Yes, we know the mouse is a little different, but it's the only one that survived our coolant exposure tests. That said, welcome to the Tormach family; we can't wait to see what you and your team do with your new 1100MX Mill!
Regarding on-site installations, we have rebooted that service offering, but it is currently only available to customers in the US due to COVID travel challenges. However, we do offer pre-assembly services regardless of location, so maybe if you get another machine we can ship it out to you either with accessories pre-installed (ATC, etc.) or even fully assembled, but then Colin would miss out on all the fun of doing it himself. PS - Linus, safety glasses are your friend!
Do you plan to have European distributor any time soon? Like by 2025 ? Would love it.
Linus probably won't be happy until you offer RGB mice.
without a bit of chineseium, it wouldnt be an AvE video....err, am i in the right place?
LINUS???? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE????
You guys do know that this man wear sock with his sandals so safety with Linus in a warehouse full of machinery is about like telling a kid to stop jumping on the bed.
I've never expected you had a company profile.
I've never either had experiences with your machines, but I see that all of your machines are really well made, so, love you.

I think a normal install with concrete anchors, three phase wired in from transformer, cooling system, and networking with a mezzanine from pallet is a week including test pieces. If Linus is so excited you could have him do field service for the Northwest on your CNC machines.
Actually a tormach it's around 30k

Ah! Never EVER slide your hands across milled aluminum. The edges are SUPER sharp! On the plus side, this will make heat sinks much better than a hacksaw can :)

What's hard about putting some G-code into a computer and pressing start?
At the risk of being "that guy", kudos for what looked like steel toed shoes when operating the forklift. However, be sure to wear eye protection (goggles - thanks @DETERNET) when using compressed air to blow off, well...anything. The trip to the ER to get the little metal shaving out is never fun (nor is the workers comp claim!). Other than that, awesome vid. Love the channel.
Especially with how up tight Linus' HR people seem to be about injurys
I can attest to this. Once had a tiny metal shaving fly into my eye when I was grinding. Thankfully no damage was done but ya getting it out was not fun.
@@outsideredge same here, one of the most painful things I've experienced
Use safety goggles not glasses, I managed to get a tiny shard in my eye while using a face shield and safety glasses, still no idea how it happened
I second this. Worked as a cleaner in a factory specializing in transport augers for a couple of years, and yeah, hadn't it been for protection I would've probably lost an eye (which actually happened to my boss many years prior to me working there. He had to get a glass eye)

He will just sponsor his own. Videos
I honestly think 40k is a fairly low price for something like this. It's an insane piece of engineering.
It's also bare minimum for a "production" machine. They are fantastic for the price but check out prices on HAAS. I bought near enough to this mil to go alongside my Bridgeport without the 4 axis for my home shop and couldn't be happier but if you want half a thou tolerances and high speed milling you gotta drop big boy bank
Der8auer just bought a German one for 125,000€ 😂😂 around 150,000$ 😂🤣😂
Especially when you consider all those $20k PC builds.
Oh definitely. If you compare it to the router, which already costs 10 grand... The new mill is ballin'. Much better value imo.
@@mannyfreeze8821 oh man. But that one is a little different - it's working area is much bigger in the X and Y direction, but it's less versatile in the Z axis. Also, there's no 4th axis. And it's German. That alone makes it 2x as expensive😂

Aerospace tooling???? Whaaaaa that's so cool
lol same. I doing aerospace stuff down to +/- half a thou on super old romi lathes and a fadal mill, the tormach they have would’ve made my job much much easier.
But what kind of aerospace parts and tools are you guys making? Because "aerospace parts" is quite a broad term, from riveting hammers to turbine blades. So I'm kinda curious.
----
One little note: an old machine is not necessarily a bad machine. It's wayyy easier to get your tolerances with an old reputable-branded machine, then on an affordable new machine. (if well maintained)
New cast iron has internal stresses, if the factory didn't get rid of them enough, then your bed will warp because of use and vibrations. If your mill is old, then time has gotten rid of the internal stresses, and it will be just as straight as is was during the last overhaul. If your mill is expensive, then they have gotten rid of internal stresses at the factory.
@@AdrianCupHolder i can guarantee you it wouldn't.... lol... most problematic set of machines i've ever used was a brand new pair of tormachs and it was the reason i left my last job.

The fact is, you can make very precise parts on old machines with old tools and so on but sometimes I wished so hard they would buy me a tool that would make my life so much less stressful. A vise that would be actually very precise from the start and not needed to be modified to suit my needs.

Man watching you talk about the software that it runs on seems like space age compared to when I used to have to use FANUC controls and program everything by hand. You guys get all the sweet toys!
i love how linus sees the tech inside an everyday industrial cabiniet and is blown away haha.
Great review here in the USA we just bought one for our HS classroom. We teach our Engineering students how to use 3D printers, Laser Engravers, Milling Machines and many other useful pieces of equipment. However the one thing we can not do is have our kids build computers because their is no warranty... crazy the way education works.
Title: "The longest unboxing we've ever done."
Me who looks at the length of the video: 😒
This mostly refers to how we had to halt assembling the machine because we found out we were missing an entire pallet worth of accessories like the PC console, toolchanger, etc. It was sitting on a shipping dock in Washington state, was found and then once we got it we could finish the assembly. -CW

Who's CW? We want LS
@@epicc8801 who is CW and LS?
saunders makes good subplates, same guy from NYC CNC, I bought 2 for the VF4 at work, they are super clutch for keeping setups fast.
$40k actually sounds reasonable for a professional machine. It’s a lot of money but even a lay person like myself can see the value.
That's not a professional machine though, Tormach's really are just glorified toys. They are okay for your garage but you could never compete against someone with an actual professional machine that's a few years old and only costs a few thousand more.
Pricepoint is out to lunch on them. Honestly they're not as capable or rigid as 20 year old 6030s in our area. One of Linus' neighbours is selling two Mazak 6030s from 2000 for $15000 each. Brand new VF2/VF3s from HAAS are similarly priced and financed.
LOL professional machine ??
@@joshmdmd I'm guessing that tormach was $40k indexer, work holding, tool holders inclusive. A $15k vf2 probably has clapped out angular contact bearings, was running on 20 year old coolant and has a fubar tslot table with gouges
As a machinist I really enjoy this content and I'm really glad Linus hired someone that knows what they are doing unlike when Luke used to do most of the shop stuff. lol
Same here. Loved watching Linus geek out on a baby version of a machine I use daily.
In fairness Luke might be better on cnc too. I'm a cnc machinist, and would look completely incompetent trying to run a bridgeport...
@@spudglynz I was speaking more in reference to the fact he doesn’t understand proper feeds and speeds when it came to milling stuff on the CNC router. There are pretty good guidelines to go by for spindle and feed speeds rather than just saying “sure that should be good” and rolling with it.
@@troygamblin929 The problem with everyone at LTT, is for some reason, instead of taking time to research shit, they just wing it. Even though they live on CZcams.
Every time I try to learn something new, I watch at least a few hours worth of YT videos and do webpage research as well.
@@troygamblin929 That's fair. It's been a while since I've seen a video of him in the machine shop, so it's probably worse than I remember. :P
Colin looks like he would be just as comfortable making cheese on a Amish farm as being a tech master.
He does that as a hobby...
That really does mean we need to see the Linus Team in the kitchen!! A charity bake-off though what they give away would be completed builds but yea be a lot of fun watching them go full LMG COOK OFF.
Having only operated Haas machines in my life it's amazing that looking at another machine can make me feel like a kid again and so in awe.
I used to work for a company that was throwing out money in buckets, because they categorically refused to get machines for prototyping. Happy to see time and time again, that Linus knows how these investments (and/or sponsorships) MAKE you money.

Linus: unboxing Tormach CNC
Stuffmadehere: Ahhh... a man of culture
lol as if he wasnt the one who signed off on the idea after alex said hey let buy this...
Suffmadehere would of preferred a HAAS machine but the space didn’t allow it.
Hacksmith is partnered with them
Yeah! My father is a VMC programmer and operator for 21 years and whenever I look him starting machine, it just looks like he's preparing a fighter jet for sorties!
I would love to see more CNC stuff from you. Many channels talk about it from the mechanical side but few talk about the electronics involved. The industry could use more focus on the electronics. It’s odd when home 3D printing nerds are doing more to push the tech than the big production shops but that’s the work we live in.
2:10 you can hear Linus in the background going "woah!"
14:05 Linus, please always wear wrap-around eye protection when using compressed air to blow chips away. It's so easy to forget about or get complacent, but having a metal chip or coolant in the eyes was the most common injury when I was a CNC Operator. I've had this happen to me, and so did every coworker.
This is why an eyewash station is a critical investment when looking to safely operate a CNC machine without petty hospital visits. Even safety glasses with face shields don't offer perfect protection, so the need to use an eyewash station will likely only be a matter of time.
I do aerospace machining with cnc mills, lathes, and grinders. Depending on part, mainly on grinders, we have to work with very tight tolerances. Many times have to be with in .0002 to .0005 of an inch.
4:46 as I see the nice saunders fixture plate flying in so gracely :smirk:
Savage apron spotting 🙌 so happy to see these out in the wild, love Adam's work

"Well... *interrupted by jumpcut*
They can be from $100-$600 Its not that "expensive"
@@popegramzz479 you gotta consider thst those tools have to be replaced fairly often.

You know I like crapping on LMG fumbling their way through the manufacturing and mechanical engineering of stuff, but it is nice to see you guys continue to grow and make improvements. The machining community is very helpful and will always help.
i dont even understand anything but im literally just in awe as to realize the sheer scale of the LMG at this time to have such a big and expensive equipment. their company is big BIG huh
That equipment doesn't really say a lot about how big LMG is. Sure, 40 grand sounds a lot, but that's a lot less than basically any single one of their employees cost them per year.
@@thedomham2831 now that you mention that, im not exactly aware how many employees they have now. but i guess they really are big big bIG. its just such a wild thing for me considering where they started on this platform
@@mzshmkn I believe he's said recently it's about 50 employees?
@@mzshmkn they're 43 people, including Linus and Yvonne, according to their webpage.
With this machine, they can do heatsinks, toolless screws, custom IHS, custom case parts, display stands, camera/light jigs, etc, etc.. Basically something that can cut metal very precisely.
