    One of the most genuine bands ever!!! They were so talented and also so naturally funny 😀

    • @Veekator
      @Veekator Před 2 lety

      Genuine? No..they were 4 young men hired as actors for a TV show that eventually became a band. All their hits were because of Don Kirshner. I used to watch them as a kid. They were a spoof of the Beatles. One song to youtube was Mike Nesmiths you just may be the one. They opened once for Jimi Hendrix and got booed..
      Its so sad that only Mickey is left..Rip Davey, Peter and Mike.. Did you also know that David Bowie changed his last name from Jones to never be confused with Davey Jones?..

      @@Veekator Thank you for taking time to clarify their story. I did know that David Bowie changed his name from Jones, however, I didn't know the full reason as to why. And your explanation does make sense. I also grew up with the music of the Monkeys and the Beatles. Yet, I never fully knew the full extent of their back story. You are a star for clarifying this.
      I wish you and yours a blessed and prosperous New Year 🎉

      @@Veekator So they were hired. That doesn't mean they were not genuine. They were an awesome band. You can't even spell their names correctly and you are an expert on the Monkees. It's Davy and Micky. And Don Kirshner was not the reason for their hits. It was Carole King, Boyce and Hart, Neal Diamond, and Mike Nesmith. Don Kirshner was an idiot who was eventually fired for his stupid decisions. You might want to do some research before commenting.

      @ladybug160 Před rokem +2

      @@rocknroll1 I would usually let this ride. However, since you made your point about how " clueless" some people may be due to a slight misspelling of a person's name - just thought I would mention it is Neil and not Neal Diamond 😂😂

    They was a manufactured band,that turned out to be the most exciting show for the teenagers, we didn't care how they got together just that they did & it was a success, we rushed home from school to watch it ,like our older sisters did when the Micky Mouse came on. In the end they were better liked in the US than the Beatles.

      I was born and raised in America and I remember where I was and where I was standing when the Beatles first debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show when I was 5 years old .
      And I had older siblings and we always had great music in our house everything from classical the Jazz to big band to the best of pop music to underground music Beatles stones traffic king crimson right up into the mid and late '70s and Punk and New Wave and metal and on and on and on .
      Even though we loved the monkeys you cannot possibly say they were loved more than the Beatles .
      Perhaps for you and your friends but not where I grew up , not in the Philadelphia area .

      THE MONKEES WERE LOVED WAY MORE THAN THE BEATLES, who were ugly and not gorgeous like the Monkees- Michael Nesmith is brilliant way above the Beatles by ions... he even wrote me a letter when he was a super busy as a produucer of films and video in 1986 and I treasure it to this day- how many letter did the Beatles write to their fans? I remember seeing a clip in black and white of girls burning Beatles albums because they said they didn't even look at them at all. The Monkees out sold the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane COMBINED in 1966 and 1967 !!!! @@gardensofthegods ,

      The Monkees recorded and performed for about five decades, so I wonder what chance it was you suggest they didn't have. The production company originally wanted to cash in on the popularity of A Hard Days Night, but there was never a claim that the guys were emulating the Beatles' sound. Except for Davy Jones, their sound was distinctly American. Both musical groups hold great value in music history.
