  • While the Monkees may have first been kno wn as a music-driven television comedy which won two emmys in 1976, no one could have possibly foresaw the impact this Monkee Momentum had. The Last Train to Clarksville was about to depart, and America wanted to go along for the ride. Consisting of former child stars Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones, and throwing in the musically gifted Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith, these four teen idols did something no one was expecting. They flat out competed with the best bands in the best era, taking on the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and becoming synonymous with 1960’s Music forever. They flat out made believers out of all of us.
I’m your host Nostalgic Nick and today we’re taking a deeper look at the pop-rock sensation, the Monkees. Be sure to give this week's episode a thumbs up, and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel so never miss a memory.

Oh yes I love the Monkees! Davy was my favorite one. I had a picture of Davy on my wall at home. Although I do like Mickey, Peter& Mike. I love the TV show! 12/11/21 Mike Nesmith has just passed away. It is sad that Mickey is them only one left of the Band. It is good that Mickey and Mike got some time on stage together before Mike passed.

I've been listening to many of their songs over the last few days...reminiscing about much younger days. "More of the Monkees" was the first album my sister and I ever bought. They had some fantastic songs. Of course there are the hits and favourites, but I've just discovered gems like Shades of Grey, What am I Doing Hanging Round, You Bring the Summer and a beautiful Christmas ballad Riu Chiu. Davy was my crush, my younger sister's was Micky....he really did have a wonderful voice. The harmonies were superb.

I remember being a child in the 60s and going to the hairdresser one Saturday morning. The lady, who was a good friend of my mother's, kept running back to watch TV because the Monkees were on. I was about 8 at the time and I thought only us kids watched that show. When the lady started washing my hair, that is when she told me that she absolutely loved the Monkees. She had to be about 40 at the time. 😊

I, too, saw their 1986 anniversary concert when they were in Philly. They were as "spot on" both vocally and musically as they were back in the 1960's, and that show was amazing. It was quite a nostalgic, wonderful moment for me, as I had always wanted to see them live. Even though I was crazy about them back in the 60's, and wanted desperately to go to their concert when they played at the old Civic Center in Philly back then, my parents said I was too young (I was 10), but my cousin (who was 11) got to go, and I was heartbroken. Mike was my favorite then and when he formed The First National Band, some really beautiful songs, especially Joanne. I have both The Monkees and the First National Band recordings. He was so very talented. It wasn't just an "earlier version of MTV", he is considered the father of MTV. Too bad that MTV was destroyed, just so people could make more money with garbage "reality shows". A true innovation! I'm 26 years older than my daughter and we were both fans. We were talking about it just yesterday.

FANTASTIC PRODUCTION! You clearly put a lot of effort into this - very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving my fond memories of "The Monkees" from my childhood in the 60s, and learning more about each member, and the history overall. Thx.

This whole label of "the pre-Fab Four" is obviously wrong! Like Bob Dylan, they were heavily into putting together bands and performing even as kids, and all were seasoned actors/musicians brought together by a single magnet (TV STARDOM!!). But then they had a slew of hits, and no one stood behind them working them like ventriloquist's dummies. They did it themselves. Not bad for a band that was "thrown together".

I couldn't pick a favorite Monkee. There was something about each and everyone of them I admired greatly. I am 67 now and will remember setting in front of the TV on Saturday mornings with my model Monkee Mobile, my Monkee lunch box, my Monkee bubble gum card collection and my collection of magazines that had articles about the Monkees. Some sincerely fond memories of that time, but funny how I can't remember what I did yesterday or where I put the car keys last night. Love the Monkees always!!! RIP Davey and Peter!!!

I remember the mini-trail ride scene and ended up with a China clone of it. I was riding on the street one day and a guy pulled me over and told me it reminded him of Dumb and Dumber! We all evolve into Monkees I guess. 😐
