special. Also Bulgari is a shitty brand.
Absolutely hideous from all angels.
royal oak ripoff
not at all
Maybe not, but definitely a wanna be wanting to "cash in" on the trend......
It's effectively from the same designer, the late Gerald Genta, he of PP Nautilus fame too.
Not at all.
@@phillyskate16 it's for people who want the royal oak, but don't have the means to afford its price
